  1. Spent some time with Tasker and added a music widget on top of Waze that automatically hides when I interact with it. Just like the stock nav would hide the clock and temp display to get them out of the way when you touched the screen.

Did you get your tablet talk to work?

  2. Finally got all set up in my Subaru.

    - I'm using an OBDII Bluetooth adapter to get the car's data into the Torque app.

    - When the tablet resumes, Tasker resumes the music automatically and launches Waze. This can be changed to do whatever I want.

    - For the gestures, I have GMD which allows me to do next/previous using swipes. A pinch takes me home.I need to play with this more and add more gestures.

    - I have other gestures through Nova Launcher: two finger swipe up brings up the app drawer, two taps brings up Google Now, two finger swipe down launches the quick settings panel.

    - To get data, I am tethering from my Nexus 5. When the tablet turns on, it connects to the Nexus 5 over Bluetooth, and this triggers the WiFi Hotspot as well as Tablet Talk. When the Nexus 7 disconnects, Tasker turns the WiFi hotspot off and disables Tablet Talk.

    - The audio is being sent to the original headunit from a USB DAC at the 3.5mm Aux jack in the armrest through a very short audio cable. This pretty much eliminates ground loop noise. Using the original HU, I keep steering wheel volume control. If I add a Joycon EXR, I can enable a whole range of remote control through the steering wheel buttons, so this will be a future project.

    - Tablet Talk lets me see incoming calls, and make calls through my phone, and the audio is handled by the Parrot Bluetooth kit that has been in the car since I got it.----> I still need to figure out a way to enable Google Now to dial from the tablet, right now it tells me this device is not capable of making calls. <------I can make calls from the Tablet Talk interface

Could you set up a Tasker command using gnow? Or use utter in conjunction with Tasker to achieve this? Just a thought

  3. Looks promising? No you idiot i'm using it for the last 2 months. It works.

I'm technically banned from the forum so that last bit of research you will have to do yourself. But if you read I said i have it working with my factory camera.

No running wires? So where does it get power for when you engage reverse? Backup lights?

  4. How would I make a car PC using a cell phone and a Small display?

I mostly want it for when I am traveling and sleeping in the back of my wagon in the summer. You know like I can have the display mounted above the dash and then disconnect it and move it to the cargo hatch of the car. I was thinking I can power my phone the way i do now off the DC outlet and then the monitor off the other DC outlet or with a inverter. I can run a micro HDMI cable from my phones loc to my monitors loc and then I just need a hookup for a keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard. Maybe the monitor should be touchscreen as well?

anybody done anything like this? seems like it might be easier and cell phones are getting pretty powerful nowadays.

My droid 4's specs are thus

    TI OMAP4430

    Processor:Dual core, 1200 MHz, ARM Cortex-A9

    Graphics processor:PowerVR SGX540 @ 304 MHz

System memory:1024 MB RAM / 16384 MB ROM

    Built-in storage:8 Gb

Storage expansion:microSD, microSDHC up to 32 GB

    Battery

    Talk time:12.50 hours

    the average is 12 h (746 min)

    Stand-by time:8.5 days (204 hours

    the average is 21 days (494 h)

    Capacity:1785 mAh

I don't think you would have much luck controlling a phones touch screen via your monitor. Honestly, based on what you want your best two options would either be a tablet or a monitor and chrome cast or something similar. You can get a second Gen nexus now for like 150 refurbished.

  5. There is a 8 or 9 second imprezza with a 4 eat with the rwd/4wd mod on YouTube somewhere.

However I don't know if its the 4eat vdc model that has a center diff very similar to the 5eat. Or if its a regular 4 eat.

I do have a 4 eat at home I could pull apart and look into it but I can't say when I can get to it as I am backed up on other projects already.

So to clairify a 4 eat vdc model can have this mod.

    Regular 4 eat I don't know yet

Thank you kind sir. My fiancee has a FXT so I might look into this when we buy her a new car and I use the FXT as a daily driver.

I've been saying this for years. Some thoughts way back to the SVX days with the EJ33.

My thing is, why not built a BIG ute or a pickup truck?

I keep getting stuck having to buy the Big-3 when it comes to trucks. Yeah, the new Tundras are pretty awesome. OK, the 3 American diesels are fun, but all have weaknesses and can break and cost you as much or more to repair than buying a Legacy GT outright... especially if you had it modded to hell and destroy it under warranty, Ford/GM/Dodge tell you to go F yourself.

So, Subaru needs to build a light-duty pickup with the STi EJ257 type power with option for 3.6,

then a medium duty p/u that has a 3.6L turbo, and for the love of all things considered good in the universe, a big nasty Boxer turbodiesel!!!

I will buy one without even seeing it, looking at the interior, etc.

Then, there's the sleeper wagon that Subaru needs to build again. Granted, they went a different direction with the 2010+ Legacy/Outback, but why not make a lower wagon that is ready to roll with the rest of the fast crowd? The 3.6 is nice and smooth, but maybe I just don't know enough about the long-term results so far with the 2010+ with the turbo relocated to the front/lower instead of being in the hot-cave behind the #3 cylinder.

    So, FTW...

