  1. Driver weight also plays a role - so do all unnecessary weight - like a full tank.

That's true. I usually go to the track with about 1/4 tank left and I'm pretty skinny myself lol so no extra weight here ;) .

  2. The driver is a variable! Also from some reading I've done how you drive matters. The best times I got were with short shifting ( not riding the rpms out) to maintain peak power. Hopefully I'll make it a few more times this year and try and mess with the flat foot shifting and shift at set rpms to see if I can get consistent runs and from there see what the optimal rpm to shift at is. But that's pretty low on the list of things to do right now.

Driver is one of the biggest variables!

I need to test short shifting myself since car feels like it runs out of steam at high rpms.

I think my clutch cm fx350 is to blame for my last crappy times.

Here is my theory as to why.

    "IF" I remember correctly I ran;

    14.1 STOCK.

    13.5 Cobb STAGE 1 93 map

13.7 Cobb STAGE 2 93 map catted dp (At this point and time cm fx350 was already installed and broken in)

13.3 STAGE 2+ (CATLESS DP + TMIC + TUNE + HEADERS + EWG PLUMBED BACK IN still on fx350)

Everything was fine up until stage 1. After new clutch went it it appears that I forgot how to drive.

I go to the same track, drive the same way, and go when weather is in 50-60's.

    Thoughts?

  3. Based on what I have seen so far

    Stock = low 14

    Stage 1 = Mid to low 13

    Stage 2 = Low 13 to high 12

    Stage 2 + TMIC + Tune = High to mid 12's

Driver seems to be a variable here as well.

I should fix my old post.

Stock = Low 14 maybe maybe maybe very high 13's.

    Stage 1 = Mid to low 13

    Stage 2 = Low 13 to high 12

Stage 2 + TMIC + Tune = High 12's maybe maybe maybe high mid 12's.

    Stage 2 + TMIC + Tune + E85 = Mid 12's

If my assumptions are wrong please feel free to correct me.

  4. Subaru really left a lot on the table with this car, I'm highly considering getting a pro tune until I can save up for everything I want to do at stage 2.

Stock to Stage 1 (Cobb) is very noticeable Stage 1 to Stage 2 (Cobb) is a small difference. Stage 2 (Cobb) to pro tune is like whoa! ;) . Unfortunately I get used to power levels very quickly :( .

This was my fastest run today. Ran in bracket comp and came in second, got a total of 6 runs. My friend said the track temp was 89, I think ambient temp was around 80. Running COBB ots stage 1, 93 octane with K&N replacement filter and Invidia dual N1 cat back. Removed spare tire and the shield behind the grill to allow air flow directly into the duct. Running all season tires on stock wheels. Had launch control set at 5k rpms, not sure how much that helped or didn't as I realized I spaced out all day and never took traction control off :/ I was very impressed with the runs though, didn't think the car would be as fast as it is with an ots tune. I beat my friend in his '15 STI stage 2 when I ran against him. Only by 100th of a second but still a win in my book.

Nice! Had similar times on stage 1 ots map a while back.

  6. This. You could easily get that down to a 13.1 or 13.2, maybe lower with a Protune. The Cobb OTS Stage 2 is leaving a lot on the table and I believe it was developed using the stock TMIC, not an aftermarket one, which is where the restriction is in our cars.

I ran 13.5 on stage 1. Are these stage 2 times we are talking about?

  7. Looking for opinions. I have a little too much bounce with my RCE's and stock struts (particularly in the rear) so I'm looking for a new damper setup. I understand that any 2008 wrx coilover will fit our cars, correct? If that's the case, if you were to choose between Koni Yellows with RCE or H&R springs or KW V1's, which would you choose? I don't necessarily need adjustability if the ride is good out of the box. This will be street use only. Are there other better options i should look at? My price point is 1k - 1.5k.

Rce springs and bilsteins will bounce too. Thats what I have.

  8. Lower, more compliant, eliminating sway and stock shocks? Not gonna happen.

Austin2334 is just about to put Koni's in his with Eibach springs. It will be interesting to see what he says. I suspect the Koni's will be pretty good compliance wise with the Eibachs as long as they are set on full soft.

