  1. ...and the big thing is a new seat since the vinyl is cracked and splitting... certainly not the most fun update, but it's satisfying when everything's starting to feel nicer again.

I'm in a similar boat - car is running great and only 75k miles but the exterior and interior are getting a bit tired. Where did you source new seats? I've been debating trying to get my driver's seat repaired vs. replacing.

  2. I had my transmission rebuilt after blowing up my reverse gear (https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/just-blew-up-my-reverse-gear-278968.html?t=278968)

They replaced the clutch with a full kit as well and said it was pretty worn / some hot spots on the flywheel. I have been driving MT's for a long time but am self-taught and probably a bit of a clutch slipper, so I am trying to be better about it now...

I noticed now that there is a terrible rattling noise at low RPM's in 1st/2nd gear, like when taking a right turn in 2nd and accelerating out of it. It seems I need to be well above 2k RPM's at any point of engagement to avoid it.

Could it be that the new clutch, because it doesn't slip as much as the old, is causing the engine to lug at RPM's that were "fine" with my old clutch?

Is there anything else that would cause this noise?

  3. So on my way to work I merged onto the highway and got up to speed in 4th, went to skip into 6th and must have somehow picked up the lock collar and shifted into reverse... the shifter immediately got stuck with a nice loud grinding noise so I (panicked and) pushed the clutch in and limped to the shoulder.

I was able to force it out of "reverse" and my forward gears work fine, but the car will no longer go backwards on demand...

I got to work but I'm going to leave and try to limp to a transmission shop soon.

No one around me will rebuild a transmission anymore, so it looks like I'll be getting a whole new unit. I will have them do the clutch at the same time - is there anything else I should be replacing / upgrading while I'm at it?

    Sincerely,

    Stupid
