  1. just to round out the exhaust discussion, a famous exhaust dude (granted, worked on V8's most of the time) stated that:

    - A pipe flows 115 CFM per square inch of cross sectional area

    - You need 2.2 CFM of flow capacity per HP

(this is probably not based in science, more likely experience...)

So for 350hp, you need ~3" exhaust.

It does make me wonder what you actually need, in a science/data way...

Interesting. If that theory holds true, you would think that the stock 350hp cars, i.e. BMW M's, Audi S's, etc, would roll of the assembly line with 3" exhaust.....maybe they already do? (I'm not a BMW or Audi guy), so I don't know. I haven't heard that theory before, but it kinda makes sense.

  2. I've only seen it a few times at night. I can tell that the owner has gone through at least 2 plastidip/vinyl jobs.

The first time I saw it was a horrible matte orange and it looked cheap. Although after viewing it last night, I noticed it changed and had a nice/rich metallic orange. I haven't seen it in the day time, but it looked really good in person at night. I was surprised as well.

I wish my Outback had the exhaust cut outs on the bumper. Unfortunately, it seems I will have to settle for the turn-down style muffler deletes from Nameless on my 3.0r Outback since I'm not willing to dish out almost $1000 for the Legacy bumper, nor do I want the exhaust hanging below the bumper. Has anyone tried cutting out the bumper to fit a Legacy styled exhaust? I've never seen it done.

The Nameless deletes are insanely loud while highway driving. You have to remember, the Outback is essentially one giant bass tube. I started out with the deletes....my neighbors hated me, and my wife refused to ride in the car. Then I went to the 5" muffs, and they were amazing. Nice smooth sound from the EZ30. Then I went too far, and got the car ready for a supercharger, and put on Raptor headers, with a full custom header back exhaust with high flow cats. The rasp was so unbearable, that it shook the headliner......so I switched over to a set of AVO mufflers. Deep tone, but anything over 20mph was like death. Finally, I threw on a set of new OEM muffs, and welded in a Vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Nice and quiet, with a little blurble if I get on it. If I could do it all over again, I'd go with the Nameless 5", and do some major sound deadening. A nice set of OEM STI quads would look great, but that would require a lot of work making them fit. @imprezkid did it, and it looks great, but alot of work.

  3. One of my requirements for mods to this car is that they are capable of lasting through salty, wet, Midwest winters without being destructive. I also fully consider function over form (as we all know at this point ). So that narrows me down to wheels that look nice, but also will not rub under any circumstances, while also allowing me to retain a decent alignment and not perform any fender work whether it be rolling/pulling/cutting. I stuck with a 8" wheel because that's about as wide as I can go in the back without rubbing the inner fender liner during hard cornering and about as close to the strut as I am comfortable with in the front with a 245 tire, and stuck with a +48 offset as that allows me to keep my alignment flatter all around to make use of those 245's without rubbing the wheel arches and destroying my tires and creating bare metal spots to rust.

Could I have gone with a +45 offset wheel and had "minimal" rub? yes. In fact, I'm sure for daily driving, I'd have none as it's only 3mm difference. But on the autocross track, issues would surely show. I am the type that goes crazy if something I built is not working properly, and rub falls under "isn't working properly" in my book. I know, I'm prissy about it. :)

I get it. IIRC, you had to resurrect this car after engine failure, right? Or maybe I have you confused with another red OBXT owner.

  4. Great point. Let me go tell my wife to suck him back up and reabsorb him. Your .02 cents just changed my life.

I have a Subaru to work on, because I have a wife, and 2 teenage daughters. There's only so much a grown man can take before he finds new reasons to hang out in the garage, and "work" on the car. :spin:

  5. I should buy you some beer, coffee, spliff for a ride sometime. I want to feel the h6 anyway. :)

I recently tried out some koni's and epics, and it though I loved the reduced travel it was still pretty plush to me. The owner said it set to middle so theres hope.

I'm available almost anytime. I think I spotted you on University in Fridley, a while back. I was headed in the opposite direction, towards 694.

  6. I too have heard that the Tein H-Tech's are extremely harsh. I can tell you that Konis w/ H&R "sport" springs aren't very "sporty". Cranked to full soft, its a fairly harsh ride on the surface streets. So much so, that wifey doesn't like riding in the car for more than she absolutely needs to. On the highway, they're amazing though. I just chalk it up to the fact that I'm driving a lowered car that was never intended to be lowered. Salt on the MN roads doesn't help either! :spin:
  7. I really loved them on the other guys outback but he was lifited just a touch over legacy height and I think the aggressive look compliments the gap. Since I have no gap the car has a more feminine look and I think the rounded lines of the stock wheels compliment the other curves. Plus silver on black is classy. My wheels up close are also scratched up quite a bit. I got them off a wreck on ebay.

But I also deeply appreciated RCR's miata episode recently.

Interesting. I'm lower than stock Legacy height, so we'll see how it looks. I lucked out, and got these off a guy that bought a new Crosstrek, and upgraded to the STI wheels, so they we're only on the vehicle for a few test drives. I kinda feel bad putting them on for winter, given the excellent condition they're in. I'll post pics of the silver snow plow in a couple days!

  8. Snows. 205 55 17. Definately can feel more power from the lower profile.

As far as the rims, I do not like them for some reason and am going to put the tires on the stocks next week.

FWIW, I think they make the wagon look great. I'm putting the same Crosstrek wheels on mine tomorrow.

  9. Check your front top hat orientation. The 2 "weep" holes should be facing the outside of the car.

These were pre-assembled when I bough them. Only had about 1K miles on them. They've been in the car for about a month, with no issues, then just a few days ago, the clicking started. The noise isn't as noticeable when the car is on jack stands, because there is less stress on the struts. That's why I'm leaning towards a strut issue. The top hats can only go 2 ways, max positive camber, or max negative camber. I know there was a design issue with these, but that was a previous version, and has since been rectified by Whiteline.

  10. Has anybody here experienced clicking noise from the front after installing these? I have Konis with H&Rs, and a few days ago I started getting a clicking noise from my drivers front, when turning the wheel to the right. The CV on that side was only 1 year old, but I replaced it yesterday anyway, just to be sure. Didn't get rid of the clicking. I do have Whiteline com c adjustable top hats, and I have read about possible issues with those, but that was a known issue with their previous design, and these have the new design. Does a bad ball joint click? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Curious, where did you come across them pre-assembled? I'm considering the Koni route myself and not that I have a problem with cutting a strut, if I don't have to... :)

Pure luck. Found a member that was selling his Legacy GT, because it was collecting dust. He demodded it prior to sale, and I jumped on the Konis, in exchange for my stock Legacy suspension (had an extra set in the garage) and some cash on my end. <1K miles on the setup.
