  1. I've been looking pretty hard at the 2018+ Golf R, as we finally got the Facelift this year. Drove one while working in Germany last year and they are very tidy. Very expensive over there as well. Fully decked out I think the list was almost 60K Euro. Here in Canada, 42K. Still pricy for a Golf, but most mid range cars up here seem to be getting up to the mid 30's anyway.

Not sure I'd sell the Legacy wagon anytime soon, at the very worst I'll keep it as a winter car :-)

  2. Just checking back with a little one year update. :)

Wagon still runs well, very well in fact. Boost peaks between 17-18psi depending on how cool temps are, injector duty cycle tops out around 67% in colder temps, with AFR's in the low to mid 10's depending on load and engine speed. This tune is by far the best, and most well developed, that I have ever had on the wagon. Can't thank graham enough.

A realistic reference 1/4 mile time for a VF52 setup on a limited 5EAT wagon on an 85 degree day, brake boosting to 1200rpm to take slack out of the drivetrain. I was the right lane, and a stage 2 2016 WRX in the left launching HARD to try and avoid the shame:

Another thing I've noticed: The wagon really doesn't feel fast and punch below highways speeds anymore. I think it's a combination of more turbo lag, and relative power at lower speeds vs higher speeds. My VF46 punched very hard early on, and held till redline, but started choking at higher speeds. My current setup *seemingly* has just as much power available powering down a straight at 100mph as it does playing racecar on backroads at half the speed. I really appreciate the linear powerband I've got.

Nice build! This is interesting when you mention The VF46. With the Accessport TA map I get a 1.99s 60 foot. But she dies out pretty quick in the later gears at high RPM. I need to figure out why it auto shifts from 2nd to third at 4500 RPM when I'm in Manual mode. With my open source tune that's not an issue:-) Soon to be VF52 with a EL header:)

  3. Can you get a stock airbox pretty readily? If so give that a try.

You can't datalog the *existing* ROM with the AP without marrying it and in turn having to choose a map. And as you say it pulls hard without the AP, so it's possible it was tuned through Open Source. So really you have no idea if it's running crazy lean with the original ROM or not....so I'd get the equipment to log that ROM, or just throw in a OEM airbox and see how the OTS Stages do.

  4. Clean, my Canadian neighbor. Looks great. I've got dgm wagon goodness(07) with spec b 18's as well, dig your taste. Also just installed JDM Bilsteins and pinks. I've got a set of summer wheels that I wasn't quite ready for this year. What direction are you thinking of going on your next wheels?

Also, there was a thread about production numbers.

The member had pretty acute info for US models, a polite pm request and he may be able to figure out Canadian as well. We didn't get a Legacy wagon for the '08 model year here in the states, mine is from the last year it was offered. So I'm guessing that an LGT wagon with factory facelift is pretty rare in North America. Enjoy.

I'm all over the map on what I want for summer wheels. I really like the STI multi spoke on Japanparts, so I guess the equivalent is the Rota Gravel? There are a couple other nice Rota wheels as well. Also a few nice ENKEI. I'm not entirely sure how black would look on our cars, but a Hyper Black or a grey shade should look nice!

The Canadian market is small as it is, so there can't be too many LGT Turbo wagons in this colour. Mind you my neighbour across the street has an 08 Non turbo wagon in our colour. For whatever reason it look a tad lighter...but mine had a slight re spray and clear after a new bumper was installed so who knows;)

  5. Thanks!

08s come with top-feeds stock. That was one of the changes from pre-facelift to the newer BL/BPs so no conversion is necessary. TGVs are being done simply because the engine is out. I was on the fence about the injector upgrade but decided to just do it for ease of tuning and raising the ceiling so to speak.

I already have an added cooler for the 5EAT and unfortunately there are no VB upgrades for us AT owners with 07+ LGTs :spin:

you'd think with the increasing amount of 5EATs's to 5MTs post 07-today, one would think valve body upgrades would be viable, more viable to the few 05-06 5EAT's out there. :hide:

That being said, mine has quick, firm shifts after a Tune. Even in standard form they are nice and quick and don't hang. Not sure how they are on older models? I have no idea if that has anything to do with line pressures, tunes or....

2008 DGM LGT, 5EAT, 95K km. Stage 2+, JDM Bilsteins/STI Pink springs... and goes like stink:-)

Looking for some cosmetic upgrades in the Spring, namely wheels and changing that terrible cherry wood interior trim. Currently I have snows on the '07 SpecB rims.

Hmmm I wonder how many of these sold in this model year? 8-)

  7. ^ Biggest tire I was able to fit with that wheel was a 235/40/17 on a slightly lowered wagon. It rubbed the inside fender liner just a little bit in the rear and was very close to the outside fenders, but no modifications or crazy camber settings.

255/40/17 won't fit without some work.

Thanks for that! I'll probably take a pass on the wheels as the price reflects basically brand new tires. What mufflers do you have on that? They look like they sit perfect!

  8. I picked up a Prodrive axle back setup (with the original oval tips) from Fleabay ...for far too much $ probably...but wow, what a sound. Really deep and smooth...

They are a bit boomy at low RPM and light throttle (but not exactly loud), perhaps because of the wagon. But when i'm on it and at that point the engine noise takes over for the most part. On the highway or cruise...virtually no sound.

Moral of the story, if you keep the stock front end, most axle back setups should be fairly subtle if the cans are good quality.

I'm a bit concerned about the sound when I go to a larger DP though...I'm a guy coming from a SpecB that was just a Cobb DP with stock exhaust and that was pretty mint. maybe just a shorty DP OR...STI quads I guess....
