Sold- mods can close.
Thanks for all the support in my (not-always healthy) 10 year LGT relationship

I mean, I would rather have bought this for $13k than spend the $20k to build it, and the PO built the motor
As for a roller, probably depends on condition, your market, and mods. Probably $2-3k max though.
Update on the car, over the weekend I reinstalled the Tarmacs, put in the front Spec B arms with new whiteline bushings as well as the Group N motor mounts. Car is feeling best it ever has.

Hey there, it's still active. Had a few people interested. I've been chipping away at installing some of the parts. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions
-
bump for lowered price, didn't realize all the flexfuel drama
-
nice build and stunning parts list. glws
Thanks Boxkita, means something coming from you
This is over a decade of work and two chassis assembling these parts. I don't even want to know how many $$$$.
We're trying to build a house (which has gotten really expensive lately) and she's just sitting and I'd much prefer to see her get used.

Reposting this from last fall
This car is pretty well sorted, and I have all the final parts to make this already car even more radical, but no time to install them.
The car is road protuned by Cam Tuning @21 PSI
I've been building LGT's for about 10 years, you've probably come across a post of mine here or there.
The car used to be owned by LGT member Morning Woodie Wagon.
I bought it in July of 2017, and started from his great work and took it to the next level.
My goal was to build the most perfect ultra high performance LGT wagon daily driver.
It has almost every upgrade imaginable. And the rest of the parts to finish the ultimate build.
The only issues with the car are some cosmetic stuff with the repainted front bumper (extra JDM included) and a handful of small surface imperfections, I'd say in very good condition for a 16 yo car. Interior is 9/10 not rips or tears in seats etc.
Priced as a deal for someone who knows how rare a 6mt wagon is, what all these parts are worth, and wants the ultimate LGT wagon.
Message me for more background. Almost all of this car's history and build is documented on here. MWW had a full maintenance records.
Here's the parts list- note some stuff is not installed yet, tons of stock and replacement parts as well that will come with it.

Hey there, I've decided to hold off on selling for the time being.
Thanks for all the interest.

I wouldn't exactly call it a comfortable daily for a family in New Mexico with kids. Super stiff suspension, heavy clutch and looooow to the ground which is a real thing here. And it wasn't me who wanted the VW wagon but point taken.
And yeah, I guess the issue is I don't really drive much at all, walk to my work, etc. So I just don't get to enjoy it much. Reality is, that this isn't worth nearly as much to someone else as it is to me.
Probably just need to eek out just a bit more wrenching and driving time. And a house with more parking
I say drive the car - why even have another daily if yours is sorted? Especially given the truism that you'll never get what you put into it back out. Is devaluation due to more wear and tear/accumulated miles on what is objectively a $10k car really worth worrying to the point where you don't even drive the thing you (presumably) built to drive and enjoy?Every time I think about how much time and money I've dumped into mine, I think about what it brings to the table. It's a cool, niche-y wagon that makes good power and handles fantastically. I spend a good bit of time on the road and daily driving this thing through twisty back roads is oftentimes the highlight of my day. Ultimately, I've stopped caring about cosmetic and mechanical minutiae, and learned to just take the car as what it is and enjoy the hell out of it while I can. I intend to run it into the ground - that's the only way I'll feel like I got anything close to my money's worth out of it.
My .02.

