Just wondering if anyone has a working copy of the DVD they’d be willing to send me? I’ve tried burning multiple DVDs and still nothing. I’d be willing to pay for it and the shipping. The only thought I have in my mind is I wonder if the problem isn’t the DVD I made but a problem with the DVD drive the nav unit uses. But no real way to know for sure.
Please pm me if you’re able to help. Thanks.

So I got a Nav unit from a friend and installed it in my Legacy 2.5i.
Using the images for v8 and v12 of the maps I created DVDs with ImgBurn and DVD+R DL discs. But I am still getting the No DVD Please insert map DVD message on the screen.
Any ideas or clues? Thanks in advance.

Decided a couple months back to upgrade my maps to v12 without checking this thread. As a result, I have two fresh images (East/West) ripped from the discs I purchased. DM me if you need the maps.

2011 Subaru Legacy 180k km
2.5i CVT
Recently I’ve noticed when I start the vehicle the airbag light stays on and also beeps while driving. If I turn off the vehicle and then it back on the abs light goes off and no more beeping. I haven’t had a chance to pull codes or look into it, but curious if anyone else experienced this issue?

After 12 months of hearing a squeeling noise on startup I got the courage on Friday night to take it out and regrease the bendix. I also decided to go the extra mile and open it up to clean and regrease the pinion gears. Put it all back together and installed it back in the engine.
It started up like brand new.
If it starts squeeling again I will most likely just bite the bullet and purchase a reman one. For now it's back to sounding nice and quiet.

I was at a loss until I decided to run FreeSSM while driving. I noticed that this time a new code came up that I haven't seen before, P0014. The code read as "Exhaust Active Valve Contol System (AVCS) System 1 (Range/Performance)".
Without highjacking this thread ...
I was wondering what kind of cable you use to connect to your Legacy? I'd like to do some diagnostics on the engine and am wondering what kind of cable to buy. Possibly from ebay. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Zero risk, you should feel comfortable getting both done.
There is no down-side because its the same core code, just an updated configuration.
The car will basically run the same, if anything better. I've not seen a case where a factory ECM/TCM reflash made the car run worse or start to exhibit some mechanical or electronic-induced issue.
Good to know. I'll have to see if the dealership here in my area has the updated configuration for the TCU/ECM.

I haven't done the update, but have been wondering if I should or shouldn't? It is in my mind a risk

Just did this on my brothers 2010 Legacy. Pretty straight forward with the instructions in the post. Took about 30 minutes and $2.50 for a pair of quick links from Home Depot.

Does it feel different than the original did at 33k miles?
The previous owner had the CVT replaced under warranty. This is my first Subaru, and it feels fine so far. I've test driven other Subaru Legacys and this sounds the same as those ones. So I am going to have to assume it feels normal.
-
The Legacy I have had it's CVT replaced at 51k miles. The replaced CVT now has 33k miles on it and so far feels fine.

Good luck. Hopefully it all works out.

That thought crossed my mind, but how would Valvoline get the engine oil into the transmission?
I will get the fluid tested and let you know.
I would get whoever gives you the oil sample to also drain all the fluid out of the transmission. The reason I ask, is that even if Valvoline didn't put engine oil in the transmission they may have accidentally drained all or a good amount of fluid out accidentally. The tech at Valvoline may have drained the tranny fluid by accident thinking it was the engine fluid. But just a thought ... not pointing fingers at anyone in any way.
-
I don't have proof that anyone is at fault, unfortunately. After reading several issues people had with accidentally draining CVT fluid instead of engine oil because of the plug confusion, I realized that I had Valvoline change my oil earlier that day that my transmission died. Perhaps just coincidental?
Another thing that bothered me is that Subaru asked me why I changed the tranny fluid. They said it shouldn't be serviced until 105,000.
Send the fluid that is in the tranny case to get tested. If it's engine oil then Valvoline owes you a tranny.

Hi Folks,
My wife drives a 2010 with 189,600mi, I'm trying to best help her with a problem. It has for me once, when driving it after she said it had a problem, felt like it was trying to be in two gears at once. This is the "6 speed" CVT with manual shift paddles, so <i>that's</i> not happening.
Wow! 189k miles is pretty good on this car ... let alone the CVT.
I would definitely go the route of a fluid change - definitely cheaper than replacing the tranny. I'm impressed to see the CVT go with that kind of mileage - pretty impressing to me.

Did you keep the BRZ tires (215/45 R17) or are those the 17s that the Legacy uses; 215/50 R17?
I bought the rims separately and paired them with a set of michelin premiers. The tires are 215/50/17.

I think I am starting to get the very early stages of this torque converter issue at 54,000 miles.
I am looking to bring my car into the dealer next week for the first oil consumption test, just to document it with Subaru. I am about 1 qt every 2200 miles, but it has increased unfortunately and I am close to ending the factory warranty.
I am also looking to get a CVT oil change/flush. I will send the oil for analysis. 1 sample of clean oil and 1 sample of used oil, for the best comparison.
QUESTION: The dealer said the CVT oil flush is about 2 hours labor, PLUS 1-2 hours additional for a tech to drive the car and "re-program/re-learn" the CVT??? Can anyone shed any light on this? It makes no sense to me and I would like to ask the dealer to show me this procedure documented from Subaru.
thanks
Tristan
I recently did my CVT fluid and it is about 2 hours, but there was no addition for driving the car. And there is no "re-program/re-learn". Run away from that dealer. Sounds like a scammer.

I have seen in the past, with my Honda vehicles, that when an issue exists and enough people complain the manufacturer will put an extended warranty in place for the affected component.
-
Looks good. I'll probably still change mine every 50k-60k. No harm and hopefully extends the life of the CVT

My thought is the if it is the nature of the beast, then it is piss poor quality on Subaru's part. Who wants it to be "normal" for a car to shudder and vibrate when coming to a stop?
Subaru has a problem here and they are having a hard time fessing up.
My car is slowly but surely exhibiting this more and more. It is still hard to reproduce, though. I can't reproduce it at will. My service droid at the dealer wants me to get all kinds of induction cleaning, etc. (at my expense). Torque converter problems? He says he's never heard of them. Yeah, right.
I expect this to reach a crisis level later when all the cost is in my court. Right now, I'm pretty spooked. This is my first Subbie, and will be my last regardless of whether my issue eventually goes to stall. (It has come dang close a few times, including some trouble lights coming on briefly during the near-stall shudder.)
This is not normal. This is not quality. This is not something that wants me to continue to bleed Subaru red.
I just dumped my 08 Accord from all the issues I was experiencing and went to a Subaru because of the positive information I found. I particularly went with this one because it had the CVT replaced 50k km ago. I just hope that the CVT doesn't go again. I will be doing a fluid replacement in a 2k km and see what happens. I know with my 05 Odyssey there was a lot of issues with the TC but apparently if you ignored the transmission service interval and did it more frequently you would be fine. So, I'm hoping fresh fluid will help the TC and prevent future problems.
-
I wonder if it is just the behavior of the beast. Any one else have any thoughts?
-
I would've thought that the torque converter would've been replaced when the transmission was replaced on the vehicle 50k km ago.
I'm at the dealer getting the brakes done and asked about the torque converter. It turns out the torque converter is part of the CVT so it would be new with the replaced CVT.

Well, I’m stumped
I’ve tried a few DVDs that I burned and a set from a member on here. And nothing. It still sits at the “Please insert DVD” prompt. I tried resetting the unit and still got the same result. Not sure what’s wrong but at this point I’m going to guess I got a bum unit
