  1. I read somewhere (maybe this forum, maybe somewhere else) that you can force the battery to be charged (w/o TSB installed) by driving with the parking lights on (daytime obviously). Can someone confirm or refute this? If driving with the parking lights on forces the battery to charge, what about nighttime driving with the headlights on?
  2. What comm protocol do (2017) key fobs use: RF? Bluetooth? RFID?
  3. I replaced the OE battery in my 2017 Legacy 2.5i Limited Jan 2022 with a Costco Interstate Group 25. Today I replaced the year old battery under Costco's 3 year warranty. I had to have the old battery jumped twice in 2.5 weeks after the car sat undriven for 2-3 days. (Warranty scam alert: they refunded my money for the old battery, then charged me for the replacement which is $10 more. FYI, a class-action lawsuit has been filed against Costco over their battery warranty.)
  4. I confirmed the light is turning off by folding a rear seat, closing the trunk & watching the light go out with 10 seconds. That eliminates the trunk light as my problem.
  5. Thanks for the reply, ammcinnis.I confirmed the light stays on when the trunk is closed by videoing the light while closing the trunk. Also, the Trunk Open light on the dashboard turns off when the trunk is closed. So the big question now is how long does the light stay on until turned off by the BIU?
  6. Where is the switch that turns off the trunk light? I've recently been having a battery dying problem that I think might be related to the trunk light staying on. I recorded a video of the trunk light with the trunk closed & it certainly appears that the light stays on. Or as another resolution, how do you remove the trunk light bulb? Or does the light time out?
  7. My dealer lists CVT fluid change & front/rear diffs fluid change on their service menu.
  8. Been there, done that. It's definitely a loose baffle. I was lucky to have my muffler replaced while still under warranty, but it took a bit of convincing to get a dealer tech to go for a ride so they could hear the rattle. As soon as he heard it, he said, "you need a muffler."
  9. Thanks for your reply, csaari. My flash drive is setup as X:\artist\trackname.mp3 with 267 folders (actual files is ?, but nowhere near 8k). I suspect you're correct in that there's no way to change how the radio shuffles. I guess that means taking it out of shuffling & just play the mp3s straight.
  10. I play MP3s on a thumb drive (3 GB+) in shuffle mode by file (as opposed to by folder). The radio seems to constantly pick the same group of files to play & most of those are from the first half of the alphabet. I rarely get an MP3 from the second half. Any ideas how to get a broader set of MP3s to play in shuffle mode? The thumb drive is always reformatted before adding new songs.
  11. I've gotten my oil changes at the dealer since I got the car more than 4 years ago. With their coupons, I usually pay $52-$60 for an oil change. It depends on the particular coupon. Currently, the dealer's express synthetic oil change is $60. FWIW
  12. Last year I put Conti True Contact Tours on my 17 Limited & have been very happy with them.
  13. Just saw this about cars' on-board emergency-contact system no longer working after 5G becomes wide-spread. https://sports.yahoo.com/column-switch-5g-wireless-could-130028358.html
  14. I replaced the OEMs with Continental TrueContact Tour tires in OE size. I've been very happy with them so far. I purchased the tires in early Nov.
  15. I've been pleased with them. Ride quality has been good & road noise isn't a problem so far.
  16. When I first got my 17 Legacy back in 2016, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my speedo, gps & cruise control all showed the exact same speed (as opposed to my 14 Legacy where it was always slightly off). Tires were the oem Goodyear LS2s. About a month ago I replaced the Goodyears with Conti TrueContact Tours, same size. The car is no longer a DD & can go days w/o being driven. This past w/e we went to Philly & I noticed that the speedo no longer coincides with the gps & cruise control. It now appears to be about 1 mph faster. Could the Conti's circumfrence be slightly different from the Goodyears?
  17. I'm a little surprised that no one has suggested using Bon Ami cleanser to clean the outside of your windshield. I've been using it for many years on different cars. Works great. BMW even recommends it. Here's a link to a Chrysler Sebring club explaining how to use it. I use a dedicated sponge instead of the washcloth. https://sebringclub.net/cleaning-the-windshield-with-bon-ami-t33631.html
  18. My Legacy went from being a DD to mostly sitting in the garage recently. Since the car is almost 3.5 years old, I expect the battery to die one of these days. As posted in another thread, I hope to replace it with either a group 24 or 34 battery. As for oil, US spec 2.5 engines specify 0W-20 synthetic oil.
  19. A few weeks ago I replaced my OEM Goodyear LS2's with Conti TrueContact Tour tires. They're an exact fit & their winter/snow rating is significantly higher than most other all-season tires for my 17 Legacy Limited. In fact, we're in the midst of a winter storm here in NY & I had to go out to help our DIL who had an accident in the snow. I felt in control wherever I had to go. FWIW. https://tinyurl.com/r9x8bal
  20. My right front passenger seat squeaks like hell whenever my wife is in the car.
