  1. Well the gas smell from the rear passenger side is getting stronger. I hope it's the pipe and not the tank. Only happens after some spirited driving and turning which is, by definition, what this car wants to do.

I'm in the same spot, except my garage confirmed that I'll need a tank replacement.

I'd really like to keep this car as long as I can, but fearful this is the age when numerous systems might begin to fail.

  2. I just passed 140k on my 2005 LGT 5MT Ltd. I am still enchanted with this car and hate the thought of giving it up. I haven't had any major problems with it thus far, apart from replacing some downpipes and sensors to keep the CELs at bay.

As an apartment dweller with zero access to a DIY garage, am I nuts for fantasizing that there might be shops in the Northeast who can revitalize these?

I realize I have a bird-in-the-hand, and maybe I should just enjoy it and consider getting it rebuilt only once something major actually gives out.

  3. If anyone else the problem of the display on your AP being all messed up, I recommend that you push really firmly on the connection at the ODB port.

The left 1/8th of the screen had static and the remainder looked like each row of was shifted further to the right. I was worried that a broken LCD display was going to give me a $400 repair bill from COBB (of which I'd heard mention on other threads). Other posters' advice of making EXTRA sure you have FIRMLY connected to the ODB saved me a COBB call.

Hint: Reaching over to the other side of the flimsy panel on which the ODB port is mounted should give you the leverage you need to squeeze the connectors firmly enough together.

  4. I have also been holding off on my install until I can find a 3.5mm GLI (and it's frustrating me - I know I'm being anal, but the idea of unnecessarily having to go 'to' and 'from' RCA just grates on me).

Has anyone had any luck finding this elsewhere?

Why is this thing so rare?

  5. I got this for my wife for Christmas. She was working today, so I dropped her off and spent the afternoon with the OB in the garage. I ran a line out to the center console, then into a Belkin Auto Kit. A few notes for anyone who's thinking about doing this:

    Full list of parts needed:

    • Jazzy Aux-in thing
    • Radio Shack ground loop isolator
    • Radio Shack 3' 2 x Male RCA-to-mini cable (incl. 6" 2 x female RCA-to-mini cable)
    • Radio Shack female-to-female RCA connector 2-pack

I ran the 3' cable out of the stereo, connected to the female-to-female RCA connectors, to the ground loop isolator, then to the included 6" 2 x female RCA-to-mini cable. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the bottom of the armrest storage cubby and ran the cable in through there. I also taped the cable to other nearby cables in a few places just to keep things tidy.

Finally: when removing the screws that hold in the stereo, note that there are two recessed screws that you need to remove, and that you don't need to remove the screws all the way at the top. This makes no sense until you remove the wrong screws and can't get the stereo out, but keep it in mind in case you get into that situation.

Thanks again to Jazzy for the great product, especially at such a great price.

    Beeter,

given that the Jazzy is wired for 1/8" jacks, I was hoping to avoid unnecessary M/F adaptors.

If I were to use this Crutchfield product (instead of the Radio Shack GLI) am I right in thinking that I could do without the RCA-to-mini adaptors you published in your list? (I understand, of course, that I might need extra cables simply to cover the length of the distance from the Jazzy to wherever I make the final jack pop out)

    Thanks, Mason
