Well I traded my 2012 at 85k to avoid this issue. Leaving the subaru community again. Good luck to you guys. Hope its not as bad as it looks.

For those of you that had the fluid changed at the dealer, did they do a pan drain/fill, or a complete flush? What was the cost?
Drain refill I think. Cost was like just over $200. Took 2 hours plus.

$1800-$1900 for a torque converter replacement, not $8000. Where did you come up with that? complain to Subaru. maybe your issues will be covered.
Even if you DID have to replace the whole CVT, you can find complete low-mileage used units for around $2K.

But in typical Subaru fashion, how long did they deny a problem existed as they installed the fix on the line, then released the TSB?
Good question.

I think the 2012's ore ok
I just searched for the TSB where the change to the needle bearing is mentioned and its date is early 2014.
I think we are all screwed on this one. Unless you own a 2014/2015. My guess is that most 2012+ just don't have the miles to be seeing this happen yet.
Trading mine tomorrow I think.

Would love to know which year the needle bearing REALLY happened since I have a 2012. Thinking about dumping mine if not until 2013. I have 76k already.

75k here with no issues on my 2012. I had the fluid done at 50K just because. It took around 2 hours and cost me around $200.
How many miles on your CVT? Any Issues?

Not to mention it has to be at the exact right temperature. There's no way this is shade tree mechanic work and the poster above obviously does not know what he's talking about. I have changed transmission fluid hundreds of times myself and there's no way I would touch the CVT. But it should be changed by the dealer around 50-75k.
