  1. pro adapter kit not charging video ipod?

Apologies if this issue's come up (tried searching for it).

Just replaced my 4G ipod with a new video ipod. Old ipod worked great with jazzymt's ipod pro kit installed in Feb, with Belkin in-line connecter powered from the back of the lighter (05 outback xt ltd).

But the new video ipod (actually tried several) is not getting charged, apparently because it requires more watts?

    Ideas?

    Thanks,

    -K

  2. My first impression would be that it won't work - the overseas subaru radio looks nearly identical on the outside to ours, but is made by kenwood & the internals are totally different.

The only way to really know would be to take it apart & test it. Since starting this project, I've found 4 other Subaru radio's that are directly compatible with the same mod as our 3 Legacy/Outback radios:

    2004 Legacy/Outback P-128

    2004-06 Baja P-131

    2005-06 Impreza P-133

    2003-06 Forester P-130

Thanks, jazzymt. I'll pass it on.

Btw, have had it installed for a couple of weeks now and it's great!

  3. tbosubi,

what mount are you using on your vents? I think I like that idea of putting it in the cubby. I definetly dont need to be looking down all the time when I am driving.

    RipxLGT

It's a modified cell-phone thing from Radio Shack. The kind that includes a big unit to clamp the phone. But since my phone lives in a glove with a knob that slips into a belt clip, I ditched the big clamp and picked up a little sleeve with an adhesive back -- the kind you stick to your dash -- and stuck it on the platform to act as the receiver for the phone. (Note in the picture on the left, you see the platform -- with white lettering about how to insert & remove from the vent slats -- and the sort of keyhole-shaped receiver stuck onto the right side of it.)

When I put the iPod in, I discovered that the belt clip on the back of the glove my iPod lives in (a Marware model) fit the cell phone glove knob receiver thing perfectly.

It that's not clear as mud, there's at least one other similar set up I've spotted at GBXDirect:

Happy to try to make that explanation clearer if need be. :-)

  4. jazzymt & ZinFreak -

Somehow ploughing through the thread I'd gotten it into my head that the GLI was best located as far from the aux-in board as possible. Then, too, there's the notion that if any of those connections (coupler, GLI) need adjustment, they're right there. But I'll stick them behind the radio as you suggest. Taped 'n tidy.

On the power connections, then they're wrapped on the existing lighter -- er, posts? Just trying to picture what that 'splice' is like. (You can tell I have a lot of experience with this sort of thing..)

    Thanks,

    -K

  5. Just picked up an 05 OBW XT, our first, and cant wait to install. Thank you, jazzymt, and everyone who's contributed to this effort!

Some questions from a newbie who read the thread but maybe lost track of a few details:

    1. I probably prefer to keep the GLI and iPod in the dash cubby above the changer. I noticed a few mentioned this location. Has anyone had problems with heat in that spot?

    2. How long is the PAC iPod converter cable? Didnt see the spec on the PAC site.

    3. Is it possible to put the GLI, dual RCA coupler, and the PAC converter cable in that cubby and still reach a) 12VDC and b) a ground?

    4. Failing that and heading over to the armrest console, if tapping that 12VDC for the iPod, can one still get, say, cell phone power from there with the iPod attached?

    Thanks!
