  1. Hey I guys I am new to this site and haven't posted much, but from lurking and posting on other sites I am still stuck and looking for help.

I have a 2000 Subaru legacy gt 5spd which I am looking into going full sti drivetrain with 5x114.3 hubs, dccd, and Brembos all around.

I am planning to also get boost in the future also, ( looking into 22t from a legacy ss) with plans of tracking the car I feel that 5x114.3 hubs will be neccessary in order to prevent the knock back generated on 5x100 hubs with Brembos.

If there is anything you can help me understand that would be greatly appreciated.

I won't say yes or no, but the 2000 Legacy shares nothing with the GC and GD Impreza as far as rear suspension goes, therefore you will not be able to do a simple hub swap like the GC Impreza and BD Legacy (ie 1995-1999 models) can.

  2. However, the R180 is taller and wider than the R160 and you can't put an R180 (180mm R&P) into a R160 (160mm R&P). Also the "differential" in the R160 is so puny that I wouldn't even consider it a differential.
  3. "You can reuse your 5 speed clutch with 5 speed flywheel. You must use the 6 speed clutch fork."

This is good to know as my 5 speed already has a WRX flywheel and ACT clutch and pressure plate.

From what I read the 5 speed clutch and flywheel is only slightly smaller...

    Nasioc Thread:

Will my WRX clutch and flywheel work in a 6speed?

-Yes. The diameter of the WRX flywheel is smaller (230mm compared to 240mm) than the STi flywheel. The bell housing on the 5speed is also smaller. There is less surface area with the 5speed compared to the 6speed but is not a huge difference. There are no issues with running a 5MT clutch and flywheel in a 6MT."

Not necessarily. The 05-09 Legacy GT/Outback XT use a push style pressure plate and throwout bearing, fork, and slave cyl. The WRX clutch that is referred to in the NASIOC thread refers to the fact that 02-07 WRX 5spds use a pull style clutch that is the same as what the 04+ 6spds use.

If you want to run a 5spd clutch and flywheel on your 6spd setup you would need to find a pull style pressure plate and flywheel, in which case its then better just to find a 6spd clutch/PP/fly.

  4. I paid $2800 shipped for an 05 STi tranny with 50k miles on it and it came with a flywheel, clutch, and shifter assembly. Then another $400 shipped for an R180.

04-06 you wont notice a difference in gearing compared to the 07+ trannies so I'd go with what you can find cheapest. The 04-05 have weaker 5th and 6th gear synchros compared to the 06+.

  5. You need to do a lot more reading on the subject. You won't be able to run 5x114 hubs unless you do some custom machining (read: not worth it).

As far as DCCD Controller, an easier setup than wiring in the factory DCCD controller is the DCCDPro controller. I run it with my 6spd and it's a great system and very painless install. I would recommend it over trying to wire in the factory DCCD anytime.

Factory front axles will work without issues.

If the rear axles are the same as the 05-09 LGT, then you can get 07-09 Spec B axles and run them with the R180. There is no need to swap rear hubs or front hubs.

    Find a driveshaft from a 4EAT Legacy (05-09 Automatic 2.5i N/A Legacy)

  6. Leo , I have a DP but unfortunately its an MT one. If you want to modify it you are welcome to take it.

RXL1972 -I highly recommend Wales garage in Hollywood. Ben is the shop owner and is a Subie tuner and racer. He can do anything from mild to wild (fully built engines) his work is top notch. Another good place is Velocity factor in Boca But thats a bit far from Homestead. I always drive further to get better service/work, it makes a difference who you go to. Had too many bad experiences with idiot grease monkeys.

Hollywood is a farther drive from Tampa than Boca, albeit both drives are quite long.

enaggs, get with me before you purchase that turbo kit so we can discuss how to tackle the project and what not. I may not own a shop and working on cars is not my profession, but I am very meticulous with anything I install, whether it's on my car, or someone else's car.

  7. Hey guys!! I'm a newbie subie owner (less than 2 weeks!!). I just bought an 09 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition. I'm very very pleased with the car so far!! I've already been looking to upgrade w/engine mods, suspension, etc. I live in the Tampa area and I have found S&R Performance shop. Any other places I could find in the Tampa area??

I'm sorry but S&R is a joke. I've personally worked on 3 cars (1 of them I had the motor apart) that S&R built and there were bolts that were over-torqued which left me with sheared bolts, broken timing cover, head gaskets reused, and somehow they missed an unsealed valve before putting a motor back together. I've seen their work and truthfully, I'm not impressed.

Honestly, the thing I stress the most when it comes to modding cars is to learn how to do everything yourself and when it comes to custom fabrication, find yourself someone that does great work at a great price if you can't do it yourself.

Since you're in Tampa, if you want to learn how to install the parts yourself, I'm always willing to help fellow enthusiasts.

  8. Nice.. Luv ur car.. I miss my group from Hawaii. We use to meet and hang out once a month.

Thanks, we seem to always end up not following through with any meets we decide to make. Hell I think we've been planning on a Legacy meet for the past 6 months.

I do drive up to Pasco every once in a while when a bunch of Subie owners meet up there on Sundays. Usually when there is a holiday on the following Monday.

When my semester ends this winter, I may just organize something myself. Somewhere between Orlando and Tampa so that both groups will be able to join (yes that includes you Jon as well).

  9. Also, a little bit of information for those that get an STi shift linkage. You can buy a 07+ Spec B stay rod and shifter rod so that it puts the shifter in the center of the console opening. You will reuse the STi shift lever and reverse lockout cable as well as the rubber boot thing on the bottom. If you plan on upgrading to an aftermarket shifter and are using the STi shift linkage, only 04-07 STi lever will work as after having a discussion and sending pictures to Tom @ Kartboy, he said that only the 04-07 STi shift lever will work with the STi linkage setup.

Part #'s for those that have STi shift linkages and want to center their shifters without cutting/welding/spacing:

    Spec B Shifter Rod: 35041AG020

    Spec B Shifter Stay: 35031AG020

I really need a bigger turbo, the VF40 just dies out too much in 4th gear. A tune will get me close to 12s though.
