  1. I'm sorry, I mistook the purpose of the swap to mean functional, as in it provides an actual benefit to the performance of the brake system. In that case, yes, the swap absolutely firms the pedal and reduces the length of pedal travel. But it also completely negates all "feel," and I'm wondering if it's actually worse because of it.

I have brand new rotors and pads, both of which are better than stock. They meet the function of my budget and intended use. My point in commenting is to spread the word that this swap is not really an upgrade, that it isn't functional or superior in providing better stopping power, and that it is essentially just costly swag (though some of that cost is saved if you do the labor yourself; I don't have the space or the tools).

My comment serves to inform those, like me, who expected otherwise.

In the future, I'll upgrade to a racier pad to provide what I had originally intended to achieve.

maybe you could take the scientific approach and do a before and after test case between the stock booster+mc and the sti swap to confirm if your beliefs/expectations are true.

what you feel/think may contradict the hard tested data.

use same braking force (as best as you can gauge), and measure distance from same speeds to full stop.

    something like that.

as for me, im pleased w/ the results.

i also have a 'racier' brake setup, so the difference was staggering.

  2. What brakes are you running?....

Did you end up setting the rod to the same length as the stock booster?

I have Wilwoods up Front with porter field R4S pads like the franz has. stock LGT brakes with same pads out back and technifit lines etc.

I have my booster but been lazy to put it on as I heard its not real easy getting it out.

I do have a FMIC and no stock FPR to deal with so mine may be easier.

My pedal has always felt mushy so Im trying this soon. Just need to do it.

dba4000 slotted rotors, carbotech bobcat pads, stoptech lines, ate fluid. oem calipers.

track setup is centric blanks with carbotech xp10 up front, xp8 in the rear.

i dont have a place to work on stuff at my place, so i had a subie tech (i know the guy so i get a good deal on labor) do the install.

also, i am not all that interested in contorting my body to undo the screws under the brake pedal so ill gladly pay for that kind of labor.

the rod was initially kept as the same length as the legacy, but i ran into the dreaded lockup issue.

good thing i was already home by that time, but it could be bad if the brakes lockup on the highway.

waited til the morn til the pressure bled off, and then the sti rod was adjusted to be a little shorter than the legacy booster.

this step requires patience and some fiddling around because depending on the pedal travel length, it may not go far enough to activate the brake lights, which is obviously bad (unless youre running from them coppers ).

added in the gs brace, and now the brakes are now a-fn-mazing.

consider doing it. if youre doing it yourself, give yourself a good chunk of time to do it.

  3. So how is it after the swap vkchu? Much better?

after having driven it for about a week, and gotten used to the feel, id say that it is well worth doing.

i got the booster and cylinder for ~$70 on ebay - big bang for buck.

i dont know what it is like on just a stock brake setup as i have other mods, but as far as feel, pedal travel, and confidence is concerned, theyre all vastly improved over the stock setup.

the real test comes sat when i try them on with my track setup at summit point.

im expecting it to stop like an anchor has been tossed out.

  4. I'm trying to decide which springs to get, I was looking at this http://subiwiki.com/wiki/index.php/BL_%282005-2009%29#Handling_Modifications to try and narrow it down (I have almost brand new GR2 struts, and want to do a koni replacement later, but wear these GR2's out first)

I don't want to slam the car and have a decent ride. From my searching sounds like Epics would be best but they are all gone. The HTechs seem good since its a mild drop with decent spring rates, but I'm wondering about the Progress Sports. I can't find much info on them. Its a bigger drop, but the spring rates are very close to stock. Any opinions on them? Would the bigger drop be worse on the GR2's than the HTechs?

People seem to like the HTechs decent on stockers, but ej25 is the only one I've seen that likes the STechs lol. Thanks for input

    epics all gone?

    infamous perf still has em:

  5. On Taconic State Parkway around 9pm from Rt52 exit to Rt 55 exit tonight: 05-06 LGT, black wheels, lowered, HIDs w/ modded LED headlights, front lip, invidia exhaust, EFI logics plate cover...should I keep going?

I was in the grey 06 WRX wagon with MD plates.

that was not me, but you were able to see all that at night?

were ur eyes on the road?

  6. Coming back home from school tomorrow will be on turnpike with full tank if gas and new borla/stromung exhaust keep your ears open! And Heading to Subaru of englewood tomorrow afternoon hope to see any of you in the area!

I'm on the tpk a lot. wot w magnaflows is friggin awesome.

  7. Yes but do we know how much power the tranny can hold once in a gear? I always let off between shifts even now...i just dont want clutch slip as im doing a 3rd gear pull

i was under the impression that one should keep the throttle input the same/constant while going thru the shifts, and that letting off was the wrong thing to do.

ah these forums. so much (dis)information!
