  1. Ok I think I am set to go on the pods as far as confirming fitment and whatnot. Just waiting for one local guy to come pick up the single pod that I have printed to make sure everything works in the car. It all works out of the car and whatnot but I just want to check. Been really busy in general so I haven't had much time to work on these or work on getting them set up for a group buy on here. Sorry :( Should be set up to go soon
  2. Please let me know about a group buy as well.

I will post a link for it once I have it set up.

any news on the double and single pod gauges for a RHD legacy?

I have a vent that I mirrored but I'm not sure if it is going to be the same thing as a RHD dash? Can you see what the part number on your vent is? The LHD driver vent part number for me is: 66115AG01B and the passenger side is: 66115AG00B. If the vent on your side is the same then I can print out the mirrored model of the vent that I have and see if it fits the same. I don't want to print out a full model and find out it wont work.

  3. Here's the pictures he sent me of the dual mount. Looks like this one is good to go also :) You can see where he had to make the tube bigger to fit his entire connector through it since it was already all wired into the car.

I thought I took pictures of the stuff but I got a material sample kit to see what some of the different colors and stuff would look like if anyone wanted a different color.

I will talk to the admins and see what all needs to be done to get the group buy all set up.

I'm either ready to buy one or try and print one.

I just ordered my AEM AFR/Boost combo, so I just need the single.

I've got some models of my AP V2 vent mount that I'd be willing to share with the community.

There's a few vent mounts on thingverse that are available too. Is yours different?

  4. Not sure if it was discussed...is there interest in guys wanting one made to fit access port v3? I'd like to see if there is enough interest to get some printed 👍😎

Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

It was talked about. I do have a V3 scanned that I will be making a mount for once these are done. I was planning on doing a v2 and v3 style mount.

Likely a shot in the dark, but does anyone have files for the fastening rims for hella 1000's? I bought a set without realizing they don't have them, so I mocked up bottom tab similar to what the 500's use thinking that was all I needed. It wasn't till I looked online did I release they use a fastener that goes all the way around the light...

Have you tried looking on any of the 3d printing sites that host all kinds of models?

Got some pictures of the single pod with wires in it. The gauge I had was from my truck and has really long mounting studs on it so it doesn't fit all the way in. Other than that everything fits awesome and there is a lot of room for the wires in the tube. With that being said I think the single one is good to go :)

Here's a picture of one of the older revisions of the dual pod with the small wire tube going to the middle of the gauges with the same gauge. Still looks like there is quite a bit of room for wires. However, the guy that has the current dual one said that there wasn't enough room for wires to both of the gauges which doesn't make sense. Waiting for some pictures from him.

    http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab114/gearhead_18/Vent%20pod/IMG_20160601_213940016_zpszpyssh5s.jpg

  5. Alright have a few more test fit pictures. The guy that is testing my dual pod is working on getting me some pictures with gauges installed. He had to cut the "wire tube" a bit to fit his connector for his AFR gauge since it was already installed and routed. Otherwise he said he wouldn't have needed to cut it. I think I have a few gauges laying around that I can play with tonight.

I also ordered a material sample kit so I can get an idea of what some of the other finishes would be like if someone wanted a different/color material.

  6. any of these made for the right hand drive cars

I did not make them for right hand drive but I can mirror the model and it should fit the same for the RHD guys. The other models should be here in a day or two so I can confirm everything works. After that I can mirror one and have it printed to check it. I am not sure if I can just put it on the passenger side of a LHD car though.

  7. Looking to buy the defrost vent single gauge pod. Where is the group buy page?

I'm going to order one of each first just to confirm everything before I set up the group buy. I don't want to go ahead and order a bunch just to find out there is an issue with them or something.

I just uploaded my air-box plug to thingiverse. If I was smart, I would have taken a picture before I buttoned up the car. :) But there is a picture of the part prior to installation.

    http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1543320

I guess I never thought about doing that. Nice simple idea!

  8. Updated the projector bracket, this version is good enough to actually use.

    Thingverse Link

Is that from the bracket I sent you? Looks like it turned out well. I'm curious to see how the ABS holds up to the heat from the headlights. I was hesitant so I just had them waterjet out of aluminum.

Also, I'm sure people are curious on updates for the pod. I have been really busy with work, class, and working on my car, lately so I haven't had much time to get on here. I am thinking that I will order 1 of each of the pods first to make sure everything fits properly and needs no changes. Then if I need to make changes or there is an issue, I don't have a bunch of pods that don't work right.

With that being said, does anyone else forsee and issues with the pods before I send for the pair to be printed?

  9. VDO is a brand of gauge.

They seem to be good quality low frill gauges. I believe all of them are threaded, but I will take some measurements later for you.

Yea I did some looking and found them

Given a choice, I'd rather have the vent part with a simple tombstone sort of thing sticking up in the back, with a screw-hole or two in it. Then do 1/2/3-gauge pods, cell phone cradles, radar detector cradles, etc, separately.

So you are talking something like this? Obviously more refined but I just wanted to see if this is along the lines of what you were talking about.

    http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab114/gearhead_18/Vent%20pod/Capture_zpsxijkdzu6.jpg

  10. Could you add threads to the inside for VDO gauges if asked?

What are VDO gauges? Are you talking about the lip where the 52mm gauge is?

