  1. Just logged on after a while away, not like jail, more like work hell. And lo and behold, my beloved legacy GT dot com is BANANAS. What the hell. I am getting pretty crusty when a format change freaks me out like this. Sigh. Rant concluded. Hope everyone is well.

  3. On Friday night I picked up the LGT from the dealership where I had it towed in December after the 6mt decided to origami itself. After a surprisingly reasonable wait for parts, they put humpty back together. While it was in I had them do the timing belt/tensioner/water pump since it’s coming up on 12 yrs old, even though I’m only halfway there, mileage wise. And of course, I was able to demonstrate my knack for idiocy. Drove it away without rowing all the gears, so once I got to a highway and went to shift into 5th, no dice. Same for 6th. Called unhappily back to dealership, which I know they love right when they’re about to close, and made arrangements to bring it back in the morning. As I was limping up to the cabin my subconscious shifted into 5th without intending to, and there it was. Apparently the right side shift stop had moved to starboard at some point during the initial kerfuffle (I’m guessing) so when I was consciously shifting and moving over to the stop, I passed the 5th and 6th gates. Left a mea culpa voice mail for my service guy and then today I installed the Perrin shift stop and adjusted the other stop. All back to normal.
  4. Concur, that’s a good plan. At some point, after or during your adventure bumping up the power side, consider handling. A stiffer rear sway bar and other suspension improvements really help use and enjoy the power gains you’re seeking to achieve.
  5. Thanks everyone. Got the call this evening. Bent the input shaft, wrecked a bearing and a few washers/rings, and trashed the reverse synchro. Techs haven’t seen anything like it on this 6mt trans, but the good news is that it wasn’t as bad as they or I feared and it can be rebuilt. Parts availability is spotty but should have everything in by mid-Jan. Still going to be a pretty penny, but I can rationalize it give a few weeks and some bourbon. I am going to guess this was the delayed boom from a fuse that was lit several years ago when I was 2-wheel towed. Had to replace a diff then, but I am guessing the trans had damage that just decided to make an appearance.
  6. Put her on a flatbed to be towed to the dealer at 9 last night. Shifting from 5th to 6th accelerating away from a stop and heard the death wail of gears grinding. Coasted to the shoulder to see what’s what. Wouldn’t shift anywhere other than neutral right above 6th and into reverse. Not even any lateral travel in neutral so couldn’t get it to the 1-2 or 3-4 gates. Funny thing is, it would also shift straight down into 6th but the car read it as R. Dealer looked at it today and said they could tear it down to find the problem or just install a new trans; apparently there is one spare new 6mt in the US right now. Would be prohibitively pricey. So they’re tearing it down. We’ll see if the gamble pays off. Otherwise I’ll have a low-miles parts car (54k mi) to dispose of and will be looking for a new ride. Bummed. Will update once there’s a diagnosis.
  7. Whose red 5th gen LGT was headed east on VA Rt. 7 midday today, just west of Leesburg? Was heading west out to the cabin and audibly gave a “holy shit” in my surprise.
  8. Enjoyed a Fuente Work of Art. Very mellow and burned evenly. Perfect duration for a few glasses of bourbon.
  9. I’ve got a set of stock GT wheels with Michelin’s on them in the garage at the cabin. If you had any reason to be down around DC or the eastern panhandle of WV at any point, they’d be waiting for you.
  10. I did the Exedy Stg 1, OEM flywheel, Verus fork/pivot. Had Mach V do the work, came out to just over $1600 parts and labor. Original clutch was slipping in 5th and 6th at just around 50k in Nov last year so decided to pull the trigger. Happy with it so far, not much chatter at first, no smell, etc. There was a much different engagement point and springiness that I had to get used to, but all good now. Haven’t done the clutch damper delete. Yet.
  11. Not me either, driving the truck these last few weeks but heading out to the cabin tonight and will be bringing the LGT home so keep an eye out for a silver blur on the Dulles Toll Road Sunday evening. I did see a grey LGT out toward Winchester a few months ago (was going to say last winter but about froze my nards off at a little league game last night) but agree, very sparse 5TH gen sightings around NOVA.
  12. Nice. First car was an 85 LX 5.0. My dad bought it for me (which he regretted) while I was in high school. I was an idiot and damn near killed myself doing a Dukes of Hazard twist-and-flip into a creek with it. Would love to have that (potential) power to weight ratio again.
  13. Check Mach V - they show the catted J pipe on their site. might be out of stock if you add it to a cart, but who knows. https://www.fastwrx.com/collections/downpipes/products/invidia-j-pipe-downpipe-2010-2012-legacy-gt
  14. Tesla if you have a garage/parking situation conducive to overnight charging. Drove my buddy’s T3 and was impressed. The drag of the regenerative brakes would be useful in slow traffic if I was commuting at all under normal circumstances. Acceleration and handling were a lot of fun. Only thing I’d miss would be the manual trans (I’d be looking at the VW Golf R with the stick rather than the S3).