Good golly, in my "old" backyard too ( ABQ for a long time ).
We're in the 'Q next month for my father's 80th, would be so much fun to talk the home boss into a diversion LOL ( yeah right ).
Did we talk way back about your black 6mt sedan that was for sale?
-
Yeah, he's a great dude, and it was definitely bittersweet for him.
Although he seemed to be enjoying his Fiesta ST and I'm sure he was pumped for the Stage 2 upgrade he got to do when he sold it.
GLWS!!! If I was local and had the money, I might buy this wagon.I know the car well and did an S-ton of work on it over several years. First time I worked on the car the shop was not yet open. I was hanging out with another forum member and helping him out. We worked in his garage. I consider Morning Woodie Wagon a friend and was heart broken when he got out of the LGT game (wife, kids, work, etc.).
If any potential buyers have questions about the work I did you can hit me up.
-
Yeah, we got the Alltrack with 6mt for $21k brand new, hard to beat, its a great car. Feels like an evolution of the LGT in a lot of ways, with a way higher quality interior. Tuning is weird with these though. Can chip/dp it to +80tq +60hp which should keep me happy when I start to get bored but I'm still trying to figure out the VW turbo tuning. I had a bunch of NA vw's back in the day, but lots changed since CIS injection.
If it's any consolation, even though 5mt wagons are getting more rare, I don't think they are going up in price, at least not up here in Canada. I paid $6k CAD ($4800 USD) for mine with 150,000 miles (243,000 km)Your car is pretty awesome, I would love to make my car like yours, but up here I'd be lucky to sell that car for $10k CAD, simply because it's a Legacy and not a WRX. I know that modifying cars is always a losing proposition but I can't stomach that much loss these days.
Also, good choice on the VW, I've been looking at 2019 Sportwagens as they are available with under 30,000 kms for less than 23k CAD right now (unfortunately DSG is really all that's available, and most are white). Alltracks are not easy to find up here, even though it would be a slightly better ski car for the family.
-
You can gift it to me. I will cover the shipping. LOL. Good Luck with a beautiful wagon that was VERY well cared for and maintained over the years.
thanks for all the great work you did on that car when it was Jacob's. motor is still super strong, no oil consumption.
-
yeah, part of why I got out of the 911 was the fear of a $10k engine rebuild! My daily is an 86 4runner with a long travel suspension, so I can relate to how much fun and practical the truck is, especially out here in NM. So many places to explore. But then I take the wagon up my fave twisty roads and I get all the feels again.
Part of it is that the wagon is so quick, I don't drive it enough to feel super confident pushing it anymore
-
I spent a lot of time searching to find the Forester STI 6MT with the rare combo of stock long gears like the Spec b's and the F/R locking dif's.
And yes, the helmhotz resonator is pretty amazing. Paired with the Wagolis cans, its about as perfect an exhaust note as I would ever could hope for. No drone, amazing sound, and you can hear it when you need to.
Wish my 6-speed had the same long gearing as yours, this wagon is very nicely sorted. The "dual resonator" mid-pipe is also a rare find stateside. The second resonator is a helmholtz resonator that cancels out cruising drone. I have it on my wagon and I can attest that it makes a dramatic difference - more dramatic than any sound deadening or mass damper solutions I've tried. All in all, I paid more for less 6 years ago. -
Boxkita- that 2400lb 911 had a Carrera 3.2 motor with about 240 hp. it was pretty damn fun.
But yeah, I get it. And not so much worried about the value. It is the rareness of a 6MT wagon and all the days and days of work to get this car to where it is. So few stock parts left on it. Ha!
-
Heya fellow 4th gen'ers.
I'm seriously considering getting out of the LGT game after almost a decade two LGT's, an exhaustive list of aftermarket parts and (please don't count how much) $$$ sunk into this dirty dirty habit
My car is almost at it's ultimate form. You can check out my for sale feeler here. Just a JDM bumper, Spec B arms and a full flex fuel setup bought but not installed to make it the "perfect" build in my mind.
I have three other project cars, 4x4 van, fj60 land cruiser and a first gen 4runner (er trucks) a dirtbike habit, a 2 year old and a house building project all on the horizon. We also picked up a new 2019 VW Alltrack which is def satisfying my 6MT turbo wagon feels for a daily (I mean it could use another 100hp but gotta get the better half comfortable with me messing up a perfecting good brand new car, the madelorian line of "this is the way" isn't working yet).
I'm just worried that even if I get around to installing the final kit on the LGT, I'm not really going to drive it that much and won't be worth any more with it installed. Its also a bad habit, I'm still cruising croooooober and ebay looking for uber rare JDM parts I really don't need. I may just need to kick the habit once and for all?
But I'm also worried that I'll have regrets if I sell, because I know they aren't ever going to make another car like this. I sold my 1975 911 and have been kicking myself ever since, now they're too expensive to get another one.
I know, so many feels, but sorta of just need to talk it through, since you're the only ones that can truly understand.

