Can you leave the pedal ones connected or do you have to disconnect them everytime

about the pedal one... i bought the car and it was connected for few month before i discovered it. then i disconnected it and i think nothing changed...

i could drive bothways but the one that is under glovebox - when connected it turns the fan on and off until your run ecuflash.(so definitely needs to be connected only when needed)

jut be patient i was trying to figure out how to make this work for a month.. i was doing everything wrong now slowly step by step guys on this forum and on romraider forum help me out a lot. and i dont know anything about anything surprised how i got this far.

edit: about the car_defs.xml i think romraider ask for it or ecuflash dont remember but when you do downlaod that latest ones from romraider link that it provides you download 2 files car_defs.xml and some other format file. drag it manually in software folder somwhere where you want and select the location from the software settings. then i think ecuflash needs latest car_definitions update or something... you download them again somwhere... and overwrite all in ecuflash folder cars list folder somewhere folder .... its a zip file with lot of folders under car model names

duds... adj789 .... Bpalumbo159 ..... if you cant make the cable to work make sure you did this... this is what i did to make it work- with my 4th generation legacy

i used that vag com cable with BL chip inside... laptop with winXP 32bit updated all the JAVA software plus those advanced java SE-JRE things...

cdm 2.08... WHQL certified whatever latest cable driver...

*when i connected the cable to the car and laptop and blue light flashed, windows tried to install the drivers for the device then i manually selected this whql certified folder and it installed everything from that.

if you have this WHQL driver installed correctly in device manager under COM ports it should show this cable as comport3 or 4 or whatever and it should not have question mark or anything on it.

used latest RR with latest definitions then connected both sides of the cable in the car then start the car and then start RR log... simple as that.

make sure all the definitions are in proper places and locations are selected in ecuflash and RormRaider.

------- i had trouble with ecuflash (also used latest ecuflash, latest drivers and definitions for it) i could not read the rom. turns out this car has 2 pairs of green test connectors - one is under the glove box one next to the pedals. one under the glove box needs to be connected when using ecuflash then disconnected when you are done with it.

I am going to avoid WOT acceleration, and flash the stock ROM until I address this problem.

Not always true. I am gathering this is true of some models, but not all. My '07 JDM (same as '08 USDM) using Tactrix / Canbus, does not need green connectors plugged in. In fact, plugging these in STOPS it from working. However giogio43 might be in the same boat as you, since his is also an '05 model.

green or white cables connected or not this ecuflash still does not read. gives an error

i am suspecting that it could be a cables fault but as we earlier sorted this out one i have with BL chip works for everything.

i dont know if it was ok but green cable was connected all the time and i was driving like that hope it did not mess anything up.

giogio43, you'll need to start a new thread here in the Tuning section, many of your questions are going above and beyond the intent of this thread, which, amongst others, assumes a basic knowledge of datalogging.

i did notice other day just a bit of rattling on the left front side in the suspensions some new parts are tight in there a bit.

so should i flash sage 1 map in the car? whats the difference from stock? car goes faster? I IS total noob at this keep in mind. from your logs i see iam and knocks are all good. so thats good i guess

EDIT: OK this is INSANE i just found the green cable and apparently it was connected the whole time i owned this car:|

there was also some brown cable that i connected and interior light started to flicker. also with any of those cables connected radiotor fan did not move at all.

whatever i did with cables connected or not ECUFLASH still gives me an error. and when it does speedometer gauges freeze.

I do not see your car on this list. Am I wrong?

You don't see the knock parameters (feedback, fine learning) in RR w/ the laptop connected to the car w/ the ignition on?

when car is off i connect the cable and the USB side to laptop... then i start the engine and after run the romraider or lv software... RR says CONNECTED and in parameters the only thing i see with word knock in it is Knock Correction Advance (degrees)

my car is all stock, and rom is too i guess, not sure tho.

If your IAM is at 0.64, your car is very unhappy. It should read 1.0, anything less means you have significant amounts of knock. Posting an image of Learning View would help too. The terminologies are different a bit because we are talking about two different programs here: ROMRaider and Cobb Tuning's AccessPort/AccessTuner

i know it must be on 1.0 im just using romraider latest version and LV. and in romraider this knock parameters arent there. should i use some other soft?

i know i must log DA (Dynamic Advance) and FBKC (Feed Back Knock Correction) as it said in the first page but i cant find that in my RR all i had close to knock is Knock Correction Advance (degrees) is it the same thing? and when i logged a bit it went up to 10.5 from 0 :| wtf

in LV i have IAM at 0.64 i have no idea what to log as i connect my car to RR and in parameters i just dont have the same things you write about here on this forum.

logging didnt help i dont understand when i try to select parameters in RR its completely different to what people write about logging those knocks. knock sum, IAM an so on my RR does not have it.

how am i supposed to log and figure out why IAM is at 0.64 if i cant log this knocks or whatever. what should i log then?

