  1. Today, I cleaned the flange part since rust was blocking the gap between the flange. It only had been a year since I went to hogzaust stage 2 and it was rusted like hell. Took several hours to take them out. Instead of rusted like hell nuts and bolts, I went to shop to buy couple of SS nuts and bolts and reaplaced them. Hopefully, it doesn't rust that bad for next few years in the salt road of Canada.

I have found something werid though. Even after cleaning the surfaces of flanges and instaled SS nuts and bolts, the left side of the exhuast with hogzaust stage 2 was sounding like washer vibratiing. I went to tighten it a bit but it didn't go away until I gave stage 3 a shot. I don't know what is wrong with my car:lol:. I think stage 3 is too loud but stage 2 for my car makes very noticeble high pitch and loud vibrating sound during idle so I have no choice.

Edit: BTW does the exhaust fume enter the cabin when the car is on idle? I am scared cause at Stage 3 almost 90 percent of air comes out from the space provided by the washers.

  2. I would like to scrub it too but the bolts are real tight and is impossible for my flex to unbolt them even with spraying stuff that makes the process easier.

This might be off topic but those anyone has a little uneven exhaust from the factory? My exhausts seem to hang in different height. Talked to the dealer

and their reponse is that there is nothing they can do because the exhaust was made like this in factory. While I was skeptical about that, as I see more

legacies on the road, I kinda believe them since many legacies I saw tend to have more or less uneveness.

  3. on quoting your *first line* remember, that during idle, the fumes are going to gently move through the gap anyway because theirs no pressure, the reason you get the leaking noise i believe you said(in some form) or in others cases the rumbling noise is because of the sounds being forced down a narrow way(exhaust tube) and the vibrations want to move out at first penetation so because of the vibrations (heavy vibrations)

the fumes are then forced to move out ( a little bit....not much) through the gap we've made(because of the pressure)....but remember physics laws....when pushing something thorugh a narrow opening the object(in this case gas) will take the easiest route.....imagine the gas being cars being forced down a major highway, then they have the choice to take either exits on either side or go straight......they're gonna want to escape the pressure early but doing so will cause a traffic jam.......

yea i took bio for a semester and physics played a big part in it for that semester..im still rusty though...and might be wrong( I don't thing I'm wrong though).......

and i just realized that I wrote a lot!....crap...sorry for those of you that hate long reading...hahaha

Your post is nowhere close being "long" reading . So what would you suggest me to do to make the exhaust note sound like what it's supposed to (deep and nice rumble)?

  4. well you have to remember that the exhaust fumes were at one pont a liquid, and so their is *some* density to the gas(thats why you cough)

so the exhaust fumes and the liquid that comes out will come out in specific points...for example in my video you can see the fumes come out (with the liquid) by the bottom om the exhaust flange...>

if you look at my video the liquid is spirting out by the bottom area(1 inch move) of the muffler where the camera is positioned(go to youtube and type in luftarzotit1, and you'll see what I mean....hope this helps)

I believe that , if not rusted or blocked, at idle the exhaust fume should be able to come out 360 degrees while some liquid form drops from the bottom.

Like when you first take of the gasket and throw in two washers, there is a open space through out the flange evenly. However, as time goes by this

space is blocked by mixture of rust and dust which might cause the sound of exhaust leak? I always wonder what factor differentiate the sound quality

between "hogzawst" and the "exhaust leak from other cars". They are both exhaust leak while one sounds much better than the others. Sadly, this factor

on my hogzawst stage 2 is now somewhat gone and its slowly turning into "exhaust leak from other cars".

  5. BMac - good advice. However, just one small thing to keep in mind: the OP is from Ontario, Canada. While the Magnusson-Moss act is great for the US, I'm not aware of a similar law in Canada. There could well be. But, in 25 years of living there, I didn't hear about it. Heard about M-M plenty. Would love to know if a similar law exists in Canada..

Yeah, I actually never heard of the similar law in Canada. Beside, as only some Canadians are aware of, now Ontario Police can go around the street and catch any fart can Vtec ricer if they want to and give them a fine from 2k to 10k along with suspension of driver's licence for one week. This is due to the new law that enables police to stop the "Street Racing". Basically, even though you weren't even stepping hard on the gas around the cop, if your car looks like its modded for "Street Racing", they can give you a fine and suspension of license which will be in record. Just by looking at this anti-streetracer movement going on up here, its less likely that dealer would not be an a'hole and void every kind of warranty possible from the 4 washers in the exahust.

    Another nice story

It looks like the abuse of this law already started.

Today in Belleville(Thurlow), Ontario a man in their early twenties popped a wheelie(consider to be illegal or "stunt riding") on their four wheeler in an empty field and fell off and hurt himself. The police showed up and charged rider under the new "street racing" law because the field had public access and did not have no trespassing signs(meaning private property, rider was not on own property). The rider had their four wheeler confiscated, license revoked and 2k for hurting themselves in an empty field!

  6. Ok. Thanks Bmac. I am not that worried about it anymore after the proving thingy. Not to hijack this thread but does anyone have or had problem with uneven stock mufflers (one side being lower than the others). I want to goto the dealer to fix this, but they might blame it on the washer like "when you are installing it, you bent it! you sucks!". In order to get the bent exuast fixed, I should probably get the washer out? Does anybody know mod friendly dealer in GTA?
  7. So, for safety I should put the gasket back before for the work? The other concern is when I have trouble on the drivetrain such blown turbo (which is a common thing), they might blame it on the washers on the exaust doing sth about the "pressure" blah blah if I goto to some a'hole dealers for emergency services. It really depends on the dealer, but I dont feel too safe doing this mod in terms of warranty. Just to clarify, all of my drivetrain and exaust system is bone stock.
  8. Just wondering but is it possible the dealer void the warranty? Especially on the Exaus or Drivetraint? Currently, my stock Exaust is uneven; one side is lower than the other. I am scared the dealer is going to blame that on me that when I was removing the gasket, exaust bent or some bullshit stuff (It was bent a long time ago maybe since it came out of factory). I found some interesting things from the SOA website (http://www.subaru.com/owners/warranty/index.jsp?year=2006) under Damage or Malfunction Due to Improper Repair or Unauthorized Parts section, it states that "warranties do not cover any part which malfunctions, fails or is damaged due to any unauthorized alteration or modification made to the car such as the removal of parts (This Hog-Zawst system) or the installation of parts, equipment or accessories or improper repairs or adjustments not approved or recommended by SOA." Since it is stated clearly, there is possiblilty that depending on the the dealer they are going to void warranty not only for the exuast but drivetrain also?
