  1. Just got an update on my old '05 LGT; the guy who bought it 2 1/2 years ago texted me to let me know the engine was "shot". He says the valves "on one side" were finished and he thought it wasn't worth rebuilding the engine. The car now has 260K km (162K mi) and 15 hard Canadian winters on it and he claims the body is still rust-free and everything else still works well. A local enthusiast is buying it to rebuild so I may still see it on the road.

My 05 LGT has it's 3rd short block in it, had two cracked pistons when I bought it so the dealer had to fix that. The bank made me put some bs aftermarket warranty on it so before it went out I took it back to the dealer that sold it to me, rings were "bad" so I built it, finally added the last piece and the final tune and hit a deer so I'm looking for a silver hood! Not too bad but not something I'm gonna drive around like that. I haven't heard valves going, plenty of ringland and piston issues though.

  2. So I began tuning my ecu and cvt with Xtreme Racing Tuning. I can say that my experience so far has been pretty good. I have being working with Edward and must say he is pretty knowledgeable and very helpful with this process. So far I am on my first version of the tune and already can tell a significant difference in shifting. I cant wait for some more tunes as I continue to log and refine my car.

Do you have a sound clip? What are you using to log it?

Already made an appoint to tint the windows, but I'm loving the black mesh grill, Fog light mods, smoked taillights, and clear heads. Looking for ideas, photos and any help to get this thing looking a little more unique.

Most mods available are on that list. I did the grill and the axle back from nameless it didn’t say it was out of stock but took awhile to get. It’s loud for me and I chose the one with mufflers but not loud enough to change it back. I had all my chrome wrapped in satin black vinyl. I also bought the tail as turn from diode the only thing to keep in mind is that if you have your hazzards on the only brake light you’ll have is the one on the package tray.

That is why there’s a write up at the beginning all GTs and higher end models of the 05-09 had the digital climate controls. That unit is for the lesser models with the dials. I had an 05i and 09se that didn’t have the digital climate controls and I believe I even have one of those mounts in my collection of junk somewhere with my factory radio from my 05GT. The JDM unit is well worth it and isn’t hard to install with SVX’s adapter. Sometimes you can even find them a little cheaper from someone who’s moved on from their fourth gen legacy cause I don’t believe in the Imprezas or Foresters the climate controls were molded into the radios. I have always disliked Subaru’s infotainment unfortunately and I have two 15 3.6rs and when the factory radio ran like crap I had the dealer upgrade the firmware and now I have to take it back because it doesn’t talk to the car for monitors and lights and what not.

  5. Looking for a compatible headunit that works in all respects (steering wheel controls, aux jack in the armrest, factory sub in the rear etc). Does anyone know if the sony XAV-AX5000 would work? I assume the harness takes care of all the connections necessary but pretty newb to this and plus i have an outback and not a legacy. Looks like most people here are using kenwood or pioneer and not sure i thats for compatibility or just because they are better

Also not sure how the temp dials are mounted to the plate but are they swappable since we are lefty drives here?

It’s a molded unit I don’t believe they are swappable and it’s not really a big deal it just swaps the buttons not the actual temperature as previously mentioned. Crutchfield usually has the answers you’re looking for my 05 doesn’t have wheel controls.

  6. I still have my 05 LGT and honestly I don’t feel I’d buy another. Sure the 3.6r doesn’t have the pull that the turbo did but it’s not a turbo and it has the power without waiting for a turbo to spool. After having an 05 2.5i and going to the GT I don’t think I could go back to a 2.5i however. I felt the one I had was absolutely gutless and I’m not sure how the new ones aren’t just as gutless unless maybe geared differently but the power still isn’t even over 200hp/tq. I wouldn’t buy another GT because mine had around 140k and it’s back at the dealer for oil consumption. When I first bought it with 65k it had two cracked pistons and the dealer was forced to put a new short block in it for me. Here it is about 75k later and potentially looking at eaten rings at least if not another cracked piston.
  7. Car is still worth it. Don't let this scare you away.

It's not... I just wish I had come across this a month ago when I upgraded my head unit and put my old one in my 09 for the wife and in doing so added another Xm subscription. I would have held off till I knew what I was looking at. It's not 200$ to do it its 300+ and I didn't even pay that for the new deck with the Xm addon.

My 05 2.5i I traded has 150k and is losing oil. Dealer said they didn't find a leak and I didn't think it was smoking. They did say the front diff seals were leaking and it needs tires so it was time. If oil wasn't disappearing I wouldn't have considered trading it. I bought it with 21k. When I dropped it off for them to check it out the 05 GT limited they had caught my eye. Has 64k, 5-Speed and they gave me 3900$ for the 2.5i. It's already a done deal. I pick it up today.

I drive for my job. I have a company car pool but doesn't always mean one is available. My commute to works about 20-25 miles too. Just would have sit better if it were only the subs and amp collecting dust while I tried to figure out what to do not the Xm subscription, head unit and subs n amp.