Just be aware ECU's in our gen cars IAM goes up to 1.0 (not 16 with a 16 bit ECU)

i do use the best fuel we have here 98 super something something...

googled some stuff... and what i understood was that car has knock sensor that can be triggered by something rattling in the car or whatever and if it is not it than engine is going boom boom

i did hear knocking other day while driving. plastic covers were missing pins under the car maybe thats the cause. fixed it and ill log again tomorrow.

one thing tho i want to know ... when i start engine then run LV and hit connect i get some data out right... so is the software now connected and if i drive around aggressively ill see some changes?

EDIT: few month ago subaru shop logged my car and they told me SPARK plugs need to be changed... why does LV not show me that?

Your LV looks like its working fine, if it wasn't you wouldn't get any data at all. Zeros are good. Your IAM should be 1.0 so you need to sort that out first. Your car is a 3L non turbo outback?

ok, i dont think LV is working i got that new one you linked me... it shows my car as 05 legacy outback:| and as i know there must be numbers and numbers in those blocks...

then i installed latest ecuflash and when i selected one of the LGT cars in the list i hit OK and suddenly engine went off... gauges on the dash froze, scared me a lot didnt go near ecuflash since

when RR logs what am i suposed to do with that xl file?

post on rr forums ask for someone to help you out - or reply to this guys as a follow up...

wouldn't have thought missing defs would cause inability to connect though - thought it would just stop you from flashing the ecu.

installed everything all over and RR is logging nicely. om gonna figure out how to check all those codes or something showing if anything is wrong with the car. and later or ill try flashing too.

IT WORKED...

removed everything and installed latest RR, VagCable driver, some weird JAVA updates SE-JRE, and all the definitions for logger.

connected cable to both sides, started the engine, started Romraider logger and voila! :spin: thank you guys very much!

now another question came to my mind...

what do i do with all this numbers flashing? meaning how do i actually log and see if anything's wrong with my car.

Remove everything INCLUDING that port while your cable is disconnected. Restart. Unzip that file into a folder. Connect the cable. When it asks, tell it to search the location you unzipped it to.

I did remove while cable was out, still the same thing happens it installs the driver by itself doesnt ask me anything, i hate xp. ill try to figure out something...

i removed everything in Ports now there is only COM3 but in properties it shows its still 2.8 version of the driver you gave me 2.6 but i can not install it. every time i uninstall the driver it still installs the same one. and RR still is stuck at "connecting"

Means whatever port that the driver says it's using in device mgr, make sure you got that port selected in RR or ECUFlash. Yes baud rate is speed, try 9600 - although having this wrong would generally give you scrambled data rather than ability to connect so I'm speculating here. Post a pic of device mgr showing driver installed and com port info. Also, test a connection using LV I found that this worked with my car and vagcom but not ecuflash or rr, but tactrix could do all 3.

ok so i uninstalled vag CDM driver and everything in device manager then installed CDM 2.08.30 WHQL Certified again now under PORTS in device manager there is only COM3, speed is 9600.

rom raider log window also shows that COM3 is selected, i even changed to COM4 in device maneger and RR also recognized the cable as COM4 but it is still stuck at "connecting"

under ports does the device show its working ok? is the com port the correct port related to the driver? have you tried altering baud rate on it?

ok what does that mean correct port?

baud rate is the speed thing right from 9400 to 4600 or something like that... havent tried it.

im gonna delete ecuflash then i just want to log for now and try to get RR work.

sorry man its just you know how much i tried to get this cable and now that i cant get it to work its just making me mad and in that other thread iNVAR helped me out too... its just people dont check different threads i guess plus who cares its just a post its not gonna ruin our lives

Alright, slow down.

 

If you are only logging you do NOT need to go in ECU flash.

 

In romraider, did the COM port become selectable in the dropdown at the top?

I finally got the right cag com cable FT232BL but now i have problem connecting it to ecuFlash or Romraider... all there is over 2005 LGT-s and so on.

also do i work with car engine started or just the key in ON possition is fine>>??

and what is that green connector i read about on this forum i have no idea where it is and if i need it.

for starters all i want to do is LOG and see if theres something happening with the car.

I have 05 Subaru legacy JDM 3.0 automatic... at the Ecu flash logging window i dont even know which one to select as my car.

also as i understand i have to match the software version with other driver versions but when i downloaded all the latest ones for EcuFlash and ROMraider with all its definitions RomR didnt seem to connect in logging section and with Ecuflash it gave out an error but under the speedometer of the car it wrote Er oH or something... i think im close but why did it give out the error.....

learning view gave this error ECU ID of 2F0A367106 is not supported
