  1. To let you know how the issue I described was resolved--the transmission valve body was replaced with a 3rd party re-manufactured one, and changed out by a local mechanic. No issues for several months now. Wife uses it for about 400 miles/week.

Really?! How much did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking... I'm in California, would you happen to be out here as well? haha Doesn't hurt to ask. This just sucks because I LOVE my car and this is literally the ONLY downfall to this dang car. I wish I had my manual tranny like I am used to, then it would just be clutch issues, so less worrisome for me.

  2. I was lucky enough to get my CVT fluid changed due to the fact that the Valve Body had a solenoid failure. The fluid change plus the valve body replacement ran me $1800. Still paying that POS off.

So they did the valve solenoid and the fluid switch for 1800? I guess that beats the entire tranny.

I don't understand why it's just a TSB and not a recall though. They are aware of the situation and the faulty valve so.... wtffff

  3. I just hit 90 k and I honestly don't trust the whole "lifetime" fluid thing. I did a drain and fill on mine, that fluid was DIRTY. It helped a little on the lag and the kind of bogging feel the tranny has been giving me, but it still does it and is now seeming to get worse. I LOVE the car, but I cannot lie it's scary. I don't have the 4-7k to replace the CVT in this dang thing if something happens.

The only thing I can notice is the bogging feeling, it's kind of like the feeling when you drive a manual and you let the clutch out early without enough gas. That sort of bounce . It's mainly at slower speeds like in traffic.

My fingers are crossed. I read that the earlier generations of theCVT have an issue with one of the valves inside the CVT sticking and causing the exact issue I am having, but it's not a recall -_- #Irritating. They are aware of the issue, but are not going to fix the ones that are experiencing the problem? grrrr/ lol

  4. Hey guys,

I have an n/a 2.5i 5th gen (2010). I REALLY want to lower her a little. I actually lowered my prius using just the coil springs from tanabe and I loved the difference. It looked 100x better handled 1000x better and dropped it about 1.5 inches.

I just got 18's and I am hating the wheel gap haha, Car handles so much better now with the bigger wheel, but I want more.

I see the Tein SKS92-AUB00 which are for the 2010 LGT, but it doesn't mention anything about the 2.5i .

Just wanted to clarify if these would fit on my 2.5i BEFORE I spend my money and get pissed because they don't fit :p

Please help me out ! Also, if they do and anyone has any for sale PM me! :) haha

  5. I assume you mean the torque converter needs to be replaced:

I did get subaru to pay a portion.

call them prior to the work being done. 1-800-subaru 3

“Service Bulletin # 16-90-13 Design Change to Lock-Up Type Torque Converter Torque Converter Bulletin Description: This bulletin announces the availability of a countermeasure torque converter assembly to address a customer concern of very low engine RPM when coming to a stop. The condition is similar to coming to a stop in a manual transmission equipped vehicle without depressing the clutch pedal. Thrust washer wear inside the torque converter torque converter can cause restriction of the oil passage used to bleed off lock-up clutch application pressure. The result is either a delayed (momentary low engine rpm) or no lock-up pressure release. The thrust washer has been changed from a solid bushing-type to a needle bearing type.”

Hey I just read this and I am wondering if that is maybe my issue... My car stutters especially in traffic. It's like a early clutch release on a manual transmission, that jerk feeling... I read something about a valve issue for people with similar symptoms. Is there a sure way to tell? Also, how much did that service cost you? (The one the dealer paid half of)

  6. One thing I have noticed three separate times in the Legacy is the throttle drops down just after coming to a stop. So if I'm coming down the road pretty quick and come to a quick stop, and after being stopped for a couple of seconds the RPMs drop from a bit over 500 to a bit below 500 and I feel a bit of vibration. This is completely random and I have been unable to reproduce unfortunately.

Now I've read of something similar to other users on this forum (and in this thread). Is this the CVT? Or is this possibly a vacuum issue? Or is this the TC locking up on downshift?

    Your NOT alone man! SMFH

  7. Hey, for those doing UOAs, I would love to send some $ your way via PayPal or whatever (bitcoin?). This might be a worthy and noble contribution from others in the community so that we encourage more UOAs, that we ultimately start seeing some trends.

What does everyone else think? Would this be worth setting up as a separate conversation so that it's more visible, for those going to the dealer to do a drain/fill? While they are at it maybe this will go towards encouraging them to take a sample.

Any news if people are going to do this? I am interested at least this is some cold hard proof for Subaru to look at and possibly help us all that invested all this money in the cars!

To me if you say a maintenance free CVT, why am I gonna pay a dealer 200$ to do a drain n fill isn't that kind of going against what they advertise???:spin:

  8. Definitely get the stumble issue when coming to a stop 20-5 mph. And same when cruising in stop and go traffic. Just how CVTs are, they kind of get caught off guard sometimes. But above 25mph or so it's smooth as butter.

Yeah I have a little bit of everything on here damnnnn  I bought Subaru because the "Quality" but there version of quality on this stupid CVT is well BAD quality... They say you don't have to maintain, the fluid lasts the lifetime blah blah blah....

DONT BELIEVE IT! service that damn CVT just as you would an AT

I LOVE my suby, but it made me nervous with all those issues...

Stuttering is one thing and I thought it may have been the alternator or battery as was mentioned UNTIL I read the posts here

I get a CLUNK when breaking semi hard such as in traffic.

I also get a jerk with the clunk and the jerking comes out VERY bad when I use my AC and in lower speed 25-5 mph stops etc... smh COME ONE SUBARU! Get it together! Send out a recall and fix the valves or whatever the hell is wrong with all these CVT!!!

  9. 2010 legacy CVt with 67K on the car... I have experienced a jerking motion in traffic, at slow speeds, and when I accelerate I certain way... Honestly, I am SCARED sh#$less because this is my first financed car and I have no CLUE about CVT systems... In all my experience with cars and auto trannys these signs are a clue for a failing tranny.

Any experience with these symptoms? Also any guides on how to do a drain and fill on our CVT trannys?????

  10. I am looking to get the "Boxer Rumble" on my 2010 legacy na... I have seen posts mentioning that the 08-10 WRX cat back will bolt right into my car is that true??? I dont wanna go and buy that and come to find out I have to modify a lot....

I recently removed the stock muffler and left the straight pipe, it sounds nice, but I know a dual exhaust set up with muffler would be more efficient and probably sound better...

Any one else on this 5th gen na boat with me? I would love to see what ideas you have to mod these babies!
