I am running a turbo-back exhaust, up-pipe, VF52, and Cobb injectors. I can only make 17.5 PSI with the stock TMIC and boost controller. We're estimating 240-260hp? The car feels fast. I am running the IPT 5EAT and it shifts fast and aggressively. Anyone running the stock trans who enjoys performance should get this rebuild. My car spins the tires now sometimes when shifting. It's solid!
Anyway, so here's my question: I am probably looking at 1400 dollars to get an electronic boost controller and bigger intercooler and a new tune so that I can run 20psi. But is it even smart to run 20psi on an 18 year old engine? If I want to turn the PSI down for reliability's sake what can I make at 19 PSI? I am trying to understand better whether the mods would be worth the money.
Thanks everyone! Let's keep our Legacy's alive for another decade!
Also go check my sale post. Got a mint Grimmspeed top mount ready for ya. MAX is dead on, you need that monster mount. Also you can have your turbo all jazzed up and not have to go with a different one. My VF52 has been modified. That will help a ton.

ETS FMIC requires trimming of the bumper skin. But fits very tight and nice. Power available from the kit is 2nd to none. If you have the coin, you will not be disappointed. My favorite "off the shelf" kit.
Dyno all nighters were a common occurance when the BRZ/FT 86 was released. It was like 2001 all over again. Good thing the shops closest neighbor was a power plant. No one complained about our noise.
Yeah the kit fits very tight, but the power is there when you need it. I'm an old guy around here, and with two young kids the car sits and I drive my daily. Too many sports and kids events lol. I do like to let the external gate open sometimes hehe.

So I figured I would share my since I got my ETS front mount on, and the car Re-tuned. So when i picked up the car I could tell from the first drive (Which was 2 + hours home) that the car was wild. It runs very smooth, has natural pops from the mufflers, which I only get around 3K if I let off the gas. HEHE. Not going to lie, it sound pretty cool, and it's some what loud and I love it.
You do have to cut the bumper so it fits nice and tight. I did not want to put the front plate on my with my car standing out in my city, cops will get me each time. The wheels give me away. It's been two weeks and car runs great. Next step is STI 6MT. I get a ton of thumbs up now riding down the road now from all the tuner people and V8 people. I had to get new TS race port also cause my old one would not fit. I recommend the kit to anyone that's gone over board like me. Car is all cleaned up and ready for summer.
lets not talk about that passenger headlight, I am so pissed, but it goes away fast, I am going to get new custom lights and pay the high cost so they seal right and I know it's done right. this will be my 3rd set.

I would give 3k for it max, might even offer 2k and see if they take it. A rebuilt or salvage title is not worth anything. So offer low and cash. If you really want to buy it drive it and have it looked at.

You need to make sure you car is running in good condition with the miles it has before you decide to do anything. I do not really even recommend cobb OTS unless your going to the pro tuner that day. The OTS is not for you to drive on for a long time. The parts are fine if your going to the tuner that week.

Added to my wishlist. My wallet needs a break from this car. Summertime brings the usual raking in of OT and naturally I'll have to reward myself for a job well done putting in those 55-60 hour weeks
This part is a must have. Love it.

I'm thinking that will be my plan if I get jammed up with the install. Maybe the gaskets will be ok to reuse?
I'm looking at possibly going with either the perrin or cobb V2 turbo inlet for longevity. I'm trying to find out which is the least painful to install.
Find a nice AVO big boy one , I like mine. Tight like a tiger but works great!

I will also have to drain my wallet this week. I need a new clutch kit. The Exedy stage 1 can't handle the VF52 for very long. Barely 40K and it is already slipping. Plus, I have not "turned it up" just yet. May get the 'copper backed 9 pad' as shown below (source: https://www.thezfdesign.com/clutches).
When I was having my car all built, I went Stage 2 +, I knew my VF52 that I got modified would need to hold the power. I also do not go nuts in the car.

Man I think you bought someones problem. I drive an 06 LGT and I knew I was going to rebuild this thing. You might take it to a real Subaru tuner shop and have them look it over and give you the real deal with the car. These cars have a mind of their own. Get it checked out.

do 400whp, and a STI 6MT and be happy. I would not put that much into a 2006 unless you have a daily like I do. I have an 06 with what I need but I could never daily it, tuned and built cars are not reliable. These cars have an attitude and act funny even when they are running great lol.