Threads are doable but I didn't make much of a lip on there. More or less just enough so that it will fit all 52mm gauges with some filing/sanding. I didn't want the hole to be too big and have the gauges be loose since it seems like there is quite a variance in size.

  11. Much excite, very!

On the dual pod, is there a hole in the left side as well? The model doesn't really show his but I would think you did it in a way the wires go all the way across to your tunnel?

Also How is the actual gauge fitment? Do they fit pretty snuggly once pushed in?

For which model? The dual or the single? The dual is open between the two gauge mounts if that is what you are asking. I guess the cutaway I took a pic of on the dual initially wasn't from the same orientation as the single. Here's a better pic.

    http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab114/gearhead_18/dual%2052%20cutaway_zpsag2gry2w.jpg

I made the gauge openings slightly smaller than 52mm since I've noticed a bit of a variation in gauge size. It's rather easy to just sand/file out the little bit you need for each gauge.

It might look a little better if you put a small radius on the top outside edge where the vent portion meets the dashboard.

Yea I was thinking about that too but I didn't want to make it too much of a radius. I'll play around with it.

  12. Ok I think I got the two of the nailed down. I made the wire tube sections much bigger. They are now 0.600" ID on the dual pod and 0.550" on the single pod so there will be plenty of room for wires and such. I did take a cross section picture of each one to try and show the tube but since it is a 3D tube it was somewhat difficult to get a planar cut through it.

Here's a cross section of the dual pod wire tube and then the full part.

    http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/ab114/gearhead_18/Vent%20pod/Dual%2052_zps4cxzwt45.jpg

It looks like this is still going to be about $100 for me to print after shipping to me. Depending how many people are interested maybe I might get a bulk discount.

Here's a cross section of the single pod wire tube and then the full part.

This one looks like it is going to be about $70 for me to print and ship to me.

I had a local legacy guy test fit the part from shapeways that I had made and he took a video for me. Here's the video so you can get a better idea of what it would look like too.

I'm open to any suggestions/comments/critiques if anyone has any :) Looks like this will be moving forward soon

  13. That one does look a lot better. What was the cost of the print?

It cost me about $100 to print it and ship it to me (I think it was like $98 something) and I don't think I can get a bulk discount either. I will have to check though.

I think I got the wire tube situated for the dual pod along with the single pod too for those that were wanting a single. Haven't checked what that would cost me to print yet though.

  14. Guess what I got in the mail yesterday!? :D

This one is 100x better than the other one I got. Very happy with this one. I am however going to make a change to the wire tube so it can fit more wires and a larger connector if need be. Not a huge issue. I will be setting up a group buy once I am done modifying the wire tube. With that being said, here's the pics:

I know someone asked about an AP V3 holder also for on the vent. I have a V2 holder modeled I just need to graft it onto the vent. I am in the process of getting an AP V3 to scan to make a holder for that too.

  15. Info on this? What kind of printer is it? I will order one from there to check it out depending on the price. So far Shapeways seems to be the best bet. I should have the model this afternoon.

Here's some info on the Formlabs printer:

    http://formlabs.com/

You can also look here to find people who can print you models using one:

    https://www.3dhubs.com/

Oh I thought formlabs was a website where you could order parts. That is an SLA printer which is what my model from Shapeways should be coming as. I've looked at that 3D printing list before. Thanks though.

  16. ^^ Agreed. There's clearly a quality difference, but some fill primer, and paint could probably get the makexyz model looking as good.

I am very unhappy with the model. They also have yet to return my email which irritates me a little more. If I would have paid for that quality I would not have cared that much. I paid $70 for this one and it looks like shit. I wouldn't even want to send this to someone.

Has anyone tried ordering or printing one of these on a Formlabs printer? I bet they would look awesome!

Streetlegal, I'd be willing to upgrade my printer to a dual extrusion setup and do these with a dissolvable support structure. Don't want any profit from it, but it'd be great if the toolhead cost would be offset from sales. If you PM me the internal volume of the model, I can get you per piece materials cost.

I'm even set up to Livestream so everyone could watch live as they print.

    Live.EmergentPrinting.com

That would be pretty sweet. I believe the numbers for the model material and support material are a few pages back in this thread. I can look it up if need be.

I think SLA would be the choice for these, but cost will likely be prohibitive.

The one I'm having printed from Shapeways should be SLA :) I'm hoping this one turns out well. If it does then I will be printing the other pods I've been working on there too. I have one for an Evo 8/9 if anyone has one that would want one. Need to make a few small changes but will be good to go soon. Only a single pod.

  17. So I received my first print (the one that was 100% filled) and I am very disappointed. I ordered this from makexyz. com

I ordered a .1mm (~.004") build layer and as you can see it clearly is not that. Other than that the overall quality is very poor so I am rather unhappy about spending the money on this as it is pretty much a waste. I emailed them and I will see what they say if they respond. However, the other one that I ordered from Shapeways is done and on its way to me so I will have an update on that soon.

Anyways here's the pics of the one I just got. Last few pics are comparing it to the one I printed here with a .007" build layer.

  18. I appreciate the hard work and dedication. I should be home in the Milwaukee area around June if you need to have anything test fit at that point.

sounds good ha. They will probably be done by then. Should only be a few more days before I get my prototypes :)

It's not a pdf , you hace to change the extension to .stl

Just made thinkverse account so I have to wait 24hr before the file is public there apparently

The part works when you change the extension just checked :)

    Thinkverse or thingiverse?
