  1. VF34 with bigger billet compressor wheel. My turbo is slightly bigger than a VF52.

Oh, assumed it was a stock turbo. Like I said it might make more (30-40whp) elsewhere on a different configuration.

Wicked fast car though. Nice work!!

I'll try to get my charts sent over to you.

  2. 259 @ 18-13 psi. I'd say 245 is fairly accurate for you. Keep in mind, I could possibly make 245 on the dyno you ran on. Horsepower figures can be a wash when making comparos. It could be the smaller turbo that gives you a quick launch In first or the 7000 rpm redline.
  3. Plenty of owners have blown the 5EAT with a VF52

Same can be said for the VF-40

Maybe the 52 is safer at stage 2? This is what I tell myself:rolleyes: boost comes on later with the same torque as original turbo - although It's tuned to run less peak boost.

The V3 for 08/09 AT outback and legacy is the go-to for daily driven cars. People don't seem to chase big numbers on autos these days, go figure. The 5EAT tuning is geared towards race car aspirations and there is not really any tangible data/reviews on its' progress for the 08/09 USDM LGT.

Were the load values for shifting ever adjusted on the dyno/road on your car?

    VDC on or off?

  4. It was really easy to destroy mine with a 16g. :)

It was also a test mule with a valve body, injectors, fmic. The few upgraded 08/09 autos that I know of use the V3-sub-003. I would'nt have upgraded the turbo without confirmation from owners who have done the same.

  5. Does anyone know of any tuners that offer this service? I've never really seen anything about it on these forums. I kind of assumed 08/09's didn't have any shot at 5EAT improvements.

There's no point in searching out for the obi-wan kinobi of 5EAT mastery, plenty of tuners out there (both on and off this forum) can tune an automatic Legacy GT. I was tuned on a load-chassis dyno with the VDC disabled, it's perfect now ;)

I wasn't concerned so much with the shift speed since the pedal mostly gets mashed for 3rd gear pulls. On that note, will suggest that any overtaking or hard acceleration maneuvers should be done in manual mode. If you want to get the auto mode tuned to your liking, it might soak up a lot of money by the time you're complete with no guarantee that it will be worth it, just a thought.

    Some things you can do...

Motyl gear 75-90 (Motul) for front and rear differentials.

Amsoil synthetic ATF for the gearbox. Or Motul ; )

Whiteline rear diff insert PN# KDT 927

  6. I think what utc_pyro is saying that, with the Hexmods F1 (which I have as well), that once a shift starts, it finishes VERY quickly, depending on load, etc. If you're at WOT in sport-auto mode, it can really bang off the shifts.

Was implying that the manual paddle/switch flip coupled with a fast ship would be ideal. I've seen the trans-go videos, tough to tell if it actually shifts faster than my own car.

I've tried just scaling the CT table up, and two tables from tuners. The one that kind of matched the actual output of the motor had the best subjective feel.

^might just come down to that too.

Do you guys ever run datalogs during your shift operations and review it?

Would that be an accurate way of determining how quickly the transmission grabs under WOT? Also, does 5eat tuning pay any mind to daily driving duties in auto mode?

  7. You know the BIU has a delay counter to see if you're trying to change multiple gears at once right? Based on what're been found so far that's the likely delay spot. When the TCU decides to shift, it can do so extreamly quickly. I need to post a video of what my car does now, it shifts faster than my buddies S3

I really did'nt get much from the 5EAT tuning videos. Would certainly be interested in knowing your trans mods and seeing the video, sounds like you're onto something here. If it can shift faster (on command) than a dsg, I'm sold. But again, how much work does it take to dial this in? I don't know if it would be worth the risk to run an "off the shelf" transmission map.

  8. Ive got a question i seen utc's post on changing requested torque tables is that something i can mention to my tuner or does he have to do some research? Do i even need to do that since ive got the f1? Also will that change the lag from manual shifting?

You would need some type of hydraulically actuated paddle system to get the instashift that everyone expects from manual mode. These will never shift like a formula one car.

If you use a Accessport, you're SOL.

    Are you sure?

There are RT monitors in newton metres on my AP. As far as I know, accessport tuners are able to manipulate these tables as well.

  9. 87K on my '08 5EAT. 10k or so at OTS Stage 2 and no slippage. Hoping to get custom Stage 2 done soon. Big difference between OTS and custom? (Plan to use BrenTuning)

The custom map is a huge improvement over Cobb's base map for stage 2. The 5EAT is especially smooth with more power between shifts when driving around normally.

Datalog 8 is WOT 3rd gear on Cobbs 91 stage 2. DL 1 is the same scenario with a custom map revision. The E coloumn is Boost and 0 is RPM. Both pulls ~13 degrees C and 94 octane
