I used a dremel with attachment A576. Use the fiberglass Reinforced Cut-Off Wheels instead of the drum sanding wheel that come with it. The attachment makes it very easy to adjust the height. Go back and forth when cutting and the line will be very straight. You will need about 2 wheels per edge. Very messy and very time consuming but it does cut good.

SeeeeeYa,
Can you post the plans online? If you just have hand drawn dimensions I can get them into AutoCad and share the drawing. I just need the lengths and hold locations.

Anyone know the part number for the U-Channel? Where is everyone getting it from?

I got the pleasure to replace my O rings today. I thought the front drivers side was impossible. I found it much easier with the air pump removed, the air pump bracket removed, and remove the bolt holding the metal shield (see yellow arrow below). The only way to put the O ring in is from the front (where the air pump used to be). Took 2 hrs.

Do you have a procedure?
Use a Tactrix V1.3 or a VAG-COM cable. FreeSSM does not work with Tactrix 2.0
If you don't have one, get a VAG-COM KKL 409.1 from Ebay.
I purchased this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290637412911?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Download FreeSSM: http://developer.berlios.de/projects/freessm/
If you have problem installing the software or want more info on FreeSSM see this thread: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/65-parts-accessories-performance/39426-freessm-complete-access-your-ecm-tcu.html
Click on the Clear Memory 2 button.

Vehicle: 05' LGT (5EAT)
My transmission is definately unique in my LGT. Ever since it has been getting colder, the Transmission has been shifting harder, especially going into 2nd & into 3rd. It shifted very smooth in the summer (when it was warm). I usually let it warm up for a few minutes & it still KICKS. Than after driving it for a couple miles & the tranny "warms" up, it smoothens out & goes back to normal. I have an old truck W/ 260k on the tranny & that doesn't shift as hard as my Subaru in the Winter. I think I may be selling my Subaru soon.
Try resetting the TCU. All you need is a cheap $15 Vag-com cable. Can't hurt.

for the 05-07?? (before canbus) you can use the vagcom and FreeSSM?? to reset the TCU
If you have a VAG-COM Cable you can also use FreeSSM on 07+ CAN bus TCU.
Today I reset my TCU on my 08LGT because of a slight jerk in 2-3 shift. No more jerk! I'll see how long this lasts. If it comes back, it's going to the dealer for the 16-72-07 Service Bulletin (Automatic Transmission Learning Control Procedure).
