  1. It's def a big step up from my 2007 yz250f. It's lighter despite being an e-start 450 with electronics, has more power, hydraulic clutch, air forks, traction control, e-start, fuel injection, 2 different maps you change by pushing the mode button. All things my old YZ didn't have. Really though I could live without most of that stuff as long as I got e-start.... I'm tired of kicking hot 4-strokes 50 times when they don't want to start.

It def didn't beat me up as much as my crf450r did. The lighter weight and TC probably play a big part in that. As you can see in the last pic there was mud and the TC did a amazing job of letting the rear end kick out and spin but only to a certain point. I could barely tell it was doing anything until I did a few laps with it turned off and rear end would swing out even faster and further.

The only difference I could tell between mode 1 and mode 2 was the mid range power. Bottom and top end felt similar(throttle is a little more touchie in mode 2) but in mode 1 mid range feels linear.... in mod 2 it's more violent.

  2. Sounds like you've had some fun machines. I told my brother in law we should both buy yz85s and turn them into super light weight single trail bikes.

Modern bikes do make great power. The 450s can make too much power, even for the pros. And with todays tuning abilities on bikes they tune primarily for power delivery and don't try to mkake more than a certain amount of power.

  3. My 7 year old took a pretty good digger the other day in a field on the XR50. The field was wet and I could see the wet, thick grass was pulling the front end around a little bit but she was doing a good job of keeping it straight. Then as she was circling around us parents I saw the bike get real choppy in the turn and then she floored it. The bike wobbled and the handle bars ripped out of her hand as the bike went to the ground she went over the bars and landed about 6-7 feet in front of the bike on her right shoulder/arm and I thought "oohhh shit I hope her collar bone/arm are ok" as I was running over there. She was sore but luckily nothing broken, luckily 7 year olds are made of rubber. But she was done for the day and anytime she has a tip over it takes me a while to get her back on the bike. My 4 year old though will ride again 20 seconds after he wipes out. He'll be climbing back on the bike while still wiping tears from his face. I usually have to tell him "let's take a break".

We were in the field teaching my nephew how to use a clutch because he got a 2017 kx65 for his 10th birthday. I took it for a ride.... god damn that's a lot of bike for a 10 year old. As soon as it hits the powerband the front end want's to come up and the powerband on 65cc 2 stroke is so small it hits like a freight train, I had to change the way I sat on it to be able to go full throttle or there would have been no way I could have kept the front end down. He did good though learning the clutch and shifting gears, he did hit neutral a few times(but that's expected as everyone does the few first times they ride with MX boots on) which caused him to tip over because he would lose to much speed and by the time he got it into 2nd would stall the bike. He never hit the powerband though. I am excited and scared to see the day that happens.

  4. The uber large men on Harleys are far more prevalent in Ohio than Cali.

No helmet required after 1 year of licensing in Ohio??? That makes no sense at all. If your gonna have a helmet law, number of hours/years riding has ZERO effect on not smashing your head on the asphalt when you get hit. Either require them or dont.

Aren't uber large men in general more prevalent in Ohio vs Cali?

When you posted "what's with 500lbs guys riding baggers" I thought to myself... isn't that what baggers are for? Being from Milwaukee I have seen those guys riding around my entire life.

  5. When I traded in my corvette the dealer salesman was so excited that is had brand new tires on it. He said to me tires for corvettes cost 1500 dollars and that's why he was excited they were new. I left out the part where I paid less than 600 dollars for them off tire rack and they are not oem or run-flats.... and corvettes don't have a spare tire.

Congrats on the Camaro. Those supercharged 6.2 liters are something else. I have been in a few, most recently a very heavily modded CTS-V. Not just the power but that trq is insane.

  6. I thought pushrods were lighter and carried their weight lower since the camshaft is in the valley? They also only need one camshaft vs. dohc.

Correct, they are. Small block vs small block the bottom ends are pretty similar. But the heads on a DOHC motor are much much bigger. They have to fit 2 cams per bank and on a v8 it's 4 cams vs 1... and all that extra casting to house the cams and all those chains to drive the cams. In a pushrod motor there is just a hole through the center of the block in casting that is already there because the block is always there regardless of cam location.

