  1. I just think its funny how people quote KW, and all the pricey stuff, I ran Tein SDS on my 09 WRX and on my 08 Legacy, and I had no issues ever. car road great! They are also not cheap. BTW if your going to dump the car or tuck tire your ride is going to be garbage. All I ever did was take out the tire gap and never touched them.

None of it matters because the guy who's selling that stuff is unresponsive. I'll probably just go with Tein springs and stock struts/shocks. This isn't an expensive build. Just something for me and my kid to have fun in at local track nights.

  2. All items are located in Oakland, CA 94606. Prices listed do not include shipping. I have a bunch of other stuff not listed, if you're looking for something lemme know.

7k/7k KW Coilovers w/ spec.b tophats - $600 - unknown age & mileage as they were on the car when I got it. No signs of leakage, didn't clunk, not blown. Lots of rust on the springs, hence the low price.

7k/7k RCE Coilovers w/ cusco camber plates - $700 - 30k miles - No signs of leakage, no clunks, not blown. Some rust on springs.

Whiteline front and rear swaybars - $250

Front strut bar - unknown brand - $100

    Perrin TMIC - $300

Deadbolt 18g turbo - $250 - no shaftplay, no WG crack, no smoking, didn't leak or burn any oil when it was in use. Took off when I sold my old wagon.

BSM Sedan rear bumper - $20 picked up only, will not ship. No cracks or scratches, excellent condition.

OEM Intake manifolds with TGV's & injectors - free picked up in oakland, ca

Are you getting PMs about these items and just not replying to them? Or are you not getting them?

  3. I've been doing a lot of reading here, and there's some great history, spanning YEARS. I really appreciate the read from everyone I've read.

I bought a 2005 Legacy GT 5 spd Ltd wagon new, in 2005. I drove it for 7 years, and it was my most favorite car ever.

I broke a piston ring land, and sold the car for a used '09 WRX. I nearly turned my back on Subaru forever, the experience was so terrible. That car was a rampaging pile of shit, in spite of presenting like something that had a flawless body and appeared to have been looked after.

This past summer, I did a track day in my LS3-powered car, and I enjoyed it so much, I started thinking about something with less power, and less expense in the event that I put it into a tire wall. I also needed to find a car for my soon-to-be-16 year-old son. That brought me back to a Legacy GT.

So I picked up an '05 Sedan (pictured with the wheels off my poxy '09 WRX):

I've been trying to assemble a parts list of things to get for some improvement on the track, while retaining streetability. And for cheap thrills, I really need precious little. Suspension refresh, brakes (I have a big brake fetish, but know I don't *need* it), up pipe/down pipe, turbo back, intake, tune, and tires.

I don't *need* more power than what it has -- especially for my son who's already chomping at the bit to drive the LS3 car with 3x the power and ~4x the torque. But relatively speaking, I feel like 300 whp/tq should be attainable without too much expense and/or strain on the rest of the driveline. If I'm wrong about this, feel free to correct me.

It's drinking a bit of coolant, and with 178k miles and the heads having never been off, I know it's time. So a friend who's a master Subaru tech has agreed to help me out. Once the motor is bolted to the stand, a lot of things are easy to do. The clutch was replaced on this car only 40k miles ago due to a failed TOB, but while we're there, I'm thinking single-mass flywheel, and something less-nice in traffic. :)

I'd love some Spec.b struts and STI springs, but... That's probably not realistic. As a cost saving measure, I'm thinking coil-overs? I just always hated the idea of them because they usually ride like garbage on the street. Sway bars and bushings all around are what I'll have to do the most research on.

    Thanks for following my ramblings.

    :)

  4. It's funny...

I joined the Legacy GT Forum in August of 2005, when I got ABP 5 spd Limited wagon -- new. I owned it for 6 years, and 163k miles. It was my most favorite car ever. It's since been supplanted, but I liked it enough that I had an opportunity to pick up an '05 unlimited 5 spd sedan for my soon to be 16 year old son.

So like John Wick, I'm back.

And it's good to be back.

    :)

  5. Wow, it's been a while, guys...

I sold my '05 LGT and got an '09 WRX:

    DSCF6039.JPG

But it hasn't been without its drama. Long story less long, #4 rod bearing failure at 65k miles. Subaru picked up all but $1000 of the cost, but I'm still pretty butt-hurt about it. Compound that with a dealer that couldn't find its ass with both hands, and it's been a lousy experience.

    IMG_20130207_163448.jpg

All seems to be finally sorted, and I've gone full-yabbo. I have a Cobb AP and intake/box sitting on the table, and a misc. sourced turbo back in the garage.

It's time to quit dicking around.

    :)

  6. Hey, guys... Long time...

I'm at 153k miles, and I'm using a quart of oil every 750 miles. It seems, from what I've read, that it's probably a ring-land failure on cyl #4. A compression test will indicate for sure, but no matter what, it's probably time for a top-end. And if I'm honest, that's a disappointment, but I'm committed to it.

Do we have any quality independent shop options for a teardown/rebuild in Cleveland? The dealer will likely want $5k for this work -- plus the cost of the clutch, etc. (original clutch, so might as well change it).

    Thanks in advance...

