  1. what is the rigged setup? and do you have the switch on Auto? auto didn't work well for me on my phone or a older mp3 player.

I use a headphone splitter and have a second device connected to the other line.

When connecting the satellite by itself, it doesn't work regardless of the auto or on setting.

  2. Maybe your satellite unit output is a "line out" instead of an "audio out"?

One of my older computers had both types of outputs and whenever I plugged my headphones into the wrong jack the volume would be super low.

I didn't think of that. The jack just says "audio." If it's running like a line out, what can I do to compensate?

  3. I've loved this great product and got one from the second batch ever made. However, I've always had one issue that maybe someone might have an idea to help.

When I plug in an iPod or smartphone directly, everything works great. When I plug my satellite radio directly, it doesn't want to play. I have a jury-rigged setup to get things to work, but it's not optimal, and I'd really rather it worked in a more straightforward manner (plug in directly and done!) So I was wondering if perhaps the signal sent from the satellite unit is weaker than that of an iPod? I can't otherwise fathom what's wrong. Ideas? :spin:

  4. I think to cover your bases, you need to ask guys to pre-order.

However, as far as our models being old farts... I think more people are willing to modify older cars rather than brand new ones. The market may still exist, even if orders slow down.

Good luck Sebastien. My board was from your second round of production, and it's been great!

  5. Had the CEL of a cylinder misfire then soon after the turbo blew at 69k miles. Had the turbo and block replaced under warranty and the CEL came back at 75k. Again, under warranty, they tore down the motor to "fix the problem". Thirty days later, I get the car back and at 79k the CEL came back under the same/ original cylinder misfire.

From there, me and the wife decided to go non turbo w/ Subarus.

Hmmm... That's a darn shame. We've had my wife's XT since it had 5k miles on the ticker (dealer driven). Ever since we bought it, I've always user Mobil 1 and changed the oil every 5,000 miles (I think twice I've changed at roughly 10,000 miles). My wife is a "spirited" driver, so the turbo gets a workout, but we've never had any issues. It's still pulling strong at ~92,000 miles.

Well, good luck with your new Subie. VT is a great place to own one!

  6. "auto" meaning that i would need to unplug the mp3/ipod to use the radio/cd changer?

No. When you stop the music from playing the board will kick back to radio functions in approximately 30 seconds.

  7. Red,

I have a '05 2.5i with a CD changer. I was looking on your website for the manual that your previous posts said you put up for the 2.5i but I can't find it. Can you point me in the right direction??

Has anyone with a 2.5i tried this out??

Do you have the auto or manual climate controls? If you have the manual controls, you're better off getting a new bezel and new aftermarket radio. Then the world is your oyster! If you have the auto climate controls, post the model number of your radio to be sure.

  8. I have been using Sebastien's aux-in board for several months now. It works like a charm! Initially I wanted to use a splitter so I could have both sat radio and ipod plugged in and just switch between them. That hasn't worked out because the splitter I am using is for headphones, so something isn't right. Also, I wanted to have the ipod plugged in and charging at the same time. However, using just one source at a time works great, and I've been listening mostly to sat radio lately anyway.

This is a great piece of tech! Nice work!

  9. The previous owners had tried for about 3 years to solve the torque bind problem... various mechanics had suggested and done various things, but the ATF hadn't been changed for almost 100K km (60K miles). I guess it never occurred to them that the ATF might be the problem, cuz they sold it to me thinking that it needed CV joints. After I checked the CV joints and found nothing apparently wrong I figured changing the ATF was worth a try, and it sure did make a huge difference. Hopefully the problem that you mention about the Duty-C solenoid won't be an issue, although it seems the car had been run for quite a while with the torque-bind problem and dirty ATF. Other than that, it seems the car was regularly serviced and repaired.

I just drained and refilled, adding Lubegard... and plan to do it again in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the confirmation that this is a common issue with the 4EAT transaxles.

This really isn't the appropriate thread for this discussion, but I will give you one last tip that I found on the other board concerning this. Put a fuse in the FWD fuse holder under the hood if you are experiencing torque bind. If the binding goes away, the duty-c is fine. If not, that's most likely the root of the problem.

  10. Thanks lekmedm, LongHiway and eVoMotion... I'll check out those links. I did the change of fluids today and the new ATF made a HUGE difference in how the car drives... no more binding on low speed turns, and the shifts are so much smoother. Feels like a different car.

    Cheers!

You were experiencing "Torque Bind", which the 4EAT transaxles are prone to. Old fluid will gum up the works and eventually fry the Duty-C solenoid that is responsible for shifting power between the front and rear axles. It sounds like you got to it before it caused any serious damage.

Did you just drain and fill, or have the whole transmission flushed? If you just drained it, then do it again 2 more times in the next month-or-so to have as much clean fluid in there as possible, and your OB will love you for it.

  11. I just picked up a 96 OB for use as a "winter beater"... although now that I've cleaned it up a bit it looks like new. It has 178K km (about 110K miles) and came with a complete service history. I'm going to change all the driveline fluids this week as it's been a while since the tranny (4EAT) and diffs were drained. I'm feeling a bit of binding/ jerking in low speed turns so I'm hoping the new fluids will smooth things out a bit.

My summer car is a Porsche Cayman, and this Subie is my first ever Japanese car (well, a US built Japanese car). I guess I'm building a collection of boxer-engined cars!

This forum has already been a useful source of info... looking forward to participating. And my user name refers to the car... being from Indiana and all... ;)

Congradulations on the OB. This forum is an awsome resource! However, it mostly deals with the latest body style of Legacies and OBs from '05 on up. If you're looking for help with your '96, go to http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/ which is another awesome site that helped me plenty of times when I had my '98 OBW. It's worth having a look.

    Best regards.
