Update: I have given up on VAG-COM and I just ordered a Taxtrix 2.0 from tunertools.com. Used the coupon code "Romraider" for 5% off, so it came to $160 and change shipped.

 

I tried my VAG-COM cable on an older XP machine and it still didn't work. I do not recommend this cable to anyone.

 

I would lean toward user error...not to single you out...but several on here are using it successfully.

 

It took me about 5 minutes to install software, hook up cable and be in my car logging.

Probably not. The VAG-COM cable communicates with the Subaru ECU via the K-line (half-duplex mode). According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics#OBD-II_Signal_Protocols Ford uses different signalling and pins (2 & 10) in the ODB-II connector.

 

Thanks for that link. It looks like it is using 3&10. So, VAG-COM cable only really reads the K-line and not all of the pins, huh? For some reason I figured it read all pins but only the appropriate pins would actually be hot from our cars so it would know what type of car it is.

 

I guess I will have to tell him to look elsewhere.

Does anyone know if the VAG-COM cable works with any OBDII car?

 

I have a coworker who wants to log his pickup (2003 Ford F150) because he saw me looking at DeltaDash and started asking questions and got jealous when I told him it cost me only $12.

That's why I always choose US sellers with product located in the US. Paid Sunday, had it Thursday. Cost a few dollars more but worth it to me.

 

Got it today...figures. I should have waited one more day to rant. Came from Hong Kong but got here in one piece. Now I just need to determine if I want to take it for a spin now or later!

How long does it take to get the damn cable? I ordered from "smooth-dealer" on ebay and paid on March 2nd! 17 days and still no cable! I am getting impatient!

I think 2007+ all use CAN Bus.

Is there a list somewhere on this site or in this forum that shows me which cars work with which cable? How do I know which car has CAN Bus? I thought the research I was supposed to be doing was on this forum?

I have a 2006 LGT...which cable do I need? It would be nice if the first post was updated with which models could use this cable instead of being condescending and saying we should already know if we are reading this thread...that just doesn't help anyone.
