    Chrome housing, permanently yellowed, looks kind of like a smokers window. It never looks very good even after polishing, I think there's internal yellowing.

  3. I've been struggling with this for a few years. I finally resoldered the R1 earlier this year and it seemed to help for a while. But it came back recently once temps were consistently below 50 degrees. So I decided to finally install the spare I had swiped from the junkyard and hope it works. Well, turns out the connector doesn't fit. I'm pretty sure I got it from a 2008. So then I gave up and decided to order one. Though now it seems like it is discontinued. So the only way to get a replacement is to get a used one. And, after another trip to the junkyard today I now suspect 2007 was a 1 year only connector. I tried a 2005 and a 2008 today and neither work.

     

    It's frustrating that such an integral part of the SRS is getting so hard to find. I'd hate to see some of these cars heading to the scrapper for such a silly part.

  4. Obviously cares not for the health of the front lip.

     

     

    I believe it is of the Home Depot variety, so should be fairly easy to replace as needed. Probably at least saving the leading edge of the bumper cover.

     

    There were a couple interesting lettering choices, like the R on the fender and some others on the gate, but otherwise it looks like a very clean and well kept survivor.

  5. I got the dash replaced on my '07 and my wife had her '09's done when she still had it. I've always used a sun shade as well but she didn't.

     

     

     

    Now, over the last year or so, the air bag in the steering wheel is getting sticky. And in that time it's spent about 60% of the time under a car cover.

    I poked around the Shell site last night and came to the same conclusion. No coupon if you buy from Napa.

     

     

    I also did the math and this particular deal saves you $0.30/gallon (after 6% sales tax in VA) instead of buying it from Walmart 1 gallon at a time. Definitely not worth the hassle of dealing with a huge, heavy bucket of oil. I would happily pay $1.50 to not have to have that space taken up.

  7. I finally put in new headlights after having one for nearly 3 years and the other for over a year. The change is pretty dramatic for me, I'm so used it it with all chrome. Part of why I procrastinated so long was because I wasn't sure I'd like these.

     

    I also tried to do Lamin-X (the larger reason for procrastinating), and be sure to look out for me selling the passenger side skin soon. So, after spending $62 to toss the driver's side in the trash, I have determined it's not a skill I command. It doesn't help that the tint place I used refused to do it for me last year.

     

    So I guess I should get used to spending $700 on headlights every few years.

  8. Landark, haven’t ever seen the stock wheels look so good. Mine were beat up when I got my 07. And I have that same cell phone magnet. While wifey drives a Forester touring. All that to say you’ve got great taste. What tail lights are those? JDM outbacks?

     

     

    Thanks! None of the wheels are the ones that came with the car. I think I've replaced them all at least once. Most of them had some imperfections, some a bit minor, but I want them to look perfect - or reasonably close. I just put them back on over the weekend as they have summer tires on them. I run 18s in the winter to get a little more ground clearance. So that helps keep them looking decent too. My wife's had lots of pitting around the center caps.

     

     

     

    And Febreze is right, they're USDM '08 Outback tail lights. They were one of the very first things I did once I got it.

  9. I realized that I haven't really taken any pictures of it outside of my driveway since 2010. Never mind that these were taken in the same shopping center as that last time.

     

     

    I washed it and did a quick wax job so I can put the cover back on until my neighbor's tree stops dropping helicopters.

     

    The light wasn't great as the sun was setting so I messed around with the editing settings.

  10. That is not my car, but you are my neighbor. I live next to the Dulles Town Center. Legacy is still on the operating table...

     

     

    Have I seen you tooling around before it went under the knife? I live behind the movie theater in the Safeway shopping center.

     

     

     

    A month or two ago I saw another modified blue LGT wagon driving on Route 7. I ended up right behind him and we acknowledged each other as I passed while he ducked into that shopping center.

     

    Probably going to the vape store. Amirite?

     

     

     

    The one I parked next to in the photo has Sport brand, what I assume are, winter wheels on, though I may be wrong about that. It has an Atlantic Blue tailgate garnish on the back and an exhaust but is indeed largely stock looking. I didn't think to check if it was a stick until I left. Though anyone who checks my car will be disappointed so I try not to impose those feelings on others.

     

     

    AND! a few weeks ago there was ANOTHER LGT wagon in that parking lot. Though the more I think about it, the more I think it might be the same blue one. It might be someone who works there.

     

     

    And c'mon: But I rarely see a GT. Maybe with spring more will come out.