Thanks Boxkita, means a lot coming from you

This is a borderline feeler, but thinking about getting out of the LGT game.
I have a chance to build a house and want to get as liquid as possible.
I also have a 2yo and I am trying to run three housing nonprofits at once, so I'm not doing a bunch of wrenching or driving lately.
This car is pretty well sorted, and I have all the final parts to make this already sick car even more radical, but no time to install them.
The car is road protuned by Cam Tuning @21 PSI and rips. No dyno but ass says low-mid 300's whp.

Not looking for any BS, don't need to sell, honestly don't really want to sell it.
But it's sitting and not getting the love it deserves right now.

Not looking for a penny lower or to split up the parts and car.
If nobody wants it, I'll shelf it until I can finish the build.

HMU.
Working on getting some pics uploaded to the site, but you know. invalid JPEG, PNG missing a security token. etc I'll try again later from my home computer.
Here's a google photo dump in the meantime.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/i6dBtRcSpAMBQJPW7
If someone is super serious, I'll get the car detailed and take some really detailed photos. Just can't put time into that unless someone is for real for real.
edit: I tried to upload photos again but I keep getting erros, photos meet criteria, size etc.

Quick update: I've had this midpipe on the car for about a year and a half. It's definitely mellow, no rasp or drone. It's pretty quiet at idle, but definitely more substantial than stock and still loud enough to hear the car when you get into it. I have it mated to Fujitsubo Wagolis cans which are on the quieter side themselves. I put them on at the same time so can't compare it to what was on there before. Overall its a high quality piece. Mine sits a bit low but I think it could have gotten a little bent in shipping. I just replaced the center hanger with a pipe clamp and it tightened it up to the car. Not sure the Helmholtz resonator is much different than just having a 18" resonator but this setup is definitely smoooooth sounding. One of these days I'll get a video up.
-
Rubber contracts when it's cold. I'd double check all the hose clamps when the car is cooled off.
This happened to me after a radiator change, it took a few retightening to get it all set.
-
Probably worth grabbing a cheap vag-com cable that can pull learning view. Its been years since I looked at it but I seem to remember there's a specific chip code that works with the learning view software. Feel like this is a must-have for all turbo legacys if you don't have other logging capability.
-
it has to learn idle after a reset but I've never had stalling occur.
pulling a learning view or logging would give you an idea if the fuel trims are really far off which would be an indication that something's wrong.
lots of potential causes like, dirty MAF, a small vac leak etc that could cause the unlearned idle to be too low to keep the car running.
-
I'm sure there is a wiring diagram somewhere but you should be able to figure this out pretty quickly with a multi-meter. just connect to the two terminals and press the rear washer button until you get a +12V or so on the meter. If it reads -12v the polarity is reverse. No voltage means its the front washer plug.
As for how to connect them. Cleanest would be to find a matching factory plug and solder that to your new water pump so you could revert later and your harness isn't messed with. Although you could get an aftermarket plug with both male and female and replace both.
These guys probably have what you need for a plug:
-
depending on what mounts you have, sometimes the bolts are pressed in and you can knock it out and replace with a normal nut/bolt combo
6mt forester sti swap

Big difference between this and the spec b is the locking diffs, spec b is open. Its definitely a pricey swap once you round up all the stuff but it was definitely worth it for the setup I had. I think I got the trans/dif axles for $3500 though. But make sure to do the math on a clutch, sti master cylinder, auto or spec b drive shaft, and rear axles. It adds up fast.
