  1. Does someone want to take the initiative to start a new thread about the latest topics in this one....i.e. "studdering/ECU issue follow-ups" ?

If not, ill start it off...

If you do, can you start it off with correct spelling?

"Stuttering" is the correct spelling for this word. People who watched too many episodes of American Idol have taken to spelling it the other way...

    :dm:

  2. wow... thats a pretty quick turn around.

    That's what I thought.

Until they installed the newly flashed ECU into my car and the problem became so bad that the dealer told me my car "wanted to fall on its face."

They ordered me a new ECU, which took a couple days. Installed it, and the car wouldn't start. They figured out they installed one for an automatic transmission, though mine is a 5MT.

Ordered a new one, took a few more days to get here. Now it drives great.

Total time in shop: 10 days

  3. I got my car back this afternoon. I had two problems they were attempting to fix: the stutter, and an alignment problem.

I can't tell if the brand new ECU they installed did anything for my car. I only felt the stuttuer once or twice, and only brought it in to be proactive. As a matter of fact, it could feel even less powerful now. Could this be the ECU in learning mode? Should I drive like I stole it for a while to get the ECU trained to my driving style (brisk)? I will post the part number when I get the paperwork faxed to me.

The alignment issue still seems to be here, even though he showed me a new report generated at the shop, and compared it to the original one. Everything looks good on paper. I was at -.08 degrees on a caster measurement before, and now I am at 0 degrees. Things seemed to have been straightened out, yet it still drifts to the right. I really, really, really don't want to go through the hassle of submitting lemon paperwork, but I might have to. I'm about to install the cubby bezel, and have already installed other various stereo gear in the car. I don't want to go through all that again. I can't believe it still pulls to the right.

They had my car for 13 days, and nothing has changed, really. Since I was only able to get it to stutter a few times before, I cannot tell if they really fixed the problem or not. And at what cost? Maybe it's robbed me of some low end power.

    :-(

  4. When I check this thread I am hoping to read impressions of the fix. It is anything but that. I think I have read 3 impressions..

I'm picking my car up this afternoon - I'll let you know how the "fix" works out. Mine's a bit different, though - the original fix, in which they sent my ECU to New Jersey to be monkeyed with, came back in worse condition than I gave them. Much worse. So they've ordered a brand new one for me. He said it was "a newer model," so maybe it will already be programmed to fix the stuttering problem.

    I'll post about it...

  5. Not another problem. Just that when you get your ECU reflashed, the security system, which is integrated into the ECU, no longer recognizes your remote fobs. So, just take them with you when get your ECU reflashed and the dealer will reprogram the system for you. Or, you can do it yourself, following the instructions in the manual.

The dealer asked me to bring my extra fob when I came to pick up the car, so they could program both at the same time. Thought it was cool of them to think of that and call me.

Incidently, went for an 80 mile run up the coast for dinner tonight and in and out of traffic the car was smoooooth. My wife even commented on how smooth it felt and if she notices something like that, it is definiitely something out of the ordinary. I just couldn't get over how much oomph the car had, even at lower rpms in 5th. Nary a hiccup the whole drive

I am happy for you. I wonder why my car came back WORSE when they received it back from New Jersey. I barely experienced the problem when I brought it in, and the service manager said "it wanted to fall on its face" when he test drove it after the ECU reflash. They are ordering me a brand new ECU. Should be the "latest" one available, so maybe I'll get to experience what you're experiencing. I am excited!