    Buys AWD car, refuses to drive it in the snow. Well, actually, guilty. I no longer want to drive it even in the rain. Like it's some sort of valuable collectible. But as it is back to "daily" duty, it has to get driven in all conditions. "Daily" meaning I've driven it 800 miles in the last 12 months.

  11. I just picked up my car from the dealer after taking it in for the second dashboard airbag recall. I was very pleased to see my hazard button actually worked (since it didn't after the last one nor after my wife had hers done). So I pulled out of the service bay and pulled over to set up the stereo where much to my surprise the SRS was already on. Then I noticed it was already on AUX, and then that all my radio presets were still saved.

     

     

    It was obvious that the battery wasn't disconnected and I am well aware of the dangers of working on an airbag with a power source. So it leaves me wondering if anything was actually done. Is it possible that they are now just pulling the fuse to isolate the airbag with these? I know they've probably gotten the process down to a science now, do they just not worry about it and unplug and plug in a live airbag?

  12. Thanks folks. The Impala (nicknamed Land Ark) is definitely big. The first thing we did when looking at houses was measure the garage to make sure it would fit. This one barely made it with almost 2 feet to spare. That said it is NOT very space efficient inside. The back seat is actually kinda of cramped. It has about as much leg room as my Lexus in back.

     

     

    I mentioned how the Legacy was my dream car, I had been lusting after it ever since playing Gran Turismo 2. I really appreciate the 2nd gen and I wouldn't be opposed to buying an imported GT-B. But how everything came together for the 4th gen made it impossible for me to pass up. I only wish I could have afforded a new one at the time.

  13. Boo, come back to the legacy GT lyfe Bro lol . lexus looks nice but looks boring to drive. I mean my 2010 DD ford Taurus is boring also but my legacy will be fun to drive. I can't have stock cars only anymore.

     

     

     

    I haven't left the Legacy Lyfe, not yet anyway. In fact, I am going to be taking it in to get gauges installed in the cubby at some point this month. I have gotten so lazy that while I still have the itch to modify cars, I can't get myself motivated to do it myself. So as punishment, I force myself to pay someone else to do it. As a notorious cheapskate, this kills me. But the lazy part has been winning for a while now.

     

     

    The Lexus is ideal for my almost entirely straight 12 mile highway commute to and from work. I can drive it and not worry one iota about it, unlike my constant panic that something is going to happen to the Legacy.

     

    Wow, you change cars a lot. I have underwear that I've had for longer then you keep some of your cars.

    How's that GTO ?

     

     

     

    It really doesn't seem like that many cars until I put it together like that. I haven't owned just one car since I was 17 in 1996 and it has really added up over the years.

     

     

    The GTO taught me one important lesson. That 400 horsepower is too much. 300 is plenty. It has been dead reliable with only maintenance needed aside from a torn center bushing in the driveshaft. I drive it on nice sunny days spring through fall. I have it exactly where I want it too. I think it's a really nice design that has held up over the years and I got it because it was different. It is getting to the point where some things need freshening, like the headlights should probably be replaced and the roof will need a respray soon. And I am terrified that someone will bump into it and total it because replacement parts are impossible to find. I think it has ~53k miles currently.

     

     

     

    Quite a collection! I will say finding an IS wagon is an accomplishment these days. I've only seen a couple

     

     

     

    I eyeballed that SportCross for months. It had 63k miles on it and was relatively cheap. I went to take a look at it and it was way worse than the pictures showed. But I said the heck with it and I bought it. By the time I was done I could no longer pretend I got a good deal, but working on it was an absolute pleasure since everything came apart and went back together perfectly. No broken tabs or illogical placement of things (coughcabinairfiltercough). And it drives phenomenally. Since she's had it she's had no fewer than 10 offers to buy it by random strangers.

     

     

     

    I’m actually surprised you still have the wagon, doesn’t seem like you use it much.

     

    Clean looking car though and a unicorn 2007 lgt wagon at that!

     

     

    It was the first '07 wagon I had seen for sale used. I saw it listed one day after work and decided to drive the 2 hours just to take a look. I was totally in love with the 4th gen wagon looks and the fact that it was AWD, which I had fallen in love with in my nightmare Audi, just made it that much better.

     

    10 years is the second longest I've had any car. Second to my Impala which I've had for 25.

    Since owning it, once we got past the initial hiccup, things have been relatively pain free and it's been very reliable. I've done a few things to it, but I wanted to keep it relatively stock looking and reliable. I've got it exactly where I want it.

    I've thought about selling it a few times, and I posted it on here for sale a few years ago. And honestly I've been mulling it over for the past several months but I just can't bring myself to it.