  7. i also have lower control arm bushings that need to be installed too so maybe we can find someone to do both of ours?? are you upgrading or replacing oem? i have a whiteline kit that i am pressing in.

i also plan on painting my calipers at some point, lol i hope it cools down soon

I've got all stock stuff I'm pressing in. After 124k miles, I honestly have no complaints with the performance stock suspension -- when it's not completely worn out. I drove Jason G's Spec B with a fraction of the miles that my car had at the time, and I think we were both surprised at how not-that-different my car felt to his, and his has the uprated Bilstein stuff, and I believe he had bigger sway bars. The main difference I felt was in the up-pipe/down-pipe. BIG difference. I've had cars with super-stiff suspension ('93 RX-7 R1 back in the day), and I'm over it. There's no good reason for it when I'm driving ~50k miles a year on Ohio roads. Plus, I drive like a pu$$y. So what's the point?

If I end up getting a press, you're welcome to bring the car by and do it. I also have a sandblast cabinet, so you can do your calipers at the same time. I've rebuilt two sets of front calipers, and both rears. So I know my way around those pretty well. And, I have a Vacula power bleeder, so bleeding up the brakes takes minutes for all four.

  8. Anybody want to help me rebuild my suspension in the near future? On tap:

    Struts, F/R (an all hdwe -- mounts/boots/etc.)

Both (all four) control arm bushings

    Hubs/wheel bearings

    Ball joints

It seems that I'll need a press for the bushings. Has anyone got one, or should I just pony up the $160 for a HFT 20-ton press?

    Thanks.

    :)

  9.

FWIW, David has always been good to me - being a new parent at the time I met him, the two of us used to just hang out after the initial rush is over on each vehicle, and talk about our little girls. I even sent him pictures of my little one on her little electric cart, when she was a baby, sporting Buschur vinyls. To me, he's a nice down-to-earth guy who's really passionate about forced-fed imports. It's really too bad that, first of all, the real-world limitations of running a profitable business simply means that his hand was forced, in "giving us up," and also that he got such an undeserved reception over on NASIOC, just because he is outspoken, had some unconventional (and ultimately proven valid) ideas, and was "from the wrong side of the tracks" when it comes to brand-loyalty.

If he'd give me an audience, I'd be more than happy to talk to him, and ultimately, pay him to tune it. I had heard lots of negative things about him, which is all the more reason that I'd like to talk to him.

Again, in the motorcycle realm, I've had some dealings with vendors who were completely straight up. But they were also businessmen who didn't have time for dreamers or time wasters. I can fully appreciate the need to fire customers from time to time.

But when I alerted folks that I had had a good experience, I was shunned as a traitor. The simple fact was, either people owed the vendor money, or the vendor put money out on the promise of punks who never intended (or had the means) to make good on their promises.

When I had actual money to give in exchange for goods or services rendered, the vendors in question were more than happy and willing to assist -- which is usually how it goes. Not, "Yeah, like, I'm gonna get paid next week and, like, I'll totally be down here to settle up."

    :)

  10. WGA = Wastegate actuator. Stock barely holds after 6-8 psi. It took all of 3rd gear to get those 20 psi.

    I've always wondered about this.

I have an SPT intake on my car. And, yes, I know, supposedly it sucks, so to speak. I'll say that under most circumstances, I don't think it _hurts_ the power. When it's hot outside, and you're sitting in traffic, it hurts the power.

But being as noisy as it is on both boost and blow-off, I've always wondered about how much boost is being wasted, and how much is actually making it upstream. Third gear is a prime example, when you're about half-in it, and you hear the TSSST-TSSST-TSSST-TSSST-TSSST-TSSST-TSSST-TSSST in rapid succession. Step all the way in, and it's gone. I don't know if that's because more boost is making it upstream, or if you just can't hear it because the sound isn't bouncing off half-open the butterfly.

  11. music

My information is outdated, but to be complete - back in '05-'07, LERSOC used to host such tune-dates at David Buschur's place, flying in popular tuners: most notably Tim Bailey, now of Cobb/Surgeline (then PDXTuning) for ECUTeK/UTEK/AccessPORT dyno-tunes (Buschur's dyno is a pure heartbreaker, but he's set it up to be an awesome tuning tool: avoid it like the plague if you're a dyno queen and just want good numbers, but if you want a good dyno tune, he's got it dialed-in).

When I worked in Lorain County, I used to roll by Buschur all the time. I nearly caused an accident one day when he had a blue Skyline R34 sitting outside.

    :)

I'm pretty familiar with what wheel-hp looks like. I've been racing motorcycles since 1995, and I've seen all manner of people throw a fit when they see a number come up that has no thing to do with claimed crank hp. And, I've also seen numbers that were so obviously incorrect. I used to have a Suzuki TL1000R, and Hans at HMF Engineering made an exhaust for it. He put it on the dyno and it showed 131 hp. He was so excited to tell me, but I said something to the effect of, "Dude, NFW..." 120 - 125 hp would be a really nice improvement over the 115-ish stock hp.

It's just a number, and if that number was 11, and you did something and got it to 13, that's all you really should be concerned with. I've never looked around, but if I had to guess and put a number out there, I'd think a stock LGT is somewhere around 180 whp. AWD is pretty lossy...

  12. and just out of curiosity, what does your name mean. do you listen to emo music;)

I'm addicted to electronic dance music -- most specifically vocal trance (Armin van Buuren, Dash Belin; Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren; Ferry Corsten etc.). I used to go to illicit raves in the early 1990s in Detroit while a student at BGSU. Let's just say that those days are long gone for a host of reasons. But the music was, and still is, the most important thing.

One of my best friends was with me while I was listening, and he said, "Well, if there ever was music to kill yourself by, this would be it."

    It kind of stuck.

Ironically, my primary online persona, for years, has been 'wast3gate' -- even before I owned a turbo car. I never made the switch here, because I suspect I'd get a lot of sh*t over it.
