I am also running DWS tires. Agree they have been very good. And a pretty decent value.

Jerry's automotive in Waukesha gets recommended, I have used 2 guys automotive on hwy. 100 and cold spring road....they were great as well and are familiar with the Subaru folks around town. I am actually looking for new shocks/springs and new spark plugs later this year when I tick over 100k on my 05 LGT, and will take it to 2 Guys most likely.

A co-worker and i just bought legacy gt's his is the black one you saw in waukesha.
I commented on another post of yours also but we think you work next to us in germantown.
Ah, I think i caught him near "F" and Moreland a few weeks back, Black with a loud BOV a few cars behind me.
After this weekend's projects I now have a BSM with a black roof in and around Waukesha. I used to see Franz here and there but my commute is a little different these days with all that shitty construction in Waukesha.

I gotta do a "spotted" call-out....can anyone here claim the Dark Grey LGT Wagon, tinted all around and it looked a bit lowered? I saw it on Friday evening on HWY 100 around Sam's Club...

My buddy Mike owns a shop on Hwy 100 & Cold Spring right by Organ Piper, it's called Two Guys Automotive. They do really quality work, him and his business partner have been professionally wrenching cars for over 20 years combined.
They just had a 2012 STI (with 1,500 miles on it...) in there. Guy must have thought he was Colin McRae and swiped in to a crub. Jacked the entire rear cradle. They fixed that up and added gauges, and all sorts of other goodies. Give them a call if you don't mind that drive and tell Mike that Andrew sent you.
I know exactly where that is....Thanks for the recommendation.

I suppose I should dip back into this thread after the long (not really) winter.
Silver 05 LGT in Mukwonago, work in Pewaukee, so i see the folks up and down making the commute through Waukesha.

so, to real business....anyone have a recommendation on a good shop in the waukesha-ish area? I generally wrench in the driveway as best I can, but I am going to take it in and have some pros give it the once over for the 75k milestone. Looking for new Spark Plugs, give the fluids the once over, and especially get the bearings checked....getting some grind turning the wheel to lock and a nice hot burning smell in the garage.
Otherwise I will take it to Wilde....

Mine were too. Just cut the bolts and get new ones at the hardware store.
yeah, just take a sawz-all to the bolt, shear the heads off, and get all new stuff.
-
yeah, it is still going on. so weird that is is completely temperature related. in winter, when it is below say 60 degrees, the sound is gone completely. only when the weather warms up. i will be back to monkeying with it no doubt. i will definitely investigate the fuel lines..i am not sure where they would enter the firewall from inside the engine bay. from below?
very annoying.

Can this be a spotted thread as well? Seems like the N C spotted one is mostly for Chicago.
08 dgm Lgt w rims on swenson Dr in waukesha
not sure where Swenson is, but I am up and down St. Paul heading to and from work. Live in Mukwonago and work in Pewaukee...05 BSM 2.5GT with tint and rally yellow fog lamps.

well, I guess i never considered that. it looks fine and throws plenty of light all the same...but i suppose one or the other would have been fine

installed my pair of Osram Rallye and the selective yellow CPI fogs from Stern. looks great.

I have jammed all kinds of different shit down into the dash at this point. Hard rubber, foam, started with cardboard and it has only gotten louder.
I swear, mine is cursed.
I am going to try to remove the drivers vent, then sink a screw into the firewall as close to that clip as I can reach and see how that will work. hopefully I can put the screw right into the clip to hold it in place.
it is so pathetic that it has come to this.
-
Just to followup, I ended up taking it to Ziebart in Waukesha on a friends recommendation, tint turned out fantastic...
so next question: Anyone know of a boneyard in the Milwaukee area that would have a Legacy or Outback that i could pick through? my car is missing one of the little pieces of chrome on the vent, and I wanted to replace the trim along the center stack because mine is scratched.
I have only lived in the Pewaukee area for a few years...I dont know where the good junkyards are...
-
yeah, it seems inevitable that I will be taking it all apart. I just really, really dont want to have it come to that.
-
so...I have tried just about everything, and cannot find the solution. I jammed a bunch of cut rubber spacer down in between the windshield...but it didnt help a bit.
this is what you guys are hearing too, right?

I fixed mine in under 5 minutes. cut chunks of rubber(about 1cmX1cmX3cm) and wedge(used a big flat head) them between the window and dash at 3 points where those clips are, it puts pressure on them and keeps them from moving.
sorry, i could have told you about this a year ago-i was driving up the alcan and something had to be done.
hmm, I did give something like that a try...but I didnt push the wedge all the way down towards the clip.
can't hurt to give it a shot. thanks!
-
I was thinking if I could locate the clip...just use a drill extension and drive a screw into the clip. all I need is to make it unable to vibrate....
-
I need a bigger wrench...the bolts weren't giving it up this weekend.

Here's a thread of the temporary fix. I even tried using a backer rod. However, the backer rod will get "flat" after some weeks, and then pop out.
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10794&page=9
Yes, I took it to the dealership, they fixed it according to TSB. However, rattle still remains, and I FOUND THE REASON!
So the only way to fix it is, yes, take it apart.
Hardest:
- Take out A pillar, you need to press HARD!
- Take the entire dash out of the car (Remember to unplug the 2 plugs on the passenger side. One is for that tiny thing above, and the other plug is the yellow one I forgot what it was)
- To take out the gauge, you need to remove the clear cover first. Otherwise, it will not come out from the steering wheel
On to the pix!

Close up of the driver side "female" plug. This is the REASON why it rattles! TSB fixes ONLY the male plug rattling inside the female. HOWEVER, it still rattles BECAUSE the female plug is loose inside the frame!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/ewg751/IMGP2755.jpg
Center female plug: this one is blue. Same as the driver and passenger female plug, it is loose. I just put some paddings underneath so it is not loose anymore, and I do not know how to remove it.

Dealership fixed according to TSB, but it still did not solve it.

A pic of female and male together
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/ewg751/IMGP2766-1.jpg
Because I think the TSB fix is not good enough, I add the "protection" inside the female, so the male plug will not move inside for sure! (this sentence sounds funny...) ALSO, i placed some double sided tape behind the white female plugs on both driver and passenger side. This makes sure the plugs will not rattle inside the frame <--the cause of rattle
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/ewg751/IMGP2772.jpg
Finally, put everything back, and rattle is gone!!!!!!!!
All thanks to: Vacation Pix
man, I had my entire driver side taken apart this weekend trying to get in at this rattle (or really closer to a buzz) in the dash. I was driving around the block with one hand in the hole where the vent used to be trying to reach in and push/pull/adjust anything I could get my hand on to see if it effected the sound.
anyone know if it is possible to get at this clip w/o taking apart the dash completely? that may be more than i can handle...
I tried some ridiculous things this weekend, even a desperation move of inflating a pair of small beach balls INSIDE the dashboard to try and put some pressure on any joints and see if there would be any effect. it was ridiculous.

that looks great, right by my wife's parents house too. great looking website.
thanks for the help guys!

Wi folks, anyone have a recommendation for window tinting in the Brookfield/Waukesha/Pewaukee area?

Yeah, my 05 LGT is still kickin around. I work from home so it has only added 2500 miles in the last 3 years or so. It's just hauling snowboards to the hill nowadays.
I'll hang on to it until I need to daily drive something else, or give it to my kid in about 7 years as his first car.
Still cleans up real nice though.
