  1. Thanks for the tips everyone. I was able to get it out a lot easier than I though it would be.

For reference sake to anyone who finds this thread in the future, the number 5 screw extractor worked perfectly. The hardest part was finding the right combination of extensions/sockets to make it fit with the tight clearance. I used a flexible endoscope style camera I had gotten a while ago off amazon to make sure that the extractor was seated right inside the sheared plug threads and it gave great peace of mind to make sure I wasn’t doing any damage to the surrounding area. Once the extractor seated properly it came out pretty easy, I didn’t even use pb blaster etc. just took my time to make sure I was turning the extractor straight. The worry I put into this was certainly not justified with how easy it came out.

  2. Hey guys, I had a big boo boo today. Was doing plugs and coil packs on my 2008 Spec B. I just got the car back from a full engine rebuild and we stupidly used the old plugs and coils (would have been the perfect time to do these...duh, but they weren’t presenting any issues before rebuild) and I’ve been having a bit of a misfire since the rebuild that I was trying to correct. Started on the Passenger side, got everything disassembled, got the front plug in fine. Moved to the back one, finger tightened it and then went to hit it with the torque wrench at 14 lbs per the vacation pix. It was still turning fairly easy but it was getting to the point where I was saying to myself this isn’t right and then all of a sudden I heard a crack and it started to turn freely. Don’t know how or why but it broke clean off. I should have stopped sooner but it was still turning without a ton of force, stupid mistake. Pictures below.

So obviously I’m here for some advice as to what to do now. In the bit of digging around I did it looks like people have had success with a number 5 screw extractor such as below but man does it make me nervous to mess up with that thing:

Anyone out there have any input or suggestions??

The only thing(s) I don't like about it so far is that the front brake sucks, it works but its not grabby enough for me. That and the pedals suck, my feet slide around every once in a while. Might have to swing by my LBS and check out some platform pedals.

My guess is your front brakes need to bled (assuming they are hydraulic) either that or maybe some new pads. Both are super easy to do.

As far as the pedals are concerned I personally go with platform pedals. I have a set of clip in's but I find for the stuff I like to get into (rocky, fast, downhill) I feel more comfortable having my feet unclipped. If your riding easy single track clip in's might be the better bet just to get that extra dig. If you buy a set of good platforms they will provide pretty damn good grip though. I'm currently looking at getting some new pedals, possibly the crank brothers 50/50 pedal. I liked them when I rode them on my friends bike but they seem to get mixed reviews online.

Went riding up at the Trexlertown game preserve today. For those of you that live near enough I would definitely suggest getting up there. It's easily one of the best places around to ride! They have some really awesome downhill sections that run through big banked berms and rollers and all kinds of fun stuff. If anyone is going up and needs directions, where to park, or what parts of the trail to ride, let me know!

  5. I am actually also curious as to how these 27.5 (e.g. 650b) perform..

Chalk up another person wanting to know how the new 27.5's ride. The idea of them is very appealing, kinda get a little bit of the best parts of the 29 and the 26. I saw the release of the 27.5 Santa Cruz heckler on pinkbike.com, boy is that think sickkk!!

  6. ^^nice! Starting them out young, that's awesome!

I keep bending the larger cogs on my rear SRAM cassette.. would an XTR cassette be any better?

I would be interested in knowing how do you bend the rear cassette cogs too? I would imagine this isn't the easiest thing to do?

  7. Ahh. Good old Lake Nockamixon...where some 50+ Legacies all got pulled over at the same time.

How does something like this happen??

I ride at least once a week. We usually do bigger rides on Sunday morning. Been riding these places a lot, The Wissy, French creek, white clay, Fair Hill, and it looks like Brandywine is going to become a heavy hitter because I drive past it on my way to work. During the week, smaller rides we do Marsh creek, Valley Forge, St Peters and there is some single track in Phoenixville where I live. I am currently riding a Salsa Mamasita that I built up a couple of seasons ago. Will post up some pics tonight when I get to my computer. I have heard good thing about your area. We should do a car meet/ ride.

and a car meet up/ ride day sounds like a great idea. We'll have to see how much interest we can generate from people in the area. I've been hiking at french creek but have never ridden there although it looked like a good time while i was hiking. I haven't really heard of many of the other trails, I'll have to do some research and look into them.

  8. Hey guys, relatively new to the forum here. Just wondering if there is anyone else on here in the South East Pa area that mountain bikes. If so what do you ride and where at? I've got a 2012 Giant Trance X4. I ride the Nockamixon trails in Bucks County alot as well as the Trexler Nature Preserve trails. The Trexler trails are some of the best around, very unique and fun terrain. They have a lot of flowy downhill sections with great berms and even some jumps. Heres a picture of my bike:

We can even expand this topic out to anyone who mountain bikes and feels like chiming in!