For example the DOHC coyote 5.0 ford motor is about 50lbs heavier than a 6.2 liter LT1. Not only are they heavier but they have a wider foot print because it's a V8 and the heads are so much bigger. So it actually takes up more space in an engine bay than a pushrod small block as well.

I member in 2008 or around then when BMW released their 4.0 v8 for the new M3 and it won the international engine award a few years in a row I couldn't help but think... why? Sure it was a cool motor, that reved to 8500rpms and sounded sweet but the LS3 came out the same year.... it was 2.2 liters bigger but it made about 20 more horsepower... a shit ton more trq 295 for the bmw vs 420 for the ls3... it weighed about 40lbs less, took up less space and the Camaro that year was rated 3mpg better city and 7mpg better highway.... despite it weighing almost 4klbs. The m3 was a far better car overall but motor vs motor it really didn't have any benefits over the pushrod v8. In fact it lacked and fell behind in a few areas.

  7. Push rod engines. In the 2000s. Just farkin' high tech winners!

So is Harley building steam engine sportsters to catch up on sales? Giggle. ;)

And yet almost no engine design can provide the power, fuel economy and reliability the GM pushrod small blocks can. Plenty of real world owners clocking almost 30mpgs freeway in their 650hp corvette z06s.

  8. Motus built their own Pushrod V4s though, which was pretty amazing. The design was inspired by the LS motor. Jay Leno's garage had an episode on them. Pretty cool stuff. 126lbft of torque is immense.

I saw that on their website the single cam and pushrod internals. It is cool stuff and 126ftlbs is quite a bit but 36k is still insane. Even the Italian and German/Austrian bikes aren't that much.

  9. Well interestingly their water cooled 750 actually has almost 70hp. It's not great, but that's a lot closer to the Japanese cc/power ratio than their air cooled offerings.

That is pretty decent. Especially considering the 107CI or 1750cc motor they use in a lot of bikes makes 85hp.

I personally hope it's awesome. Makes good power, 125ish or more. Handles like a champ and has decent fit and finish for a reasonable price. Would love it if the US had a sportbike line to be proud of.

  10. Looks cool, hopefully it's reasonably priced and still has performance.

I'm interested to see what they can get out of 975ccs. We know the cruisers and touring bikes are pretty bad power to CC ratio but it's been a while since they have had a sporty bike. Even in the Buell days they made him start off with the 1200cc sportster 70hp dog of a motor because they didn't want to fund a new engine. Then they sourced the 1125cc motor from rotax... which was better but not a Harley motor. I wonder if Harley is making this 975cc or sourcing it from another company?

  11. Wasnt a Scout. That was the reveal of a new bike Indian is coming out with soon I believe.

No, they were all Scouts with suspension mods. They were still pretty close to stock weight though. And he jump further than Evel, 2 more cars in the car jump, 2 more buses in the bus jump and 10 more feet over the fountain. Still amazing that evel did it on a 70s bike with 70s tech... he also didn't land the fountain jump and broke some stuff.

Evel wasn't just a daredevil. He was the daredevil that learned how to advertise and make a living off of it. He took something that was considered nothing more than circus act and made it a stand alone lifelong career.

  12. Speaking of TP he is on team Puerto Rico for MXoN. It was supposed to be him, Sipes and Ronnie Mac all on 2 strokes but someone got mad that Ronnie Mac is a fictional character and said he wasn't allowed to race in MxoN. Now they are running a 4 stroke 450 on team PR and ruined the whole all 2 stroke team.

I thought it was a great idea to have a team made up of two over the hill retired racers and a fictional character all on 2 strokes but the FIM didn't think it was funny. They basically picked a team that would bring them as much money as possible in donations for PR relief. Below is Ron and yes his swing arm says "I EAT ASS"

  13. Lol I know the scene you're referring to in True Lies. I love that movie by the way. One line I never understood though and me and my dad get a kick out of it's ridiculousness is when the used car dealer who is pretending to be a spy to sleep with Arnold's wife is explaining to him what attracts him to her and he says "ass like a 10 year old boy" WTF... I have never looked at a woman's ass and said mmmm mmmm now there's an ass like a 10 year old boys. Seriously... WTF.

Horses on a MX track... now there is an idea lol. How are you not rich yet with all these great ideas?
