  1. North Shore Subaru wants to charge me $700!!!!!!!!!!!! to fix this because they have to take off the intake manifold. I'm baffled as to why this isn't a recall as result of it being an environmental, health, and safety hazard. Gasoline should NEVER be leaking from anywhere! I intend to speak with a lawyer if I am not fully compensated by Subaru or my extended warranty.

Why would they recall thousands of cars if only a few have the problem? Not to mention it's a 2005. If $700 is too rich for your blood don't go to the dealer, or get a second opinion.

  2. Let us know if Subaru gets back to you. I've tightened all the lines in my '01 Legacy, but on a really cold morning the smell is back. I'd be thrilled if Subaru would offer to fix this!

You sure it's not just a typical smell of an engine running rich? Does the smell continue when idle stabilizes? When your engine runs rich, unburnt gas comes from the exhaust and smells almost identical...

  3. Could also be the fuel pressure regulator. On my '00 i needed to change it, in some cases it's just a rubber o-ring. NOTE: if you remove the FPR be prepared to change the o-ring whether its broken or not. With time the ring loses its original shape and when you put it back you will probably damage it.
