  1. LMAO. dude when its 0 degrees out here and im romping the piss out of it (yes its been driven for 30 minutes prior to this) my friends panic like WTF was that?!!?!. it sounds like a bunch of rocks are being tumbled in the rear end.

Im pretty sure the sound is mostly coming from the front diff. I dont have this sound in a straight line, only when turning and mostly only when the front tires are spinning...

also i almost always drive with TC off. Your rock tumbling analogy is dead on tho!

  2. Go front LSD 1st. DCCD can be put in at a late date, without dropping the 6MT.

    Mike

Doesnt the front LSD go in the front diff, and the dccd goes into the center diff after the tranny?

Does the transmission need to be dropped for the front LSD ?

  3. If I had the choice, I'd go with the FLSD over a DCCD, especially if I already had an LSCD. But the real question is why not both an LSD and DCCD if you have that opportunity (and a DCCD-capable 6MT).

cost would be the initial reason... a front LSD is much cheaper than DCCD or both :p

  4. I've had this noise ever since I got the car used in 2008. It had 60,000 light miles on it. The original owner was in his late 60's and never reset the trip odometer since new, and still read 26mpg average! I wish I could say the same for my driving, my average is in the teens!

The noise was most notable in 1st and 2nd when I first got it, and now does it in hard acceleration in third and fourth I have 89k on it now. I'm now going to tare my car down and replace the clutch because of a bad throw-out bearing and at the same time I'll inspect the drive-line.

This sound, you guys are describing and that I have been experiencing are reminiscent of a blown u-joint. I had a 72 240z with a supercharged LT1 (I blew tones of u-joints!). This will also come and go with temperature changes, since the grease gets displaced or burned and or dries out. The warmer the weather gets the grease will become viscous thus causing the problem to go away, the colder the harder the grease becomes and binding starts all over again.

I'll post here in a moment my conclusion after inspecting the drive-shaft.

the trip odometer only goes up to 10000 then resets. So your viewing 26mpg for the last (at most) 10000miles.

  5. Its been -10 and lower here for more than a month, and I have been on my nitto summer tires until today (235/40/18s) I switched back to stock rims with Michellen X-Ice (215/45) and IMMEDIATELY the noise came back.

I remember I had this last year and from what I can remember, it has to do with (i thought the front) the front diff being cold and the gears inside chattering.

I can assure you this noise WAS NOT THERE this morning (-20c) and arrive immediately after i switched to winter rubber.

  6. I also rolled the rear fenders

See the plastic piece to the right, the strip that looks like \\ on the right,

Mine keeps poping out at the top clip of that piece due to tire hitting on cornering, and ive rolled the fenders, haven't lowered but haven't done camber or alignment yet.

im +42mm offset, should I scrap these rims and go for something either, (im keeping the tires)

    a.)switch to rim offset +48ish

    or

b.)upgrade the width to at least 8" ?

    or both?

if i go to a +48 offset and 8.5" rim, im only going to reduce the push out to the fender by 6mm, and Ive been told that -1degree of camber will give me 6mm itself. The benefit I think will be ill stretching the tire more on the wider rim. 1" wider rim (12.5mm or 0.5" each side) would eat up the extra meat of the tire wouldnt it?

did/can you heat and roll the bumper lip and the lip on the \\ piece to the right ?

Linea Corse Lemans, Silver w/ a polished Lip. 18x8.5 +45 w/ 235/40/18 Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1's. These puppies are perfectly flush with Racecomp Tarmac 1's at the preset height from Myles with -1 degree of camber upfront. I could not be happier!

im same tire, only a 7.5 rim, and +42 offset and rubbing on rear, how did you overcome rear rubbing?
