Thanks to everyone for all the support over the years, but I'm closing up shop on Jazzy Engineering. I will no longer be selling aux-in boards. There's just not enough interest to continue managing inventory and shipping. I apologize to everyone who's had to endure delays the last few years as things have wound down and I've gotten extremely busy with family and work, but I think it's finally time to call it quits on the plug-n-play aux-in board.

FYI - I finally have a lightning cable to offer - they are on order today - should have them in a couple days. They are a fair bit more expensive than the last cables - seems to be the trend in Apple products - nothing I can do about that, but it's here at least.

I honestly can't remember - it's one of the screws that holds the CD changer in place.

adosdrummer - I assume you mean it doesn't completely load. It's possible the loading mechanism is being jammed by a long screw swapped positions with a short screw. There is one position where a long screw traded for a short interferes with the loading mechanism gear - try testing it without any of the screws removed during installation installed and see if it still refuses to load.

 

tdelker - The cables I've sold since around 2008 have all been the new 5V standard. I don't know if the adapter converts, but newer cable owners and future customers don't have to worry about that.

So after installing this cable again it turns out I may be upgrading to a iPhone 5. Because it has the digital only lightning port, can I use the apple 30 pin to lightning adapter with this? I've seen mixed reviews of that adapter not working correctly, as in not charging and playing music.

 

Anyone using an iPhone 5 with this?

It specifically says it *does* support analog audio output. So anyone with an iPhone5 should be able to use that adapter with the iPod kits I offer without issue. No one has reported back yet, but I also would not stick someone with keeping my kit if it doesn't work and will be sure to post here as soon as I hear one way or the other.

I think I'm going to have to go ahead and pull the trigger on this. The CD thing is getting old quickly.

I wish there was a better option for a cable out there - it seems none of them last more than a couple of years in a car though. I'm not sure if that's an artifact of cheap Chinese manufacturing or a design problem with the 30-pin connector...or both. I wish I could design something better, but making products for Apple is a game they've ensured only the big guys can play - everything is completely locked down.

That is exactly the same cable I sell - Amazon just gets a better deal than I do. If you find a cheaper place feel free to post it here too - it won't hurt my feelings.

 

I also just asked my supplier about when or if they will offer a Lightning connector docking cable and apparently there is still no word on when or if that will happen. Not even Apple sells a Lightning-to-audio adapter, just a Lightning-to-30pin...lame.

FYI - I just replaced both front axles (passenger side CV boot ripped) with *New* Cardone axles (not rebuilds) from RockAuto.com.

I marked the camber bolts and disconnected the strut instead - I couldn't easily get the ball joint out. But removing from above worked fine.

 

No noise, no vibration, no problems during installation - seems to be a perfect fit and it came with new axle nuts. OEM may be better in ways unknown, but they look perfect to me and they seem to work great on my 05 LGT.

HDMI should be line level, but I'm not sure it can be done right without a converter box. There are several HDMI-to-RCA cables on Amazon, but they all get terrible ratings - I'm guessing they only work 1% of the time for very specific applications.

There were a couple orders from last week that haven't shipped yet because I ran out of cables, but they are scheduled to arrive today (according to UPS). So - all orders should ship by tomorrow.

 

Also - in general - orders will ship much faster from now on. I contracted out the board assembly and have a pile of about 400+ fully assembled boards ready to ship and I trained my wife to package orders - so my hectic schedule shouldn't cause any more delays.

It sounds like his issue is one I'm actually having with my test radio now. Eventually the CD drive starts to get fussy and won't read some recordable CD's. I would suggest trying alternate brands of CD-R's and/or maybe a drive cleaner disc would work - I'm not sure if the issue is the laser diode is dieing (possible) or if it's just dusty.

Just a minor update since people are asking. I am still building and selling these boards with no plan to stop anytime soon. I generally try to ship once per week - mostly because I am just too busy to build them more often. I have a day job, 2 other side-jobs and a 6-week old baby boy to keep me occupied.

 

In an effort to continue to support this for people who are still in the market (and improve my less-than stellar lead-time), I am getting quotes for contract assembly and hope to pass off the shipping in the near future too. Then I should be able to ship within 1-3 days again.

pretty sure if you don't connect the cd player the stereo won't switch to cd mode and you'll be stuck playing your aux on top of a radio station rather than a silent cd. Climate controls should still work if the cd player isn't connected.

