That's the thing, I did, and the only thing I saw was an old post from Torque New speculating about the demise of the Legacy.

If the Legacy is done for, I would wish for a Levorg STI. Maybe a plug-in hybrid version.  But a plug-in Levorg is like the news of the demise of the Legacy. It does not exist.

Look up one post- the Legacy wasn't cut.

  2. Naw we got the point and it you are better off buying instead of leasing... just be diligent on your searching and you will find a good car.

I just wrote a check for $9200 to buy a 2010 outback 3.6R with 140K on it. did some minor repairs and I am sill under $10K for the car...

My last car I paid $23K for it and I put down $7K, paid $3K the first month using the proceeds from the sale of my 2002 Acura CL-S, and made the final payment 10 months later. (the payment for my $14 legacy was $312 a month).

the 2003 Legacy that I bought in 2014 for $3K for, $5K to fix and 80K later it is still running fine...

It would be nice if I had the time. My son goes to a magnet high school 45 minutes away- no bus, so every day I don't have a car for him equals me driving to and from.

  3. Thanks guys, I think everyone was missing the point, this was a vehicle I never planned on keeping, it was to get two kids through high school driving.

I've searched pretty far and the used cars that come in around the same price as the lease payments aren't that great and then I'm stuck trying to sell something that wasn't that great 3 years earlier. I also have to worry about if it breaks down while I'm on a business trip.

  4. Selling these since the Legacy was totaled. Trying here first because it makes more sense to sell as a complete package vs. splitting all apart.

Everything except the JDM bezel is new as of June when we gave this to my son as a B-Day present.

The bezel has been in the car since about 2012. There is very minor wear on the front edge.

So you're getting everything you need to drop it into a Legacy.

The connections are soldered and heat shrunk.

    $400 for everything plus shipping/Paypal.

  5. What year is the Impreza by chance? I wonder how much of a difference the age can affect the pricing compared to the Legacy.

2019 Sport Sedan- feel like it's fate. Found it last night and it's the last year the Sport Sedan comes in a stick. Doesn't hurt that because it's a 2019 and a stick that no one wants, got a great deal on it which lowered the lease payments even more.

So strange that the 2020 Sedan is CVT only, but the hatch can be had in stick.

  6. So any advice on a lease? So much to read.

Long story short, we normally buy and keep vehicles until they die.

That was the plan with the 2011 Legacy until a deer totaled that plan.

The Legacy only needed to last 3 more years until daughter went to college.

So instead of buying a beater, for about the same money we're leasing a Impreza for 36 months /10K.

Never leased, so trying to learn fast since I found a 2019 stick, and put a deposit down to hold it.

  7. did you show them all of the work done to the car?.... sorry to hear it is totaled but it is a 10 year old car and the fix to value is not favorable.

one option is you could buy it back and then fix it.

Went through the numbers and at this point doesn't make sense. It would still be a 2011, and we were only keeping until daughter goes to college.

After looking at the used market for a manual around here, we decide to do a 3 year lease on an Impreza Sport 5 door manual.

The payment come out roughly the same as the payout on the Legacy. It's under warranty until we're done with it.

  8. There was a member named bronconia I think. He was a salesman. Just about any internet sales department has access to regional inventory and most dealers will trade allocations or vehicles to get you what you want. Are your vehicle wants that specific? I have had good luck just searching local dealer sites and filtering the choices through their site. Vehicle searching has come a long way in the last few years.

Yea, Impreza manual Sport hatchback. So far searched 20 something dealers and only found 2, so I'd like to broaden the search without taking hours.

Our Legacy was the same way, none in our area since it's a combo most people don't want.

I'd like to work through the dealer that has them, I find most times I can get a better deal. When you ask for a dealer transfer, then they know you want the car and it seems like they won't work as hard to get your money.

  9. Anyone know a forum member that is a salesperson?

Back when we bought the Legacy, there was a guy that helped us find it. He could do a broad search instead of me going dealer by dealer.

He found us 2 of we were looking for that were 3 and 4 hours away. That would have taken forever on Subaru's site.

  10. Timing Belt should be really easy to do with a 2.5i while doing the front support. Pretty much remove the serpentine belt, crank pulley and timing covers, then just doing the timing belt, tensioner, idlers and water pump....

I think you misunderstood, for blue book value of ours, all I'm finding are vehicles that still need t-belts done and ? history as far as head gaskets.

Since all that has been done recently to ours, it sucks because we'd be out a ton if it's totaled.

  11. Sorry to hear about that. Was your son ok?

Son is fine, scared the shit out of him though.

    The good:

    -Fenders look untouched

-Car is older, lots of aftermarket/used parts available from a body shop perspective, so the repair may not cost as much as you'd think like it would for a newer car

    The bad:

-As stated above, radiator core support. That's a big one there.

-Looks like some damage to the condenser, if it is bent youre looking at $500 or so just in terms of AC work. Insurance company will write up a used AC condenser around 50 bucks, then evac, recharge, and labor associated with remove and replace.

I think it may be close but I think they will total it unfortunately. I am a claims adjuster, I deal with this stuff daily. My advice would be to CLEAN the interior really well asap before someone comes out to take a look at it. Interior is graded based on carpets, seats, headliner, and dashboard. Most of the time they will just take photos of the driver's carpet and the driver's seat, so make sure to scrub out any salt stains in the carpet and such. Half an hour of cleaning can net you hundreds more. The condition adjustments can make significant changes in your settlement. Additionally, gather up any and all receipts of work you've put into it recently (recently being within the last 2 years or so). Make sure your adjuster gets all of that and they "should" take it into considerations. Additionally, never accept the total loss settlement without asking for and reviewing the market valuation report first.

If you have any questions about it, shoot me a PM. I'd even be willing to look over the valuation and make sure everything is fair in my opinion before you accept a payout. Who is your insurance company?

We talked to our agent, her husband used to be an adjuster and said the same thing. Since the t-belt, wp and idlers were done last dec and the head gaskets this summer, he said is a good chance it might not.

Already have a bunch of cars on the list in case it is.

Just wondering, I know this is the 5th gen section, but I found a clean 2008 OB XT manual, what do I look for with the 4th gen turbos?

  12. Sorry to hear. The radiator support looks to be damaged and is welded in. Hopefully it isn't totaled but it could be close.

On the flip side if it is totaled, you could always buy another one. It is nice to have a car that you know the service and maintenance history of, but they aren't that hard to maintain. As long as the oil was changed regularly, it is probably isn't the end of the world to catch up on a 100k mile or so vehicle.

yea, but for the prices I'm seeing, I'll need a T-belt job and the ? on head gaskets. Depending on what they come back with, I may just buy it back and have the work done if they total it. Car is staying in family until it dies, so I don't care about a salvage title.

  13. Age and the safety features available on new vehicles are a big part, but I also picked the LGT as a compromise of a bunch of wants and needs of mine: commuter, reliable, fun, capable on dirt roads, and some others. Now I'm in a part of my life where my needs and wants have changed some, and I'm thinking about not compromising as much. That said, it's actually very hard to think of parting with it. It's a good car and it really does just about everything that I ask of it. One option I am considering is to get a new Outback 2.5i Premium and just go all out on the LGT. I'd have a reasonable and capable daily in the OB, and a manual AWD fun car in the LGT. IDK though, I go back and forth a lot.

Luckily I have decided to not buy anything until 2020, so I have lots of time to figure it out.

We had a 2.5i Outback loaner, while I've always been happy with our Legacy- I think 99.9 % of that comes from being a manual.

A week with the 2.5 OB confirmed for us that getting the 3.6 in the wife's 2019 OB was definitely the right move.
