  1. Sold my 2005 LGT Wagon three months ago at 170K miles. All stock, no major repairs.
  2. I just checked my 2005 LGT Wagon and the rear hatch light doesn't come on when you open the driver's door (the roof light only comes on). When you open the rear hatch, both the rear hatch light and the roof light come on.
  3. I think the rear wagon light only comes on when you open the real lift gate. but it's too late to test that now...
  4. If I understand correctly what you're asking, the answer is "no problem" in either case. I switch back and forth from manual mode to Drive mode without much of a thought.
  5. All I have to offer is that I've never heard those sounds in my 5eat.
  6. For the temperature control, not that I know of. It's automatic, period. The best we can do is tweek the temp controls to keep the car the temperature we want since it doesn't seem to hold a constant temperature inside. Very lame. But for the rest, if you change a setting it takes that control out of automatic. For example, if you set the fan blower speed, then that's the speed and it doesn't change unless you go back to fill automatic.
  7. Trust me that I know my own strengths and lack of same :-)
  8. Does anyone or any shop do this mod as a service? In particular, Northern California.
  9. True, they operate the same if the shifter is in S position. If the shifter is in D position and you use a button to shift, it will go back to D mode if you release the gas pedal then press it again (or something close to that).
  10. That's pretty much the range of temps here in the San Francisco Bay Area, with 100F being common as we drive East through the central valley in the summer. My point is that I've never even heard of a transmission cooler or anyone using or needing one here.
  11. Just happened onto this thread. 1726 2005 Legacy GT wagon AT Ltd. 162.....OBP.....2005 Legacy GT wagon AT Ltd (blk)
  12. I don't really know the answer to your question, but I don't notice anything in my 2005 LGT auto when braking normally (in Drive). It doesn't noticeably downshift while braking.
  13. Not on the hill down from my office :-)
  14. >Brake pads are cheaper than a transmission< That's of course a true statement, but it says nothing about whether using engine braking shortens the life of the transmission. I've seen or heard no evidence that it does. It's how I learned to drive a long time ago, I've done it with all my cars (which I've driven up to 280K miles), and have never had a transmission problem, auto or manual.
  15. To engine-brake down a steep hill. I do it a few times a week, usually at about 20 mph as one particular hill gets steeper. I get no "chunk" at all.
  16. Hear, hear! I do whatever I want with my 5EAT, especially downshifting for braking, no attempt at rev matching, with no problems at all. 135K+ miles.
  17. It doesn't attempt to heat the air but that doesn't mean that it's not heated anyway.
  18. I couldn't agree more. The HVAC is a very bad joke, made worse by Subaru seeming to either not care about or not notice the very bad reports about the system. Oh well, if that's all I can complain about, I guess that's pretty good. I still don't see a car/wagon I'd rather have.
  19. Is there anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area that does sound-deadening installation on our LGT cars for a reasonable price?
  20. Sorry I'm late to the party. That price is by far the worst I've heard and I see no excuse for it. Why do you think dealerships are called stealerships here? The 60K (and 120K) service on a 2005 LGT is about $650 at LIC Motorsports (Subaru specialists) in Novato, California, a high-labor-cost area.
