  1. Fixed a squeaking trunk lid on a 2022 model. The squeak was coming from somewhere in the hinge mechanism, both when opening and closing the lid. The source of the sound turned out to be at the linkage piece between the torsion rod and the curved hinge piece to which the lid is bolted. Specifically, it was at the pivoting joint where the link connects to the hinge. The solution was to copiously spray those joints, left and right, with white lithium grease, both in a fully open and in a half open position. You want to make sure that enough grease penetrates into the gap between the two moving parts. To gain access, I unclipped the fuzzy quarter panel trim pieces and curved them towards the center of the car. The plastic trunk sill trim also needs to be out of the way to do this. All trim is held with Xmas tree push pins.  To remove the cargo hooks in upper corners, rotate them 1/4 turn into horizontal position and then pull out.

If you now have the sport/premium speaker set up, that's likely the profile you should use.

Thanks, this is what I am inclined to do. I forgot to mention another source of confusion, namely the statement in the accessory catalog that "Tweeter kit required for Base model".  That would actually make the "base" sound profile irrelevant. Somehow, 2022 catalog does not even mention the RF upgrade for Legacy/Outback, but that's another matter.

  3. As you may know (p. 13 of the attached document), the amplifier harness in the RF kit has selectable in-line  jumper connectors for choosing what they call the sound profile depending on the trim level. For the Legacy line, there are two choices: one connector (color-coded blue) for base model and another (green label) for Sport and Premium. Higher trim levels come with Harman Kardon to which the RF upgrade does not apply. I have a base model but with tweeters installed, so now it has the same 6 speakers as Sport and Premium. Should I select the Sport/Premium sound profile? Looks like I should, unless maybe there's a substantial difference in performance between the audio units, which I doubt. The part numbers for door speakers and tweeters are all the same between the trim levels, excepting the HK option. Any thoughts on this?

  4. It's seriously a piece of cake to do this through the glove box area.

Wonder why these moron dealerships are still taking the dash out?

Could you please elaborate on how this is done? Is it possible to unbolt the whole airbag assembly and wiggle it out when working from the footwell?

Or is it easy enough to R&R the inflator can (which is what the recall procedure is is actually about) with the airbag still bolted on? Thank you.
