  1. You'll need to go back in and check all your connections. It sucks, but that's what you'll need to do.

You said you're paranoid about electronics and need to seal

things up. I don't know if you're paranoid about getting

shocked, but 12 volts can't really hurt you, in fact I doubt you

could even feel it unless you touch it with your tongue or

something. So leave it un-"sealed up" until you know it's

working and save yourself some grief.

  2. Do yourself a HUGE favor and enjoy the standard unit. Most here would trade you.

Speaking of which (I don't THINK anyone has discussed this yet)

it is possible to simply get ahold of a manual HVAC unit from a

junker (or buy it) and swap it out with the auto one ?

This would also nicely finesse the problem of not being to put an

aftermarket stereo HU into the LGT (or 2.5i Limited), since there

are mounting options for standard DIN HU's with the manual

    controls.

  3. ^Good one!!!!

John, I meant to say I'm using a modulator now for the Sirius and want to use this instead but I-Pod at the same time but I'll just get a Y adapter.

    Thanks !

I suppose a Y-adpater, not a switch, might work if you only turn one

device on at a time. But maybe not - because the "on" device has

to drive the (hopefully) high impedance load of the aux-in, but also

is connected to the output of the "off" device, and its impedance

might not be so high, thus putting too much load on the "on" device.

Just a thought. But I doubt you'll damage anything by trying it.

  4. So, if I wanted to use both my I-Pod and Sirius Radio (using a wired FM Modulator) I would have to get a Y connector and connect both and turn whatever I'm not using off?

Why you use an FM modulator, wired or not, with the Sirius ?

Mine (a Stratus) has an audio output jack for 1/8" stereo phono

plug. Maybe you can find a simple 2->1 switch and connect

the iPod and Sirius both to it.

  5. or just get the JazzyMT board or one of the other solutions out there for us and that way you at least get aux in.

Perhaps another option (not necessarily cheaper if you buy a new one)

would be to get the stereo/HVAC for a newer car (whichever year

that aux-in and USB became standard) and drop that into your '05

or '06 ? Assuming it fits and is otherwise compatible ...

  6. John - $950 is the bezel/hvac mod: Our own mod. The JDM mod will be less (uses JDM controller as a base and modified by us). FYI - Japanparts is not moving on their price. Its $300 regardless.

Let me get this clear ... the $950 mod is the one you offer NOW, the "JDM mod" is

the one still under development (and intended to be substantially cheaper) ?

  7. As for price, they haven't said anything about it yet, but it will not likely be cheep. The part they are getting from Japan to do this normally runs ~$300, + r&d + fabrication. Unless Japanparts.com gives them a smashing deal on a lot of them, I wouldn't expect to see them for at least $400 or more.

I called, and was quoted $950. That's just too much. I guess I'll get

an old iPod (not into walking around with headphones anyhow) and

use FM modulator. I've heard good things about this one:

At least I won't have to burn and carry around a bunch of CDs (with MP3s

    burned onto them).

  8. Highline, I am completely new to this discussion, and am fairly

deeply confused, and a moron at heart. Could you (or someone)

please take the time to explain more clearly, minimizing the

    jargon and abbreviations ?

    Here's what I understand ... The 2006 2.5i Limited (that I'm soon

to buy) has the "automatic" climate controls, meaning there are

separate knobs to control temp for driver and passenger. If I pull

the "radio" out, it's actually climate controls and radio plus CD

changer all integrated into one massive cluster-f*ck of a unit. So

there's no way to put a standard DIN head unit in. (I gather this

is the same as the Legacy GT usually discussed here).

Hoping I'm clear so far ... Put simply, you modify the thing so that

I can put a single- or double-DIN radio of my choice in, and the

climate controls still work, and the thing looks great. How

exactly do you do this ?

What is all this talk about a "core" ? I thought the whole point was

to be able to put ANY DIN radio in ?!?

How is the whole procedure done, and what is the price ? I pull

out the whole stereo/HVAC unit and send it to you ? You simply

fab something and send it to me, and then send you the unit I pull

out of my car (perhaps this is the "core" being discussed) ?

Sorry to be dense. Might be worth putting up a FAQ for folks like me.

    Thanks.

  9.

So, evidently this only works with the "manual climate controls" ?

I am seriously considering the purchase of a 2006 2.5i Limited.

(I am only going back to 2006, because I want Limited stuff like

    moonroof, but I also want manual tranny, and I don't want turbo;

so that's what I gotta do - sigh ...) But being a Limited, it seems

to have climate controls for driver and passenger, where you just set

the temp you want; I assume this is what is meant by "automatic

    climate controls".

So, if I get this car, I'm just flat out of luck as far as replacing

the HU with an aftermarket one (notwithstanding the "cubby"

    route) ?

  10. Folks, been off this forum for some while, but I keep getting

emails about new posts. I still don't understand why you don't

just unplug the little chime box from under the dashboard ?

(I posted about this much earlier in the thread, but nobody

seemed to have much response). It takes about 10 sec.

Yes, I think it disables the other chimes too. But it seems to me

like if you're the kind of person who doesn't feel the need to have

a little chime remind you to buckle your seatbelt, you probably

don't need or want one reminding you to take your keys out of the

iginition and put 'em in your pocket.

  11. Guys, I posted this to another 'chime' thread, but no response ...

I simply unplugged a connector from a little box under the dash

called "Seatbelt Timer"; takes about 5 sec. Is there anything

wrong with this ? Of course, it disables ALL chimes, not just the

seatbelt one. (This is a MY97 Legacy OB).

Also, I asked a Subaru dealer, and he said it can be programmed

through the OBD in newer models (this was a year or two ago).
