  1. I appreciated the procedure, as I would never have even known where the banjo bolt was. I would add a few things from my first time at this rodeo for anyone else who has never attempted this. If you are able to do this in 30 minutes the first time you ever do this, then kudos to you, because it took me much longer. Although I was able to get the banjo bolt out with the turbo heat shield in place, it was absolutely necessary for me to remove it to put the banjo bolt back in. Additionally the crush washer between the engine block and oil supply line fell out immediately and down where it was inaccessible (aka the abyss). I had spare crush washers, but reinstalling the one between the oil supply line and engine block required some creativity as the first one that I tried to install also dropped down into the abyss. Also a bone to pick with the statement "don't over tighten". Would you care to quantify that? Apparently I guessed right, because I didn't snap the bolt and it hasn't shown any signs of leakage. Also, you can get by with a u-shaped 17 mm combination wrench if you don't have a 17 mm stubby. I tried using the s-shaped 17 mm combination wrench but it definitely won't work. By appearances, it looks as though a 17 mm wrench with an offset might also work or one with a deep box end, as long as you can clear the exhaust flange and the hose that is almost entirely in the way.
  2. It happened again, but this time I knew how to access the engine code and it came up P0600 Serial Communication Link. Even though I took it back to the dealer with the check engine light on and they checked the code themselves, they say the code is too vague to ID without it occurring while they are monitoring it in real time. What appears to be common in both cases is that it was a warmer day (70's) and the engine was effectively idling (the first time I was coasting downhill and this time I had just started the car in the parking lot at about noon). Needless to say this is getting frustrating since the dealer's mechanic can't seem to duplicate the problem. So they will probably send me home again under the assumption that it will reappear and then I will bring it back to them again for the same runaround. Is there anyone in the Pittsburgh area that can recommend a really good mechanic? Most dealership mechanics don't seem to be very good.
  3. Other evidence did not indicate that the car overheated. I turned the ignition on a couple minutes after I shut off the car and the temp gage was reading just shy of midway which is unlikely if I had just overheated it. The overflow tank was at a normal level and showing no signs of having had hot coolant dumped into it. After it had cooled down enough to open the radiator cap the fluid level was right up to the cap. In spite of this, the dealer said the car no longer had a check engine light when they looked at it and the computer didn't have a log of a check engine event. They spent a day trying to duplicate it and could not so, I have my car back and am unsure of when it might show up again.
  4. I was driving my '06 LGT home from work on Friday and the check engine light came on. Being a first time owner of a Subaru, I was unaware that the thermostat pegs as part of the check engine warning so, I immediately assumed it had overheated. After I got it into a parking lot and let it set a couple minutes, I turned on the ignition and the temperature gage was showing normal but the cruise light was still flashing. Not sure what might the issue might be, I had the car towed to the dealership that I bought the car from about 2 months ago. They didn't get to it until Monday afternoon and mysteriously the check engine light was not on anymore and the computer was not registering that one had ever been on. I know I didn't dream it, since this is the first time I have ever witnessed a Subaru check engine light scenario. Does anyone have any ideas how a car sitting for 2-1/2 days would automatically clear a check engine light and wipe any sign of it from the CPU's memory? FYI-It had been more than a week since I put gas in it for anyone who thinks I didn't tighten the gas cap. Also about a month or so ago, the dealer replaced the dual climate control unit.
