  1. This is my plain Jane. No makeup, but for AP Stage 2 and a couple other goodies.

    Edit: 1/2/18...Sold it in Sept./17 @ 65k mi. 'Twas a great relationship.

So too was my experience on this forum. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful!

  2. Hey guys. Just checking in after a bit of a hiatus from this site. I hope everyone is well.

My car is still running like a charm, although I haven't been driving more than twice a week for the past 6 months.

    Sitting now at 62k miles.

Yes, I still feel like I'm walking on egg shells whenever I drive it.

    Read....no revs over 5k....*ever* ! Yeah....I know.

I really should sell it given my very limited mechanical abilities.

I would be soooo choked were the turbo to go (or anything else major),

thereby forcing me to source out all the info. and parts needed. I wouldn't have the patience nor knowledge for that.

Ah well. Not a 3rd world problem, as they say.

    Cheers!

edit: The best part? She doesn't burn a spec of oil. Not a none!

  3. Just the other day, I finally turned 'er over to 60k mi. Darn it! ;)

    Some parts replaced include:

    driver's rear wheel bearing

oil pickup tube and baffle (Killer B, ftw)

fuel system cleaning and de-carbonizing service

    accessory belt

    transmission/differential oil change(s)

    coolant flush with Subaru blue

    Needs:

A full brake job. Going with Hawk pads, steel lines, and quality rotors.

Timing belt and related parts, in 1 year.

    Clutch....not yet!

    Turbo....oh boy. Not yet!

Plus, plus, plus! I'm on it! ;)

    A better described link here....

Yes, it's for sale. No rush to sell though. Still "lovin' it", yes.

It's just that I don't have a whole lot of mechanical experience,

so I kind of feel like I'm walking on egg shells whenever I drive it (I never rev above 5k!).

It doesn't help either in that from what I see, every single one of you guys wrench your own cars.

Thanks to everyone who shares their experiences here on the forum,

as well as private messages whenever I ask. Much appreciated!

  4. Nope, tehnation, not asking that....exactly. But thank you...sincerely.

I'm more or less asking if there is a ballpark mileage where I should start thinking about replacing my turbo.

jasejase pretty much answered my question (a few lines up) by saying there really is no hard or fast rule to determining the time to replace.

I'm going in soon to have a new catless UP installed, as well as a new catback exhaust. Wohoo! I'll have them check for shaft play then.

Darn it though....I just don't want the headaches involved with a failed turbo. Does anyone replace as a means of preventative maintenance (at Stage 2)??

Thanks to everyone for helping the new guy out. :)

  5. Thanks Daniels. I realize the vf40 is maxed out with Stage 2.

What I'm hoping for is a reply that tells me how much longer (ballpark #) I can go on my stocker.

Or....If there is anyone who has replaced it as a preventative measure and at what mileage they did so (at Stage 2).

Perhaps it's a question that really can't be answered. Hence the no replies.

    Beuller? Beuller?

  6. Hello everyone,

    Stupid question, part deux....

Please, can someone advise me *if* there is a 'when' my stock turbo is "maxed out", and or I should start to consider replacing it?

I ask because I really don't want to have to deal with all the headaches that come with a failed turbo.

I am now at 86k mi., use synthetic oil which I make sure is always topped up, and change when due.

Running Accessport Stg.2 , along with an aftermarket catted DP.

Due to go in soon to have a new catless UP and catback exhaust, to replace my stock. I'll have them check for shaft play.

Have never had a check for metal in my oil pan, but will next change.

Easier to remove banjo filter is removed. It was spotless.

Having no issues, none, at the moment. Having to top up oil only minimally now.

If I missed any info., ask away.

  7. Well, I finally made the change to synthetic oil, now at 85k mi. Original turbo.

I put in 5W30, Castrol EDGE with SYNTEC Power Technology.

Any thoughts on this weight (similar weather to Seattle) *and* brand?

What is this I have been reading about using the long type oil filter?

    Is this a must use?

I plan on changing oil every 3200 miles. Most of my driving is highway,

and I next to never drive the car for durations less than half an hour. Is this an ok interval?

Also, is it correct that synthetic oil will require more top-offs/burn more?

    TIA.

  8. Thanks for your advice, Max.

I may have over-guesstimated my oil consumption between oil changes. It's more like 1/8 of a quart at the very most.

80% of my driving is on highways, and I next to never drive the car for less than half an hour in duration. I shall consider a slightly longer OCI, and Rotella t6.

Yes, tranny and diff oils have seen changes. So too has my coolant.

    Driving and enjoying it.

  9. Juuust about to hit 80k miles.

But for scheduled maintenance parts, I've only had a faulty fuel injector replaced, 1 headlight bulb, and rsb bushings.

Nothing else! No bearings, clutch, turbo, radiator, dashboard rattle/gurgle, t-belt.....yet.

    No rust.

So happy with this car. 2nd owner now for 5 years.

AccessPORT (edit to add:COBB) Stg.2, COBB heat shield, catted downpipe, STi tower strut bar, front and rear stabilizer bar, and short throw shifter, all put in at 17,500 miles.

Removed the banjo bolt 1 year ago. It was spotless. OCI religiously every 3125 miles with Penzoil 5w30. Adding about Edit:1/8 quart between OC.

    Did I say I love this car? :) :) :)

  10. Hi gang!

This is my first post as I have not yet pulled the triger on an 05 Legacy LTD 2.5 gt 5mt.

Anyway.I have read thru this entire post (or have I?) reguarding the relay/ECU recall.

    My questions---

I would assume this recall includes us Canadians?

My car to be is stock.Does this mean I don't have AP and therefor have nothing to disconnect when taking it in for the recall?

Any more info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Glad to be here.Hope to *be* here soon.
