So what's the "paid" alternative (eg: > $1 of washers) - replace the rear mufflers in order to get a better sound? If so what's available for this? Anyone got vid's / sounds they can post? Not a fan of the "hogzaust (aka "hole-n-zaust" - and no disrespect hogmeat, the idea is simple but I'm not 18 years old anymore trying to pull pussy with 60 cents worth of washers) I want the boxer rumble noise and preferably a nice exhaust note when I ring the shit outta it, but preferably don't want an annoying drone at idle or cruising.
I got to drive a Lamborghini Gallardo around a local race track yesterday, if anyone can get a Subby to sound like that for < $200 they'd be a rich man lol!!! That was 550HP of pure sex on wheels.

Just because you pay more for an exhaust doesn't mean it's going to sound better. I've tried a magnaflow full catback exhaust (I forget how much.. $800?). It sounded like shit. WAY too much drone, too much bass, too loud. Granted I have an aftermarked downpipe.
I've also tried nameless performance axleback muffler deletes. A high quality product. I think around 500 bucks? It was obnoxiously loud.
I've given up for now, unless I can first hand hear something that sounds better than my hogzaust. Also, DON'T rely on youtube or forum posts on here if you're making a decision on which aftermarket exhaust to buy. I was fooled twice by this. The only certain way is to listen in person, to a car that has a very similar setup (eg aftermarket downpipe vs stock makes a big difference).

How do the prodrives compare to hogzaust? Details please!

I tried taking the mufflers off my car (exhaust exiting at the axleback flange); it sounded OK at low throttle. But at heavy throttle all you hear is huge gushing air of hot exhaust hitting the underbody of the car. Not a good test IMO.
So I ordered the nameless muffler deletes thinking they would sound similar to muffler off / hogzaust. Nope. Quite a bit louder (2-4x maybe?)
-
I think it's a physiological effect of the increased sound. My car feels faster through 1st and 2nd gear with the windows up.
-
I've found that 3-4 washers per bolt gets rid of the "air rushing noise" that 1-2 washers creates with the hogzaust. And it really isn't that much louder.

so has anyone gone from a hogzaust to a straight pipe axleback? like this one from nameless performance (http://shop.namelessperformance.com/2005-2009-legacy-gt-muffler-delete-axleback).
I'm wondering if there's any big difference in sound. I've had a stage 3 hogzaust for a few years now but a straight pipe axleback has me interested

edit: just found it: 18x8.0" OZ Alleggerita HLT

Do you have a catted DP ? if yes, remove the mufflers. My 09 Spec B sounds great with not mufflers and stock exhaust.
yeah I do have a catted DP. I did literally remove the mufflers the other day and it sounded good. Except for that when I gunned it, all that exhaust air going into the wheel area sounded like shit. But I'm pretty sure a properly done muffler delete will sound great.

actually i just put in a few more washers and the sound seems to have gone away. still contemplating a muffler delete though..
-
had a magnaflow CBE installed, but didn't like the tone. I actually like the hogzaust tone better -- there is much more texture and detail to the sound. however my one peeve with the hogzaust is the PSHH sound (no, no the turbo) at full throttle. I'm thinking it has to do with the exhaust gasses under pressure escaping from the hogzausted flange.
Thinking of going with a muffler delete to solve this issue (I already took the magnaflow off and am back to stock + hogzausted). Can anyone confirm it will?

my car feels faster with the windows up. seriously it's probably just the increased noise screwing with your brain.

If you are hogsausted now and want to make it sound even better, get an aftermarket downpipe. mine is catted but still gives an even better boxer rumble now. plus it will give these awesome little pop sounds while shifting at WOT. makes me cream my pants every time
-
But when you floor it, there is no more boxer sound, just whoooooosh
I'm curious, since I hear this whoosh sound with the windows down and high RPM + WOT, do 'real' aftermarket exhausts not have this? Something to do with the airflow characteristics of the hogzawst I guess..?
-
Why doesn't it have the boxer rumble like mine had? Do you have an equal length or something?
Looks like it's because he has a 2.5i
Still sounds pretty good though!

Got my first random compliment tonight.. I stepped on it until about 5k rpm in first to maneuver around and through a yellow light in thick traffic and then let just coast down. Some random guy in a Cavalier goes HEY! HEY! Hey man, nice car. the power of hog-zawst!
-
My right rear brake light isn't working -- I replaced it with a 921 but it still isn't lighting up. Could it be a fuse? Where should I look?
-
Another satisfied hog-zawst LGT..
I used some rhino ramps for more space, pblaster and a good socket wrench. They came off pretty easy that way!

Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I haven't found it yet: Where is a good place to actually put the mp3 player? The center console? Are there any pictures / guides for what the best way is to route the wiring there?
