  1. This is still my first stop when I need to research or find something (I’m here this morning to see when I did the LGT brake swap on the obxt and my posts here are faster to search than my records from years ago).

But it’s been a long time since I was an active member of these forums. And I don’t even know how many years since I last logged onto AWDPirates. I don’t have the book of faces but I do agree that it plays a huge role in the decline of forum use. That and craigslist.

I notice that gaming forums are still well trafficked and active, even as automotive forums languish. I imagine Discord is the harbinger of death for those though.

I was active on here when your tuning business was brand new cryo, and I’m glad to see you still around. Same for you Mike, I hope all is well at 5250.

  2. So I’m spending Christmas replacing the PS pump in my ‘06 OBXT and instinctively came here for tips, tricks and warnings. It made me nostalgic for the time years ago when I was an active member of these forums.

I wanted to make a point of making this thread to thank all of the members who have kept things going, helping the Subi community. And a big shoutout to @Tide and the donators for keeping the site live to host this treasure trove of archived information.

Thank you all, and may you never have to spend Christmas tracking down parts and fluids so you can get to work in the morning (after 2 days of Ubering to work because nobody had your pump in stock and here are no rental cars because they’re all reserved by holiday travelers  )

    Cheers,

    Lucid

  3. The Jazzy solution is dependent on using a silent cd. It is not a blank cd but a disc with a single, long track of silence.

There are options for getting an Aux in without using the silent cd. They are not as easy or as popular as the Jazzy solution, but have their own benefits. Search the audio subforum for more info.

  4. Received my kit today. Kudos to you Mike. These are some of the most comprehensive and complimentary instructions to ever grace a kit that I have seen. If anyone screws this up it won't be because of lack of instruction.

    ~Cheers~

Tis true, the instructions are very detailed. Great job, and thanks again. I hope to get this done this weekend.

  5. Did my right-front today. Not terribly difficult. This write-up was considerably more useful than the service manual, thanks OP.

I did have a bitch of a time removing the axle nut, it just laughed at my impact gun and all other attempts. The solution was an idea from the first page of this thread: remove the center cap, put the wheel back on, drop and block the car, stand-jump on the breaker bar to loosen the nut. If I had done that from the beginning I would have saved more than an hour....

I suspect that the axle nut was seriously over-torqued by the mechanics used by my body shop, after an accident I had last winter.

  6. Friday update: I went to the machine shop this morning to drop off the material for production. Long story short is that they "misquoted" me for the job and tried to raise the price by over 500%--had to walk away

Never fear, another shop is here! I had another shop lined up just in case and have been in contact with them this morning to begin work in the middle of next week. I'm confident that they will provide a very high quality product.

The good news? ETA for the kits being completed may actually move up a bit! Next update will likely be after the material is at the shop.

Big thanks to those who have prepaid for their kits, it definitely helps with the up-front cost--looking forward to sending out the first kits in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the update. Good move having a back up machine shop already lined up.

  7. FML! Definitely a bad GLI. Hooked it up to my home receiver and definitely no good for right hand sound. Can get it to come in and out.

Any ideas on a quick fix?

    Thanks!

That sucks! No ideas for a fix tonight, which is probably what you're looking for, but you can get one from Radio Shack for ~$20.

  8. Did anyone find the aux volume quieter than the regular stereo? I'm using my old Droid Eris as a player for the aux, and I find it about half the volume as it should be. But it's clear as day, which is nice. Just wondering if its my mp3 player that is the limitation.

When using the 30-pin iPod connector the volume is fine. When using the 3.5mm jack it is a bit quieter. I've had a series of rental cars lately, and have found that they are all quieter with a device attached to an aux in line with a 3.5mm, so I think that's common, even normal.

  9. I saw it came with the 3.5mm, but I want a 2nd 3.5mm input as well so I can plug both my ipod and a sirius/xm receiver (a portable one) in it.. of course though not use them at the same time. Can you use a splitter for something like that?

EDIT: Oh wait on the jazzy ipod connector, do you not have to plug the 3.5mm jack into the ipod? hell if that's the case then what am i worrying about? LOL

No, you don't have to plug the 3.5 into the iPod, the pro kit comes with an iSimple cable to connect and charge your iPod/iPhone, the 3.5 can be used to hook up anything else. I've used it for my laptop and a portable DVD player.

I tape it up while it's not in use, because I found it transmits some static when it rubs against stuff bouncing around in my console.

  10. Electronics isn't my strong point.. so here goes my question..

I know you can have a splitter to split a 3.5mm jack, but what if you want to have two inputs on the same 3.5mm jack, but not use them at the same time?

One for iPod, and then one for an external satellite radio?

I may be misunderstanding your question, but my Jazzy kit allowed for the included iPod cable and 3.5mm to both be hooked up. I have both cables run to the console, and can switch between them at will.

Hope that helps, sorry if it doesn't.
