  1. Takata recall expanded even more today? Knew it was just a matter of time. My airbag light comes on sometimes now actually. We'll see if my vin shows up.

    SUMMARY:

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Legacy, Outback, 2009-2011 Legacy, Outback, Forester, 2006-2011 Impreza, Tribeca, 2003-2006 Baja, and 2006 Saab 9-2x vehicles originally sold or that have ever been registered in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." These vehicles may be equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front air bags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.

    CONSEQUENCE:

An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

    REMEDY:

Subaru will notify their owners. General Motors will notify Saab owners. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. A notification schedule has not yet been provided. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-856-488-8500. Saab owners may contact GM at 1-800-955-9007. Subaru's number for this recall is TKA-16.

    NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

  2. i have a floor jack and a flat spot to put em on, along with a tq wrench. i am in natomas (sac) so not too out of the way from the 50/80 split depending on which way youre headed up the hill.

if its not snowing though or there is no snow on the ground, its not worth it... i rock my z1 starspeck's up the hill unless there actual snow coming down

Haha nice, I was just out there to drop my roommate off at Sac International last night. I carried chains last time I was out there but decided not to use them as it was just starting to snow. If there's ice though, game over.

I'll let you know as the time gets closer. Thanks for the offer though!

  3. i duno /shrug

any good micro brews near where you live? we can do 1 case of brew and you help me put em on and agree not to thrash them :)

I go to school in Napa Valley, I'm pretty sure you can find what you want around here. :)

I don't have my jack or tools here at all either, they're at home in SoCal. Best case scenario is that the weather is all clear. If you're in Sac, maybe I can just stop by and swap the wheels before heading to Tahoe if it does call for it.

  4. Spotted, I believe a DGM LGT or Spec.B. I'm not so sure, I saw it last second as I was getting off on Golf Course Dr. off the 101 South. Wasn't able to catch the taillights, or see the front signal marker, so I'm unsure if it's 05-07 or 08-09. I think it had Spec.B wheels though.
  5. iirc the fuse panel has a 12v line you can tap.

you can use the sig lighter 12v for acc since it powrs off with the car.

I have a 10 gauge kit for power and everything. I hate splicing into stock wiring, but I guess I can go after the cigarette lighter if it comes down to that for the ACC switched power.

  6. Why did they get rid of it after 06? WTF! Hahahahaha, oh well. I guess I'll have to splice into the radio or something. They did leave an ACC switched line there right? I wonder if I can get the satellite radio harness and plug it into the stock headunit and take switched power off of there.
  7. It doesn't matter, if I have the space, I'm going to fill it with FLAC. My CarPC is only going to be for navigation and music only. Maybe wireless internet capabilities as well.
  8. WHy you need 48 Gb storage is beyond me.

Money sink... err CarPC total thus far:

    Netbook $200

    Storage $80.

Quit complaining. After 1000 dollars you are entitled. Before that...nope.

Music and movies can fill up 48GB mighty quickly. I think my music alone is at 80 GB or so. FLAC takes a lot of room!

  9. Why a separate thread ?

I centralized ALL the info in one thread so people (noobs) do not have to claim they could not find the info. For the past 2 years this has been the thread where all the info and discussions took place. Decentralizing the info is not productive. Create your own install posts within this thread, I will link it up in the first post.

I only did it because everyone else seemed to have their own with organized pictures and etc. I thought it wouldn't be too much trouble to put a link to my thread in the first post of yours. My bad?

  10. Got my Carnetix CNX-P1900 today. God damn, that thing is small. I always thought it would be huge, and I'd have trouble fitting it. I am certain I'll have NO problem putting it in behind the dash.

That said, I'll create my own thread for my CarPC install.

  11. Not much space back there, I'm afraid.

Don't sedans have some space under the floor of the trunk?

I'm planning on putting the Mac Mini and USB hub in the glove compartment, since I don't put anything in there anyway. Hopefully it'll fit.

For the power supply, I think I may be able to squeeze it back there somewhere.

I worked at Fry's during the summer and someone returned the Mac Mini and upgraded through their service contract at Fry's. It supposedly overheated and had problems, but it has no problems. Manager let me have it for $100, lucky me!

I'm not really a Mac guy though, so i may be looking to change to a PC later, anyone use these before?

  12. Cool. That seems like a pretty inexpensive recipe. :)

Yea I hope so. Just going through all the past installs, including yours. I'm the unlucky one without a wagon, so I have no idea where to put my power supply and Mac Mini. Any thoughts? I haven't seen behind the stock radio and cubby, how much space is back there?

  13. Just throwing my name in here, I am also FINALLY obtaining parts to put a CarPC in. Always wanted to put one in my old car, but in the Legacy it goes. Since I accepted the fact that my Legacy is my comfort car, I might as well put some nice touches to it.

    Things I have already:

    Mac Mini PPC 1.25 GHz w/ 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM - $100

    Carnetix CNX-P1900 with MacPac cables - $90

    Things I need:

    JDM 1DIN Facia - $125 from Rallitek

    7" VGA touchscreen - $270 off eBay

Some 8 or 10 AWG wiring - cheap

Already have a bluetooth GPS hardwired under the hood, currently using my Dell Axim X51V, so this CarPC will take over navigation duties as well.

I'll take lots of pictures and document it well for the community.
