  1. Hacking the stock speaker is pretty simple to do.

    1. Cut off the plastic baskets on the back. A dremekl with a diamond blade works great for this.
    2. Trim the foam on the outside of the speaker cone
    3. Cut off the wires to the speaker coil. That gets the magnet and cone out.
    4. Remove the foam on the front of the speaker. That will get you back to the paper spacer. Scape the foam so you can see it well, and carefully peel one layer of paper from the inside until the new speaker fits.
    5. Break a hole where the speaker wires connected for new wires.
    6. Mount new speaker, feed wire through OEM hole. I used some hot glue to improve the speaker mounting.

    Pictures? :)

I realize this thread is old, but as I believe forums are the key to loads of important information that would be lost otherwise, I wanted to share the photos and more detailed instruction of this process that I took today with y'all. They're hosted on NICO, where I am a moderator.

If anyone is interested in details and photos for the above mentioned process, follow the link here:

  2. Howdy fellas.

Getting out of the Miata game- bought myself a cherry LS1 Trans Am Convertible.

If you know anyone interested, here's a link to the ad.

Also, my damned Subaru isn't running at all after replacing the head gaskets. Is there anything you might be able to suggest?

  3. Thanks!

The Club is really nice... like a coupe with the top up, best of both worlds. And since it will be the weekend drive car, the NA can go hardcore track rat... :)

How does it drive in comparison to your NA? Other than being cushier/more ergonomic and comfortable- does it handle the same or better? Feel faster? Shift as well?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a club NC in place of my turbo NA and keep reading the same phrase: "The NC is a better car, the NA is a better Miata." Do you feel similarly since you own both?

  4. 94-95 is only the best becaus it has an oil port on the exhaust side so it's slightly easier to get an oil feed to the turbo.

Either way all 1.8s bend rods past 225-250 rwhp. Ask me how I know lol.

My 1.6 has the unused oil port on the exhaust side. Well, its used now...

I thought the 1.8's needed a feed line near the oil filter or somewhere on the intake side of the block?

What are you running for fuel right now?

Question for you guys....how difficult is it to rotate your motors with the spark plugs out?

Pretty easy, shouldn't take much of any effort.

  5. Nice buy! Check the crank for potential 'short nose crank' issues and repair it if you can.

    As for forums-

miata.net is great for searching out an issue. Their garage and articles section is fantastic for how-to's and DIY work. The car is very easy to work on. The members are generally older and pretty friendly.

miataturbo.com is great for anything turbo related or if you need something for sale. They have a very active selling and buying section. They are a rough crowd (seems like the age is a bit lower than at m.net), but I've learned that if you demonstrate mechanical knowledge and use decent grammar, you'll be just fine there.
