  1. My son in Wilmington recently assumed ownership of my beloved '06 Spec.B. Can anyone recommend a good Subaru shop in the area? Car is in excellent shape with 170k miles on it and can go a long time with a good tech maintaining and repairing it.

    Thanks in advance.

Since no one in the area has responded to your post, I have a friend that is north of Wilmington with another spec.B, just sent him a message to see if he knows of a place. Tell your son that there is a Facebook page for spec.B's if he wants to join, PM me and I'll make sure that he is added to the group.

  2. Good to hear... hopefully we can get to pics in time to have you in there... current idea is to head out for pics at 10am, so you should be good for at least one or two of the spots. If anyone else wants to join for pics later, just reply to this thread and I can update our position.
  3. This weekend we are trying to put together a big meet. Sunday 8am-10/11am at the Brier Creek movie theater. We will probably leave early on a cruise - after that there will be pictures for the Triangle Subie's Facebook page/everyone there and lunch. Alex (the guy taking the pictures) is very talented and has gotten several awesome shots of my car, so if you are looking for some professional level photos... for free... you should try to make it out.
  4. Turn out was good for what was supposed to be a rainy day... I think that we had 8, two of which were Legacies (if you can still count Cameron's car as a Legacy) and Mike showed up again with his Forester. Cars and Coffee this week looks to be shaping up well... Some guys are talking about putting together a group to come up from Smithfield/Fayettville, so turn out may be better than normal.
  5. Hey all - we had a pretty good non-impreza turnout last Sunday... one or two more and we would have had them at any point in time. Thanks to Bcaff for showing that there is more than one LGT in the area. Anyone new going to try and make it out this weekend? Maybe one day the LGTs can outnumber the rest of the crowd.
  6. I've been out to Car's and Coffee twice, and tried to come out several other times but I don't know if I've seen you. If you get to church for the 8am, you can make it out by 10am from Durham right? No shame in showing up late, you wouldn't be the only one.
  7. CALLING ALL TRIANGLE LGT OWNERS (and anyone that wants to drive to Raleigh for a Sunday morning meet): I have been out for several meets within the last few months here in Raleigh, and it's always been WRX/STi/RS owners dominating the meets. I am trying to recruit more LGT's/Foresters/Outbacks to join the mix and outnumber the Impreza's - I'm tired of hearing the "There can only be one" jokes, plus I know that more of us are out there. A few show up at 8am, but most start arriving around 9-10am. It's in the back of the parking lot of the movie theater. 8am-11am/12pm-ish Address: 8611 Brier Creek Pkwy, Raleigh, NC 27617. We go for lunch and sometimes a cruise depending on the turn out. Please pass this on to anyone that would like to attend.
  8. Im in the same boat, 2005 LGT, cylinder 2 misfire, shakey idol, runs great otherwise. It hasn't ever stalled out while idling but gotten pretty close. after reading the first half of this thread and getting depressed cuz it could be lots of stuff and lots of moneys to fix, I think ill start at the recommended troubleshoot step of swapping injectors to see if the code follows. if it does, ill need a new injector and I'm wondering if anyone knows a good place to get them? The Denso W0133 came up first on a google search, but it looks quite different from the yellow top one recommended by Autozone. (and 75 bucks cheeper)

    and so begins my saga

Good luck, I hope it doesn't hit your wallet as hard as it hit me... One thing that I noticed is that as the temp went up outside, the CEL was on more often because my valves were sticking open more often. I'm not sure if the temp and the valves sticking are related, but even now after the valve job, I am noticing a backfire upon shifting when the temp outside is higher. I will be taking it back in to see what they think in the next few weeks.

  9. Yes, I changed all of the plugs (second thing that I tried after swapping the coils from 4 to 2 and the misfire returned on 4) and since my last post I swapped injectors and the misfire again, returned on 4. I didn't check resistance, but it's something that I can add to my check list in the future, so thanks for that. I decided that I have reached the end of my ability to look at this on my own and took it in to a full time subie mechanic. He confirmed everything that I found without me telling him what I had tried: since I am new to subies, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing something wrong. Today he started pulling the engine to check the internals. I will post the resolution once I get the results back. Thanks to all for recommendations.

Listed below is what it took to fix my CEL along with a "might as well do the 105K service": I wish this upon no one... ever - not even Honda owners :

Replaced valves - performed valve clearance adjustment - reinstalled engine into vehicle - test drove vehicle - vehicle no longer has misfire code at this time."

    Total : A lot.

    Positives: Got a huge discount.

Negatives: The clutch fork was reinstalled incorrectly, which made me think my clutch was f-ed up after just spending major $. However, It was put back right the next day.

  10. Okay - haven't reread all of this, but did you check the plug? Plugs will foul/fail and initiate a mis-fire. If it's not the plug, then I check the coil-pack, then the injector. Unless the car has been sitting with limited to no activity, the injectors are pretty solid. Not to say that they can't/won't go bad, but they're not a typical "suspect"...all else equal.

And before I'd pull the injector, check the resistance on the terminals. Is it between 5 — 20 Ω? If YES, then injector is likely OK, but there could still be upstream issues with the wiring. If NO, replace the faulty injector. More injector info on pages EN(H4DOTC)(diag)-166 and -167 of the FSM.

  11. You have to try swapping the injector now if the coil didn't change anything.. You can also make sure there is enough voltage getting there

That was my next option after swapping the engine coil, but I was told by someone that I respect at Southern States Subaru here in Raleigh ("the dealership"); someone that has been around these cars for a good deal of his life, that the injectors are probably not the issue. Do you (or anyone else) have other experience? I was going to put this back further on my checklist and didn't want to have to submit to a valve job (again) on 2 and 4 (had one done on 1 and 3 around 75K by "the dealership" before I bought the car from them). Most of my weekend work in the past has been on old 83-85 Mercedes Diesel cars and some work on a 67's Scout International. I am not a professional by any means, but I am trying to learn more about my more more modern car to try and do more of the work on my own. Thanks in advance.

  12. Mine is a 2009 spec.B with a misfire on 4 with 97K miles on the clock. Swapped the 4 coil with 2 and it's still coming back with the same misfire code on 4. Plugs changed and the compression check was good. Idle is very rough about one in every 5 stop lights. SPT exhaust is the only mod. Cobb AP v2 with 93 octane tune which I have flashed back to stock and still having the same issues. Anyone have any ideas?
