what's always worked for me was a cut up ping-pong ball wrapped in paper. Set it on fire then immediately extinguish - it will continue smoking for the next 10-30 seconds.

so I have everythign apart ....hub bolts are out but hub won't budge.....PB blasted the shit out of it. Hub bolts are back in and now trying tap it out but little hesitant ....not sure how much beating it can take before I mess up threads on those bolts ...not exactly best access to 2 of them so hitting with equal force is not easy either
I've done both of my rears. On one side I screwed the bolts in half way and hit them with a brass punch, one the other side I used the same punch directly on the hub from behind. You have to hit quite a few times, and you have to re-position the punch after a few hits.

This mirrors my experience exactly...
Personally, my rear still squeaks... I reused the old rear top hats, but the noise doesn't appear to be coming from that area. I tried putting wire loom all around the entire spring, but it was hard to do it without dismounting the entire assembly. I tried to squeeze it into the tighter coils, but it only helped marginally. It appears to me from bouncing the car and having my buddy listen to it (car was off) that the squeak comes from the lower spring seat, which is metal on metal contact with the spring itself. I bet if you sleeved that bottom part of the spring or oiled only that part the squeeak would disappear.
I sprayed WD40 onto the lower part of the spring by the perch (didn't remove the wheel, used a straw) to see if that helped, and it definitely did. Now the squeaking has returned again. I may take the wheel off this time around and properly grease it with some M1 synthetic stuff and see if it helps.

So, if I take the belt off, the driver's side cams are going to move slightly? I've read the vacation pix a few times, but I'm still not sure if it's ok to let them move, or not? And if they move on their own, I need to move them back only in the proper direction? Thanks!

hey phil, how are things? i haven't seen you lately, hope all is well...
All is well, I see your car often. I guess that means you're starting earlier... Hey, were you affected at all by the hospital closing?

spotted sunday in dowtown ramsey, commuter lot across from the Fuzz HQ, parked...DGM sedan
Just_Phil...Haven't seen you in a while, everything OK, I hope.
I'm here, still chugging along. I am on the same schedule/route, so I don't know why we haven't seen each other recently. Hey, have you seen the red GT sedan parked by the car wash? I see it there quite often.

I spot Just Phil regularly... but I try to post everytime I see sum1. I am in Elmwood Park now (and every friday) and work in Emerson.
...Scooby Doo where are you?
I see you and others often, though mostly 2.5i, but I don't feel like posting it here - that would be too many, plus I don't often see the details other than the color/body type. But, here's one.
On Monday (or was it Sunday?) I saw a white GT LTd wagon with custom grille and NY state plates in the Van Saun parking lot.

Are you sure it was me? A month or so ago I saw an identical wagon making left turn from Old Hook onto Main.
Ok, ok, it was me, I saw you too. http://legacygt.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif
this morning (about 8 am)I was behind (one car back from) a de-badged spec b, headed south on 17 from upper saddle river area to ridgewood (where I got off) and spotted just_phil this morning as well -
Spotted 2 LGT's today at the palisades mall inside the underground parking lot. White LGT wagon & black LGT sedan with smoked tail lights. Was that you coxx? Unfortunately I wasn't driving my LGT today to be spotted.

Fri RBP sedan outside my office...(if no one else is gonna spot me, than I spot myself - DAMMIT!)
Were you parked across from the Shoprite? If so, then I saw your car.

Spotted white LGT wagon this morning on Old Hook(er) Rd in Emerson. Aftermarket wheels...used to spot you on Main St and Kinderkamack by Boston Market @ traffic lite pretty much every morning in my '02 Silver LGT.

Thanks to this thread, I've finally built my DIY smoke tester, and this is what I found out. Does this look like a leaking inlet?
TIA
