  1. Checking back in with 231k. Old 18G had no in/out play, but enough up/down to chew up the wheel a bit. Could have been worse! Bought a new CHRA direct from BNR.. Great customer service from those guys!
  2. I think so. Still in the process of locating a turbo.. But it wasn't a catastrophic failure. I'll know more in an hour once I get the turbo out.
  3. Been awhile since I've been on the forum but I saw this thread and thought I should check in. My '06 GT is currently at 229k miles on the stock block. The turbo was upgraded at 120k with a BNR 18G, and it literally just blew last Sunday. Kudos to BNR for making an aftermarket turbo that can last over 100k!
  4. Just checking in to let you all know I'm at 60k miles on my BNR 18G TD05. Still happy as ever
  5. Good call. Sometimes people, like my previous owner, will have the OEM crank pulley fail so they get a LWCP as a replacement then run into issues.
  6. I ran an ACT LWFW for a short period of time, and swapped to a 2006 OEM WRX SMFW because of the gear noise. I'm pretty sure that is why the car came with a DMFW from the factory- even with a SMFW I get some gear chatter on decel. If you think about what's happening it makes sense. As you remove weight from the crankshaft, you reduce the engine's ability to smooth out the individual strokes. During decel it is most apparent, when you're barely loading the back faces of the gears. Do you have a LW crank pulley?
  7. Of course there are more non-members than members... I'm sure you're just misinterpreting BMB. What I'm sure he meant was that the majority of people enthusiastic enough to join the forum and upgrade the turbo would probably make other modifications as well.. I'm really having a hard time understanding what your point is with that Tris..
  8. Trust me.. I feel your pain. I agree- I think the Evo16G is a good option for you (I don't think the rebuilt VF40 is an option anymore). If you don't want to go through this again soon, make sure you nail down the oil system. Check your banjos etc. You will need a tune with the new turbo, as the fueling tables will be different, along with wastegate, target boost, and so on. It's important to ensure the health of the motor. Sounds like you're on the right track with the oil system. As far as the TMIC goes, I would replace it too, if it were me. But I think the "nuff-said" comment was intended to politely dismiss the fact that a FMIC is completely overkill on a 16G, even with all of the supporting mods like injectors etc. You're just going to create lag- try to find a nice TMIC, or check out BarManBean's bulletproof TMIC kit, buy an OEM TMIC, and be just fine. My only other suggestion would be to check your uppipe for cracks at the base.
  9. My point with the fuel pump was that the OEM pump is worn. While you may not be increasing IDC very much, the new pump will be able to reliably provide the fuel needed for the turbo. I guess it really comes down to how many miles are on the car.. but running the pump at higher IDC's will shorten the lifespan of the pump further. When I said "save your motor", I meant it's insurance against the OEM pump eventually failing and causing a lean condition. When I installed my BNR18G I didn't upgrade my injectors, but I had all of the other supporting mods. Tuned to a max of 94% IDC, I just felt more comfortable with a solid fuel pump. Lastly, how many grams/sec does a stage 1 car flow? I was flowing roughly 240 grams/sec when I was stage 2, and roughly 280-290 with the BNR.. Compared to high-power builds, that's nothing... But I wouldn't say its the same as a stage1 tune. FWIW, I went this route for a number of reasons- primarily, I know that an 18G with injectors would likely be the end of my transmission.. Running a larger turbo at a lower PSI will eliminate the harsh torque spike down low and open up power in the upper revs.. My 18G never saw over 15psi and I feel like it was a nice reliable setup.
  10. +100000... And as much as you may want to avoid modifying the fuel system, a DW65c pump is an easy install and could potentially save your motor... provided you haven't circulated the turbo mess through the oil in the block. It's highly likely the second turbo blew because whomever did the first swap did not get the contaminated oil resolved.
  11. Subscribe/bump! Any movement on this Free Range Racing conversion?
  12. Have: 2006 ABP Winged Trunk (Debadged) Want: 2005-2009 ABP Wingless Trunk NEEED: 2005-2006 ABP 2.5i N/A hood Dayton, OH
  13. haven't been to the east coast in a really long time. Unfortunately I've already taken 2 vacations this summer- need to wait a bit before I hit the road
  14. honestly, I'd be ok rocking an off color trunk until the ABP comes in- if only shipping wasn't such rape.
  15. If nothing else, it gives me yet another reason to visit New York One of these days!
  16. Haha yea... I've been lusting for a turbo for quite awhile now. I literally installed it after work the night it arrived:lol: Still don't have numbers on flow etc, as my tuner is currently borrowing my Tactrix cable. But we're running 18psi down low, tapering to 16psi per the 95% IDC. But this thing is a machine.. I kept up with some of the STI's on some of our recent cruises.. including an '06 with a knockoff 20G. Just another reason why you don't buy a crap turbo.. or run a 20G on stock injectors Thanks again, Squad.. I literally couldn't be happier with this turbo. Also, props to BNR, because this thing is beautiful.
  17. Installed and tuned the BNR18G. Supporting mods: -Process West intercooler -3port EBCS -K/N panel filter -DW65c pump -catless up/down pipes, OEM catback probably more that I can't think of right now. Since I'm on OEM injectors, I'm currently tuned to ~95% max IDC. Details on flow, boost, etc to follow, but I absolutely love this turbo. Even detuned it is a completely different car. Lost some power down low, but gained some mpg's in the process. The power gained up high is more than worth the extra little bit of lag. I was slightly concerned going with an 18G, but after installing I'm glad I didn't go any smaller.
  18. D@mnit. Wish you were closer. If you haven't completed a trade this summer i may have to make a road trip out of it Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
  19. Where are you from? You need to throw some stuff in your bio!
  20. Alright- I'll talk to the guys and see what we can come up with. Are you pro-tuned?
  21. Not quite NE Ohio, but Dayton here. '06 ABP LGT. Islandborn, I'd love to see your BNR18g.. You should swing by Dayton on your way to Cinci! I'll try to get a group of subies to meet up if you want to let me know when you're coming to town.
  22. Have: '06 ABP winged trunk Want: ABP wingless trunk Location: Dayton, OH 45402 It's worth a shot.
  23. Ugh... shared parenting sucks the big one. I was supposed to pick up my daughter today after work, but since she's sick my ex is giving me a hard time about it. We avoided going to court over custody because we've been able to share pretty well so far, but it's gotten progressively more difficult to deal with her. The stress from all of this is overwhelming.
  24. Saw a blue 4th gen LGT going thru the skyway bridge tollbooth toward Chicago Friday, then saw a 4th gen on Cleveland in South Bend, Indiana.