I hope not. Does yours? Any phone will get hot if the processor is being taxed while charging, but "really hot" isn't a term I like to hear. My android phone gets very warm if watching video for extended periods, but not what I would call dangerously hot. I wouldn't expect streaming audio or playing music off the internal flash to overly tax the phone, but it's not impossible either.

In playing with my bench-top Legacy radio - which I assume is one of the oldest - I've found it's very finicky about which CD it will play and all of them play on my computer or other CD players.

 

I would try a different media. I've even seen it completely reject one *color* of recordable CD and play a different one fine (same spool, same burn batch - just different color on top).

After i put everything back up, i've been getting ALOT of continuous sputtering when the car tries to build boost, and i dont know whats happening. I have no CEL or anything. THE CAR IS NOT BOOSTING PERIOD, just holding 0 on the boost controller. Im smelling gas and the car seems to be running extremely rich

A lot of things can be causing this really. MAF seems like a good place to start - I've experienced similar irregular/bad performance when I just didn't have the air-box securely closed and the air readings on the MAF were all messed up. Considering the big difference pre/post cleaning - it sounds like your MAF might be damaged.

i just took a look at these, really have to say i was impressed, particularly with the kitchen. were all the renovations DIY?

 

Thanks - yea the kitchen was a labor of love. The cabinets took me forever to build and finish, but they got done eventually. My wife and I did everything in & outside that house ourselves except for the hardwood floors. We spent days on our hands & knees stripping all the glue off, but the floors needed a lot of work and we eventually relented to the professionals. In the end they did a fantastic job for a fair price (really is an art form) and when it came time to do the kitchen floor - I called them first. Refinishing hardwood if it requires drum sanding - I'd never recommend someone to do DIY - needs a Pro.

 

I am also going through a reno of my house, though I didn't really take as many before pictures, there are a ton of in the middle and after pictures.

 

Just looked at these myself - wow - nice work. Especially like the B/A of the kitchen - reminds me of my old house. The bathrooms & master bath/shower is also very nice - I want to do something very similar on my current home. I wish I could have fixed up the bath on our old house, but there was only one bathroom and we needed it - couldn't afford the downtime.

Looks fantastic Capn - nice work. My wife and I also spent vacations, weekends, every spare dollar and many we didn't have to fix up our last house. Built in 1909 - it had some beautiful hardwood floors buried under a **glued** carpet pad & two layers of carpet (god people are lazy!). We stripped all the floors, put in tile, etc. We never did finish ripping out the fake bricks in the living room. Biggest job though was ripping the kitchen down to the studs and starting over w/new window, recessed lighting (they had a drop ceiling before w/fluorescents - ick) - and my personal favorite touch - hand made wood cabinets (I built them myself - not bad for my first try I think).

We made a very nice profit on the house, but swore we'd never do it again. Built our next house new - somehow that plan never works though. So far on the new property we've built a custom gate, lit arena, barn, ~1 mile of irrigation and the projects continue...

+1 - I think you guys are describing piston ring land failures - #4 of which is the most common.

 

Sorry to hear it - good luck with repairs. Priority #1 at this point is doing a compression check & leakdown test, but I'm guessing you will not get good news.

 

PS - I also broke the damn tab on the Cyl#3 coil pack plug. They are very easy to break.

o and the chain wrench? how does that work to take off the harmonic balancer?

 

As far as I understand - you use the chain wrench to hold it still while you remove the center bolt.

 

I'll be doing this all this weekend on my new-to-me 05 LGT. It only has 65k miles, but it's going to be 7 years old & IMO environmental rot of the rubber/plastics over time has more affect than mechanical wear & I'd feel better knowing it was done sooner than later. Going to do all 3 kevlar Gates belts, all idlers & tensioners, water pump, radiator hoses, Grimmspeed thermostat & oil pump.

is there an option to use a docking cable with this mod? i cant recall seeing a USB port on the little box thing JazzyMT provides.

If you're already set up with wiring for the headphone jack though - it would probably be much easier for you to use something like this:

That will still give you a true line level output vs. the quieter headphone jack levels.
