  1. Yeah, I too was considering whether replacing my Legacy for a manual WRX over concerns with the CVT but I felt I'd be losing out because of all the options I have and the extra space. This is Subaru's way of saying: "We stand behind our CVT" Kind of a heaven sent for me and if anything I should just start saving in the event of a failure, have a fund to cover any if any repairs. I would love to keep it until the wheels fall off. 😂. I already have the extended gold warranty but this adds that extra level of assurance. Any idea how long one can extend their extended warranty? OP, thanks for the post!

BTW, Anyone by Niagara falls with a manual Legacy? I'd love to see one up close.

  2. Not to beat a dead horse but 2015 and later model's head units hardware are capable of carplay and Android auto via a reflash/reprogram but it's not in Subaru's best interest to do so. The fact that you plug in your device via usb and mirrorlink will communicate with it is confirmation that it is capable and can be done. A software developer/coder can download the firmware from an existing Subaru and flash it to a 2015-2017 and tweak it accordingly but no one's willing to take on the task unless they are doing it for themselves or there is a good amount of $$$$ involved. I know there are developers over at XDA that can accomplish this.

  3. Rear Bumper could have the Nice Rectangle Chrome Trim or Rectangle Exhaust Tips to help Blend it a Bit..Then I think it would look better.[emoji15] [emoji36]

I agree. They should have made it the same as the B4. That's a nice looking rear bumper!

  4. Well, I've some bad news for all of us hoping to upgrade our head units to the 2018's:

    Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting Subaru of America, Inc.

Unfortunately, the new head units are not able to be retro-fitted into previous models.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

    Sincerely,

    Amber Anglin

I just sent a reply asking if she could post an inquiry to whichever department writes the code if the new head unit's software could be loaded onto the older head units, and suggested that if Subaru could find a way to retroactively add CarPlay/Android Auto functionality to cars that didn't come with it natively, that it'd be a hell of a press coup for Subaru.

I'm sure that with some patience and ingenuity someone can retrofit a head unit of the same type meaning one with navigation to a previous model with navigation and so on. Sure it might mean swapping pins, plugs or splicing wires but it's not impossible. I've seen people do this with head units from Lexus to Honda and so on so it could be done. I may take a whack at it if I can find a head unit for the right price. In the end I have navigation and am happy with the setup I have and yet I still find myself using Waze and Google Maps on my phone, go figure.

  5. I agree with everyone regarding the head unit. I would definitely pay to upgrade or swap. It's not a new model redesign so I am sure the actual din size is the same. If there's a need to swap pins in the plugs I'm willing to do it. I agree that is the better option than replacing with an aftermarket. Whether I get it from Subaru or flea-Bay it doesn't matter to me. I am patient enough to wait as I have waited this long. I don't need a newer model of the car I currently drive. I am happy with my purchase and plan to drive it till it dies. The head unit is the only upgrade I really would like to have otherwise.

  6. The thing with Mirrorlink is that sometimes it works off the bat and sometimes it takes a few tries. Things to remember:

Make sure you are using the cable that came with the phone

Reboot the phone close any open apps running in the background to free up memory

Ensure that your device's firmware is up to date

Make sure that the Mirrorlink service is running on your device..each device has it's own version.

Use applications that are signed and listed on the Mirrorlink website

Maybe someone here who has updated their head unit to 1.1 and have successfully mirrored their device can upload a video demonstrating theirs working.

  7. Thanks for this! The second update failed on me the first time. Just redid it and it is working well. I used a 8GB flash drive. I am so happy that I can now have my iPhone connected to the USB and the phone's GPS is not turned off anymore. I can now use Waze while charging in again.

Also thankful that I did not have to visit the useless dealership for this update.

Good stuff! Now why would the stealership say it doesn't apply to our cars specifically? [emoji102]

  8. Ok so I tried button savior, but as soon as I hit the multitasking shortcut on the headunit the screen goes MirrorLinkâ„¢ is now in operation and then nothing shows up unlike the video you showed me where they still see the cell phone screen reflected and can select other apps from there

There's a process to get it working. I will look deeper into it. I believe you need button Savior with root and install and additional application apk. So like NavySubsSS said it may not be worth the extra efforts for some or many [emoji57]

  9. I almost got the turbo Kia Optima when I got my Legacy. If only the Legacy had manual and a turbo. I'm guessing that eventually there will be a nice performance tune for the Legacy but back to the initial question. I would like to get a Tesla whenever my Legacy is run to the ground. I have been considering the 2017 base Impreza. Thoughts on the Impreza?