     

    Since acquiring it quite a few cars have come and gone from my driveway.

     

    A couple months later I sold my 2005 Scion tC as the LGT was its replacement. Later, my wife also sold her 2006 Scion tC to get her own 2009 LGT, which she has since sold and bought a 2018 Forester XT.

    In 2011 I sold the Civic I had at the time which I bought simply because it was cheap. I had it right around a year.

    Also in 2011 I bought a 1966 Pontiac Catalina. I bought it for the engine to swap into my 1967 Impala. I did that, fixed a few minor things, and sold it after about 4 months.

    ALSO in 2011 I bought a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT. I had it for less than a month because it had some problems I wasn't aware of and the dealer I bought it from took it back since they felt like they sold it too cheap anyway. It was a weird time.

    And, I believe it was also 2012 when my wife bought her 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si. I took this photo today.

    In 2012 I sold my 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T since the wagon replaced most of what I needed a truck for - and by that time we had finished the major renovations on the house. It had ~50k miles when I sold it.

    Later in 2012 I bought my 2006 GTO sight unseen on eBay and flew to Florida then drove it home. It's still hanging around.

    Then it got quiet for a while.

     

     

    After that pause, in 2015 I bought my neighbor's 2007 Civic 5-speed because he was moving his family to Asia for a few years. I drove it around for about 9 months before I sold it to a dad for his daughter who he wanted to ensure could drive stick.

    Also in 2015 I took my stepdad's truck because he was no longer supposed to be driving. I hung onto it for about a year and a half. It was a 2009 Tacoma PreRunner. I sold it to my boss for her kids in 2016 with something like 32k miles.

    ALSO in 2015 I bought a worn but low mile 2002 Lexus IS300 SportCross. I spent about 6 months fixing it up and I gave it to my mom since her lease was up and she needed something to drive that would also fit in her garage. She's still puttering around in it confusing car guys.

    In late 2017 I took over someone's lease of a 2016 Buick Regal GS. I got an amazing deal on it and I really liked it. I turned it in back in June of 2019.

    And finally, in March of 2019 (you may notice some overlap there) I leased a 2019 Lexus IS300 AWD. That's what I drive 85% of the time now.

    So as you can see, it's been a long and eventful journey with my Legacy. Thanks for taking this trip down memory lane with me.

  15. I'm honestly not sure who got full painted versions. I've only ever seen machined in the wild. Maybe non-GT? I dunno.

     

     

    I got a wheel redone through Alloy Wheel Solutions in Chantilly a few years back. But I did it because it was impossible to find a replacement. For these, it would be cheaper to get a reconditioned wheel from a reputable source than refinishing them. It cost $225 because they had to send it out to be machined. Most places don't have the equipment to to the machining, only the straightening and painting.

     

    Maybe you'd be able to get it cheaper since you have other sources. But For the price and convenience I'd rather have it shipped to me and not be down a wheel in the meantime.

  16. If you look at your wheels, if yours is fully painted, you should see no difference between the pockets between the spokes and the face of the wheel.

     

    Mine has the pockets painted silver but the face of the wheel has been machined and clear coated so there is no paint, just the bare aluminum.

     

     

     

    I've kept mine on for summer use because I think they look good as far as stock wheels go. One of my replacements had the clearcoat start peeling off which is why I ordered a replacement. I got that one from someone other than Wheels and Caps and I learned my lesson.

  17. Not sure how, but I managed to order the wrong option for paint (mine is machined) so I have a newly remanufactured 6-spoke 17x7 OEM wheel. This is not aftermarket, it is an OEM Subaru wheel and it was straightened and repainted by Wheels And Caps which is where I have ordered many wheels and I've always been happy with them.

     

     

    This just arrived at my house today (11/30) and I opened the box and knew right away it was painted so it has only been out of the box to inspect it. It's in great shape and ready for a tire.

     

     

    $100

     

    I prefer local pick up as shipping will be pretty expensive. I am taking a big hit on this so my price is (edit)pretty(/edit) firm. If you want me to ship it to you, expect it to be about another $50+.

  18. I have Tein H Techs on Konis. I wouldn't recommend the Teins because of how harsh the ride can be sometimes. I've had them on for about 7 years/40k miles and the Konis have held up.

     

     

     

    As for the bouncy Konis, I also have them on my GTO and when I first installed them the rear of the car bounced like crazy. I was able to adjust them to eliminate that. That should be your first step, play around with it and see if you can dial it in better.