The H&R's I have paired with the Koni's are not what I would consider "compliant" on bad pavement because they are pretty stiff springs and I have the Koni's about half way up on the firm scale to control the springs properly on rebound. Personally this doesn't bother me as I was looking for stiff and firm and our roads here are pretty good.

Lower is not a must have but a nicer ride would be. Not floaty boaty like stock but not quite rce black / bilstein combo.

Dont get me wrong I love the rce blacks and bilstein setup when on good quality roads. Its just that I'm not on those a lot.

I dont mind stiff but if loads are not perfect this combo I currently have is is rough ....

Bumps make your head bounce of the headrest with unbelievable skill especially when its cold. Speaking of bouncing there is too much of it. Passengers can't text on their phones LOL!

What causes the swaying at highway speeds? Shocks or springs or both?

  9. I have over 3K miles on mine. They do get more compliant and softer however I travel mostly on highways so my experience may not be a good comparison. Yes, the suspension is stiffer going over rough roads (as with any car with a sport suspension). 300 miles is not enough to make a solid judgement. It takes at least 1K miles for the break-in period.

Maybe you should have stuck with the stock set up if it's too rough for you.

Take a look at the Bilstein review thread for more info.

These my initial impressions. First 100 miles were brutal I had to move the headrest to a much higher position and radar detector had to be readjusted every 10 minutes because suctions cups would lose grip lol.

Now that I have had it for few weeks I'm slowly getting used to it.

Stock suspension sucked. I'm glad I made the change.

Every time I drove it on hwy and wind blew I thought the car will fly off the road .... It scared the crap out of me most of the time.

New suspension travels beautifully on smooth highways however these are hard to come by in Illinois. I mostly drive in the city and I'm used to these imperfections by now.

I should have gotten an STI ;) .Time for more go fast mods too bad selection is limited.

  10. So close but yet so far. I really couldnt believe how little my car would hook up. I know it was cold about 47 degrees, but I was spinning all over the place. Best 60ft is 1.80 despite the spin, and best trap of nearly 104.91 :) Very impressive for an off the shelf tune! Cant wait for a new clutch and a protune or perhaps some E85.

Overall, best run of the night was a 13.066.... So close!!! Attached are the times and I am 663.

I see you ended up going. Nice!

  11. no FFS for me, haven't really felt like messing with it. Maybe in the spring when I try to beat my 12.9...

I think I bumped into your 12.9 run on youtube when I was researching stage 2 ;P . Did you post it here on the forums? I probably missed it.

I was also looking up 2011 bmw 335i cobb stage 2 and I think with exhaust and dp theu are running mid to low 12's ouch ...

I'm debating on stage 2 and dp myself :)

  12. Didn't wait for a tune, decided to give it another shot tonight

    1st pass tonight

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/Rutch/CarPics/LGTdrag9-14-11_12-967.jpg

    2nd pass...

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v307/Rutch/CarPics/LGTdrag9-14-11_12-934.jpg

    Yay 12's! :)

Your 60 ft in that 2nd run was very close to mine (see my other post from today).

  13. So I went to the track again this time with stage 1 93 cobb map and the already installed borla cbe ;P

3 runs total best to date was 13.547 @ 102.06 with a 1.775 60 ft I didn't really want to beat up the car so I was launching between 3-4k.

  14. Manual transmission cars dont launch on boost.

My terminology could be wrong but I was trying to find a sweet spot RPM wise.

Too low and the car will bog too.

I just need to time the gas pedal mashing and letting go of the clutch smoothly so it takes off at proper rpms without rpms dropping or dropping too much.

    For example :

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj9mKMpan4s]STi Stock Turbo 0-60 3.8secs. - YouTube[/ame]

I can't launch like this. His rpm's go up, stay up, and the car just takes off.

  15. Went to the track again after a borla cbe install and my best 2 runs were 14.057 @ 98.37 with a 1.877 60 ft and 14.043 @ 98.78 with a 1.896 60ft.

For some reason I felt like my launching wasnt good and I wasnt launching on boost. Need more practice in this area.

Best run while stock was 14.144 @ 97.71 with a 1.903 60ft so there were some gains in mph and 1/4 times.

Time to get cobb ap stage 1 :)
