  1. Bump - anyone tried Flatout's package? In addition to this, they offer a rally sprung kit. Looks like one would need subframe spacers and maybe trailing arm (?) adjustment to push the rear back a bit. https://flatoutsuspension.net/collections/subaru/products/legacy-grl
  2. So, some progress: SoA has agreed to include my export Legacy as part of the NHSTA brake line recall. The next step is getting SoC to honour that...right now, they are not even going to do the airbag recall, nevermind the brake lines! I was glad I checked my email, cause I was about 10 minutes away from bashing on with this myself. http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48587951442_e2a5d3979c_b.jpg
  3. Thanks! That did the trick. I was able to slide the entire connector off a metal rail and saw the tab that way. Now, to fix the tear in the seat!
  4. Fellas, I'm reaching rage point at this clip. Trying to remove front driver seat 07 LGT, and I cannot figure out how the circled one comes out. Thanks,
  5. Crap, I thought the big plastic thing was the wheel well liner. Oh well, that's off now. The bolts over my skid plate (?)...they are not even 6 sided anymore, just a rusty blob. I think the grinder will have to come out. The good news is that the lines going in & out of the box thingy appear to be in good shape, except for a 1cm length between the box and the brake. I think that is where the leak is coming from, but I'm going to do a leak test before attempting a repair.
  6. Max Cap - I bought it new in Seattle, but only have a temp export permit to Canada. This was back in 2007 when our dollar was at par with the USD, and a Subaru was around $15k less in the USA. It has been in Canada since. ehsnils - I've filed a letter to Transport Canada recall, not sure where that will go. I quoted the both TC (our NHTSA) recall #'s on the Legacy. edgmoulic - awesome, thank you for that thread and the pics. Is the back seat easy enough to remove? Tha
  7. Oh yeah, car is not driveable! :-) SoA got back to me and said the same thing...my VIN is not part of the recall. Did not answer the question "why" though.
  8. Thanks, I'm not hugely hopeful this will work out in my favour. After seeing some of the estimates quoted by dealers in this thread, I'm going to have to look at other options to repair. I'm really not much of a mechanic, as in, not at all. Is this something that some amazon parts and a youtube video can walk a novice through? Honestly, if I could even get it repaired enough to get to a mechanic without having to flatbed it, would be great.
  9. TBH, I was not even aware of the recall until I shared my brake fail experience on a local subie FB page. All I am getting from Subaru is No VIN match = No recall. I am kind of relieved in a way - this was an unplanned trip to the local library with my 9 year old daughter. The next morning, we were scheduled to take the highway into the city. It could have been much worse. Edit - I've also contacted Transport Canada for advice.
  10. Glad to find this thread. I exported my Subaru new from USA to Canada in 2007. Couple weeks ago, my brake lines let go. I was lucky - in a slow residential street and was able to use parking brake. I was only in 1st gear. Whew. So I call my dealer, subaru canada, and subaru USA; they all tell my my 07 GT 5MT was not part of the recall "because it doesn't show up on the VIN" I'm wondering if mine slipped through the cracks: The USA ones were subject to recall if they were registered in certain salt belt states. My VIN was never registered in one of those. Now, here's where it gets kinda weird. On the phone again with Subaru Canada, and we are both typing in my VIN. My car shows up, and indicates I've had teh oil cooler recall done, and have the side airbag stiil outstanding. No mention of brake line recall. Except, 2 days after I call Subaru Canada, I type in my VIN, and now the web page is telling me it's an INVALID VIN, WTF? I copy+paste the VIN into SoA, and it still shows my car, so I know there's no typo in the VIN. Car is sitting in my driveway while I wait for a response to my letter asking 1: Can my car be included, and 2: If not, a technical explanation (other than my VIN) as to why the recall would not apply to my car. FYI - the brake recall is also in Canada ; Transport Canada Recall # 2013092 and # 2014223, roughly 130,000 vehicles.
  11. Decided on summer rims that would not break the piggy bank: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7850/46702839981_79dcf9e175_b.jpg But I'm contemplating re-paint in WRB after losing an argument with a concrete pillar in a parking garage.
  12. OMG. I cannot believe it took me nearly 12 years and this thread for me to realize my 07 has folding rear seats. Dealer showed me the arm rest pass through, and said the rears never folded, so I figured that was that.
  13. Like the earlier gen Outback Sedan... http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4083/34916861954_90f073c9a4_o.jpg
  14. I want to do the same, maybe 1.5-2" lift and another inch from a 2" taller tire. Look something like this, maybe with some Geolander tires and roof rack & basket http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4083/34916861954_90f073c9a4_o.jpg
  15. Wow! It's taken me 7 years to do 38k miles. At this rate it'll be 25+ years before I catch up to that kind of mileage. Thanks for the extra info on compression.
  16. CWW - thanks for explanation & the warning about not fixing this issue. My car may also displays a "stutter" in first gear at low / no throttle input. I thought it was just twitchy. It is annoying in stop & go traffic for sure.
  17. As someone who is both cheap and not mechanically gifted, I have to ask this question. As an alternative to replacing the gaskets, as my 07 LGT is showing the symptoms described in this awesome thread, can I just push in the clutch and give it more gas to stop from stalling? That's what I've been doing the past couple days, and other than looking like a knob at a red traffic light revving his engine, it's kept me from stalling out. It's only at a couple red lights, in that 10 minute window of engine temp from "blue light off & heater just comes on" to "some other point higher on the gauage that I forget to take note of"