Damn Mishimoto radiator install was a pain. Slightly off fit, had to trim most of the hoses, replaced crusty old hose clamps, and the coolant crossover. That little elbow at the water pump should probably be replaced now. Was expecting to be in and out..
Just a question, why did you not go Koyo Rad? It fits sooo well. I love them.

I just pulled my passenger headlight because it wasn’t working and noticed it has a factory LED headlight. I didn’t know that was an option for this year. Could they possibly be a retro fit from another year?
yes, this has to be a retro fit light, I have never seen one with LED. I have seen HIDs from japan stock. I myself have V-LED Micro in my stock projectors and the are great.

Got my full ETS Front mount kit in with gaskets needed, Getting re-tune and should be solid. I will post some pics up of the kits here so you all can see it. I wanted the best fitting kit, and paid for it. Getting it all done on may 9th.
In the meant time My other 2013 NA legacy had a coolant leak I could not run down, I spent days looking for it. I thought it was the water pump or lower coolant hose. I had the care all in the air and was about to tear it apart and said screw this. My tuner could not get me in for weeks so I got the hook up at the dealer but still had to drop 1k that included getting a new key coded.
It was the coolant hose on top of the manifold that was bad, they showed it to me, and I got it all fixed. I didn't want to do dealer but with kids, life and work plus my knee's hurt from the the garage floor it was worth it lol.

Who rebuilt this thing for it to just go bad again? Dang

That does make sense, I'm not sure if a cold air intake would give turbo flutter because I haven't seen anything explicitly saying how to get flutter but that would really be the only reason I would want a intake assuming that's all it takes. I mean if I spend less money on engine parts then I can use that money for appearance related upgrades.
If say I instill UEL headers with a downpipe and catback would that all still run on a stg2 or would the UEL headers require their own protune?
You need a Pro tune or you will be heading to short block city. These cars will act crazy if you add parts and no tune.
-
I had to start, starting mine few times a week to make sure the hoses were ok.
-
05 might be time for short block, depending on miles.

I didn't see the bit about a new intercooler being on the list, but I will 100% say that the GS unit was an easy install and the end tanks will not separate from the heat exchanger portion. Dunno how soon @NORULZleggy wants to part with his, or how much the car is driven this time of year, but maybe a convenient time for everyone to play musical chairs with their IC's?
My car has been and will be on a trickle charger. i have a daily for winter. It see's no snow and rain. With kids sports and work, it stays clean in the garage. drive it only on nice days.

They are good, I had one on my 09 WRX.

The new WRX is cool, but my 04 STI would be the ONLY car I would go back to. To each his own, but I need to move up in car. So R35 would be my next choice. i also do not DD my LGT so It only has 145K with fresh build and tune. I have to keep this till the kids are about out of high school and wife out of nursing school. I also only pay cash. So it will be a while.
I hope you tune that baby, Go check out Heavy metal Rex on youtube. he is close to me and has a VA that is tuned and it crazy quick.

I thought you knew to follow my build. I think you know to see my "click here" link. I ran that ej257 on stock fueling tuned on ESP's dyno at 21psi with the vf52. The stock injectors had over 306,000 miles when I sold the wagon.
It really is that easy. The ej257 was still great some 150,000+ miles later.
Please go VF52 at the least. Over build the car and then tune it for 320 and you will be very happy. I followed Max Cap, and added in tons more performance stuff. I search and got deals. I could tune it for more boost and power but, the trans and block would like it. You would be surprised how many feeling you hurt with that power. Oh do not cut corners, and make sure you add some GSC goodies to your heads.

ETS front mount kit on the way , Going to get it all installed and tuned. Will be selling my Grimmspeed TMIC after.
Anyone have the ETS kit or FMIC? How do you like it? , Not looking for a speed demon build since the car sits, but wanted something different. This will be the last power mod, 6-speed is next.
6sp swap who was it?

You should think about getting a big boy radiator then. I also just run about 76 on cruise when I hit the highway. I never go above 187 on the highway with air moving. I did notice with my FMIC now that the temps are a bit higher like 190's but go back down when I move air.