Subaru 1000 pickup with 2.5 STi guts with front/lower turbo position, big FMIC and big ram air intake stock, RWD option selectable. Choose beefy 5EAT or 6MT. Option engine is the 3.6 beefed up for some more power due to intake/exhaust.

Subaru 2000 pickup with 3.6 turbo motor, and I mean a big VGT turbo or something that will provide the grunt early but sing up top. Get with the big boys who are making 6, 7 and 8 speed ATs nowadays (umm, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the ecodiesel or whatever they're calling it?). Honestly this truck could probably be the size of a regular Chevy 1500 or F-150. But don't leave out a built 6MT as an option, maybe with a granny low gear too and/or ridiculous OD top cog. Optional engine would be an H6 turbodiesel?????

Subaru Outback GT wagon, call it spec.C orjust make it an STi that is big enough to actually take camping/vacation please? This is why the 5-door WRX/STI is not in my garage already, and could never be based on dogs and family size.

While I'm at it? Bring back a mid-size of GT Touring coupe. I still think the 2.5RS body was the best rally-inspired-looking car they ever brought to the USA. Just my favorite Subaru based on looks alone. But that's just me. Make it an STi coupe version instead? Or just contract with Holden for the body and put a Subaru driveline config in the Commodore/GTO or whatever hahaha

Oh, if I had the time to build a fabbed car like this.

Sorry to get OT on the Buick... while I've seen the old 241's in Jeeps all over the place, the 3.8 Turbo in various configs is a great motor and I wish I would've seen this post about 3 years ago!

They kinda did with the baja. IMO, they just didn't make the baja good enough looking to sell it. I would love to have a baja as a DD, they are just still really pricy for what they are. I just can't justify their prices for the age. Anyway, I do agree. I still want a Maloo. But sadly, I'm in america where we are stuck with the idiot Big three that refuse to import the full holden line. Same with ford and the falcon.

  7. well the basis is i removed the center differential.

any 5 eat could do that with the center diff removed.

so now the car has 100/100 torque split. front being limited to the maximum torqu of the transfer clutches. that probably being about 1000 ft lbs as is.

but considering the torque leaving the trans mission being nearly 3000 ft lbs currently.

as for brake standing next to a garage .. uh meh .. i did huge smoke shows with my camaro while parked with 1 car in front about 2 feet away and cars on either side.. good old line lock !

Frank, could the 4speed in the fozzys do this as well? Or is this just a mod limited to the 5eat?

  8. Selling the car for? or selling the bezels for?

My UOAs are consistently showing abnormally high wear, especially in the piston rings and the block. I'm thinking its got the infamous ringland failure. Plus I want a 5-speed :)

The car. But you already answered.

  9. Well, I guess I won't be getting those cheapy grip pads. I emailed them yesterday and they said they will resend send them since it's been like 2 and a half weeks since I ordered. I would say just go with the grippy pad since it's a known quantity if you want to follow my poor man's setup.
  10. No problem. Before spending like 15 dollars on the grippy pad, wait like a week. I have some cheap knockoffs of the grippy pad coming that I paid like 3 dollars for, and I will report back with the results on whether they are worthwhile. Plus it takes like a week to get the grippy's in from the UK. Which is the only place I have been able to find "grippy" brand.
  11. ^ could you provide a 'profile' picture where we can actually see how the N7 holds in place on that grippy pad?

Have you tried to do a couple hard pull and see if it moves a bit?

Yes, I'll see what I can do for a profile pic when I get home. But it is actually a very tacky pad that it "sticks" to. If you click the link from where I bought it, they actually took an iPhone and mounted it 90 degrees to the ground on a parking lot gate and raised then raised and lowered it.

Also, I usually floor it getting on the interstate and it didn't come loose on the 4 off ramps I used. But if you do get one, make sure you wet it down and dry it before putting the tab on it. If you don't, it won't make a good tacky connection.

  12. The lazy persons N7 install.

Sorry, I didn't realize how bad this one turned out. But I was just showing the difference between the "Desk Clock" and Gmusic.

If you do this, I would highly recommend wiping the grippy pad off with water before each use. If you have bought a grippy pad you'll understand what I mean. It causes the pad to regain it's stickyness. I just drove 250 miles twice with it attached this way to the cubby lid and didn't have a single problem.

  13. I just wish I'd had the foresight to set up an extra unlimited plan when I could have.

I'm still very interested in the Nexus build, though. It seems like it would work pretty well.

Couldn't one just use auto tether or Tasker to start tethering when it connects to blue tooth? I know I just tether my n7 when I put it in my car. Obviously, I don't have a nice set up like these guys, but it works great for gps when I need it.

  14. Sweet!! You'll probably want to get some right-angle cables for clearance. I also had to angle my connectors up a bit so the cables didnt get snagged when I was pushing the assembly into place.

As for keeping the screen on indefinitely on power - it's located in the developer settings. If you're on 4.2.2 you have to actually enable the developer settings as they hid it from the average user. As I recall you have to go to 'about device' and click on the build number 7 times and it unlocks it.

You mean 4.2.1? Or 4.1.2? I haven't seen a 4.2.2 update yet. I'm not saying that I couldn' t have possibly missed, but I don't see anything online about 4.2.2 either.
