  1. The wheel/tire combo is....well...perfect. Nice car. GLWS.
Thanks! I had 18x8 +45mm wheels with 235/40 tires that were fine until a wheel was destroyed by a big rock on the road. I found these on Craigslist and thought they would rub for sure. Luckily the seller was okay with letting me test fit and drive around to confirm they were okay. Much to my surprise, they haven't rubbed.

Looks like you have done it before... so what is the price of shipping from one coast to the other approximately?
LOL, I actually wanted to drive across the country and the plane tickets were only about $100 per person so I never looked into shipping costs. My cost was $50 hotels (except in Vail, Colorado ), gas, food, and $200 in plane tickets. I would encourage anyone to do the same if they can swing it. You get to see the country and you don't have to do a round-trip. I would have done it by myself, but it was even better that my significant other was able to go. Most non-car (or adventurous) people that heard about it thought I was crazy. It wouldn't have been much fun if I had to drive straight home though.

    History and Background

Purchased in 2008 from a seller on LGT.com with 63k miles (prior FS thread)

My requirements when shopping for this car were a GT wagon in Limited trim, manual transmission, black interior, and ABP exterior. After figuring out from the Official MY2005 production numbers by model & color thread that there were only 24 produced in this configuration, I cast a wide net while shopping. A match popped up in Rhode Island so I flew out from LAX to Boston with the woman that is now my wife on a Friday red-eye flight. After meeting with the seller and completing the deal, we took the next 9 days to drive back to California while visiting friends and family and being tourists. It was a great trip and my daily driver prior to the LGT wagon was a 2002 WRX wagon purchased new in 2001. I fully expected to keep this car forever.

Reason for Selling: 2 drivers in the house with 3 cars and we both work from home permanently now. Sadly, the Prius and big SUV make the most sense for me to keep.

  3. Here are the part numbers I gathered for this job, at least on my 2005 Legacy GT (4cyl, 2.5L turbo). Quantities in parentheses.

    (4) 13293AA051 - Inner Valve Cover Gasket / Spark Plug Hole

    (1) 13270AA190 - Valve Cover Gasket right side

    (1) 13272AA140 - Valve Cover Gasket left side

    (4) 11051AA070 - Plug Cylinder Head (half moon seals)

For anyone looking in the FSM, search for ROCKER COVER instead of VALVE COVER.

  4. I'm working on cleaning up the front page of the thread to make it easier to navigate and link to. Thanks to everyone who has offered to help out with design or share what they have designed. I am going to work on a insert for the cubby to hold a phone in landscape orientation tonight. I want a simple and quickly removable way to hold my note 4.
I have a Exomount Touch CD in my Legacy and a suction cup version in my wife's car. I think they're great for holding cell phones (my Note 3 with case is about as wide as you can go) and they have a ball fitting on the back that I'm sure you could attach to a custom cubby ball mount.

They're available for Amazon for $20-$25.

  5. No, it is SOP for Yelp. In fact they did not do it in the "past" and have ramped it up as Yelp became more "popular". It is a business. It must make money. The more you pay, the more you can manipulate. It is very easy to delete bad reviews as long as you have a paying account. It is somewhat funny because they claim you will make over $1250 in sales for each good review. They have a whole matrix they use to "boost" the value of their offerings. Most online review sites are the same. The more you pay, the better you can look.

Do all the Subie that roll through the shop on a daily basis count for sightings? LOL.

I'm just sharing my experience with them over the course of a couple years and different sales people/account reps and they've never offered any manipulation. I know that all the reviews on my business are legit since we know each person that posted a review. Two thirds of our reviews have been filtered by Yelp using whatever secret algorithm they've developed, so it certainly looks like they make an effort to catch the b.s. and there are a bunch of reviews that they could offer to me in return for additional advertising money, but haven't. In the end, I'd take yelp review data over no data.
  6. Welcome to the forum.

Just a note, you do realize you can buy your Yelp reviews right? Their sales team calls once a week touting how much business the reviews will make you and offering packages to raise your review ratings. The more you pay, the better you appear. You can even pay to have poor reviews removed.

I've fielded numerous sales calls from Yelp for a company I help and was never offered anything like this. I don't doubt that they've done it in the past and that some sales people still do it, but my guess is that they are the exception, not the rule. The subject company eventually became an advertiser and still has not been offered any review manipulation.

I'm sure there's plenty of fake reviews out there, but I bet the honest reviews far outnumber the fake.

  7. Are you using a pipe cutter? If so, just butt it up against the silver/bronze/gold colored part and cut from there.

All the cut is for is to allow the top of the new strut insert to clear, while getting the three bumps on the new insert within the old tube (torquing the bottom bolt pulls them in).

It just needs to look like this when done (plus the rubber boot that seals the space between the wall and the insert)

Ah, thanks. Duh, should have figured that out myself from the Fred Beans photos. Without paying attention to that detail when I read through the complete walk thru, I failed to look at the assembled photo to see how it comes out. Looking at the Koni, I figured that cinching it down would result in the flange portion butting up to strut body where I was cutting. Now I see that 5mm is irrelevant. Thanks!
  8. Great writeup, thanks a ton. I have one question - is the 40mm measured from the top of the goldish cap with holes in it (Dimension A below), or from the strut body as seen through the holes in the cap (Dimension B)? The difference seems to be about 5mm.

I realize I could assume A, test fit, and cut again if I discover that I've guessed wrong, but I'd rather cut once instead of twice =)

  9. If PB Blaster + MAPP gas + breaker bar/impact gun can't get it, you're in trouble. My Makita cordless impact is still only mostly effective on the big suspension bolts. The real stubborn ones take heat + impact. One of my next purchases will be: Amazon.com: Ingersoll-Rand 2135TiMAX 1/2-Inch Air Impact Wrench: Home Improvement

    -Steve

Wow, 780 ft lbs. My 230ft/lb electric harbor freight impact wrench has been defeated once or twice and made me bust out a breaker bar with jack handle, but 780 should be more than enough for ANY job.
  10. I can't get the lower strut bolt loose on my passenger side front. I even bought a 350 ft lb electric impact wrench and still no dice. Is there anything else I can do to get it loose? if I soak it in wd40 how long should I wait? any other tricks people know?
WD40 isn't very good for this situation. Try something like PB Blaster. It works well for me. PB and similar products should be available at your local auto parts store.

Just spray the heck out of it and let it sit for 5-10 mins, then try again. Repeat if unsuccessful.

Amazon reviews will back me up.
