  1. The rear bumper looks awesome! Did you end up taking the bumper support off or trimming it back? If so, is that a pretty involved process?

The JDM Legacy Wagon rear bumper is the shortest of them all. It is shorter than the JDM OUTBACK bumper, EDM, and AUDM models. I had to buy a EDM rear crash beam from a legacy wagon from their market and trim it down to fit the JDM wagon rear bumper. This is because the JDM Legacy models do not use a crash beam due to lower crash standards.

  2. Finally finally got the rear bumper installed and the exterior is now finished. Well except for a couple minor issues with the door moldings so I bought new ones.

  3. Wow... Should I dare ask how much for the struts?

Any updates as far as tuning goes?

The struts were $1875 shipped from Subaru of Japan. I got a pretty nice discount from the factory due to my relationship. The issue I have been having is the A/F Ratio sensor not sending a signal even after replacing it with a new one. So we went through the ECU and found a issue with it so ordered another one to replace it. Then the EGR valve was also troublesome so I had to replace it. I've also wanted to get a better turbo and something oem so I just ordered up a IHI VF53 ball bearing turbo from a JDM GRB STI SPEC C.

  4. What a nice progress on this INCREDIBLE build! :spin: Gotta love the Rev.D front on a white wagon. Something I wanted to do years ago on my white wagon... never happened.

Now, regarding the rear bumper beam. I thought the EDM/AUS wagon beam was the same as USDM sedan rear beam, though I may be wrong on that. However, I am certain that EDM wagon rear bumper cover is deeper than JDM one. I am sure of this, since I have a JDM rear cover, and looked at several EDM wagon in Europe.

EDIT: I just saw you found out about that yourself few posts up.

Yes you are correct. I should have consulted you before buying the EDM/AUS rear beam. There is definitely a difference in the JDM Outback Bumper and the JDM legacy Wagon one. The JDM outback is similar to the EDM/AUS so it can use the EDM rear beam or the USDM sedan one. But the JDM Legacy Wagon bumper cannot. So as I mentioned, I will cut the EDM beam and use it.

  5. Eventually another feature that is also apart of the JDM rear seat system will need to be addressed. The one-touch fold down switch. It is something I found useful in my 2015 FXT and was available back in 2003-2008 for the JDM models. The switch is there but the wiring and additional harness isn't. I've sourced it and will update once it arrives to see how it works.
  6. now after the reclining rails have been installed you must account for the ability to recline the seat when in the locked position. So, the JDM legacy has rear quarter panel trim with longer spacing in the fold down latch area to allow this to work.

Lastly since the reclining feature will obviously work while the tonneau cover is in place, you need the JDM one since it is designed to move with the seats.

  7. In this picture you can see the parts I got when I sourced the JDM recliner system but found that most were not needed.

A= JDM rear seat belt guide bracket - must use

B= JDM rear quarter panel lower mounting bracket - must use to mount JDM rear quater trim

C= JDM rear seat child anchors - not needed

D= JDM rear recliner guide rails - must use

when installing the guide rails I found that all the mounting holes are there except for one which is important, the rear position on the wheel well part of the chassis. The hole is there but you just cant tap into it. So I will get a stud and have my mechanic weld it into place.

In this photo you need to simply remove the cap holding down the rear SRS sensor harness and put in the lower recliner activating mechanism and then put the cap back on top of the thread.

  8. Now I mentioned earlier that the JDM BP Legacy Wagon got reclining rear seats and I ventured to figure out how to make them functional. First I sourced the rear seat system because I also wanted the nicer fabric and then I had to find the recliner system and components. Here is what I learned.

The recliner rail system consists of the JDM rear seat belt guide bracket which looks almost exactly like the USDM one but with a slight variation to accommodate the reclining mode.

  9. Well it seems that the EDM Legacy Wagon rear bumper crash beam will not work with the JDM Legacy Wagon bumper. The crash beam is still 1 inch too long. I will just cut the beam and weld it back together in order to make it functional. I compared the part numbers and noticed that the JDM and EDM rear wagon bumpers are not the same.

It seems the EDM model is a hybrid between the JDM and USDM model when it comes to the rear wagon bumper length. The JDM model is still about 1 inch shorter than the EDM and thus I cannot use the EDM rear crash beam. However it is a compromise between not having a crash beam and just using the JDM bumper skin only. It was said that the JDM outback bumper could use the USDM sedan crash beam and that makes sense given that the JDM outback rear bumper is also not the same length as the JDM legacy wagon rear bumper.

  10. When I started to pursue the JDM Legacy Wagon rear bumper, I knew that due to different crash standards in Japan, that JDM cars didn't have a rear crash beam. This bothered me as living in Los Angeles we have more accidents per capita than any place in the US. So after much research I found that the EDM Legacy Wagon/Sedan use the same spec rear bumper as the JDM one but with a rear crash beam! I don't know if it is exactly the same as I have a JDM rear bumper and a EDM crash beam but the only way to find out will be to test fit and see what happens.

I also discovered the USDM rear crash beam mounting brackets don't work either so I had to source the EDM Legacy Wagon rear beam mounts.

  12. During this process you always find little odds and ends broken, missing clips, pop its torn, and other misc stuff that just isn't mounted right. I'm very anal and OCD with that. Paying attention to detail is so important on these projects. It has to stand out and be as close to the factory spec as possible. Well that's just my process and philosophy. Probably why I became a filmmaker.
  13. Finally got my S402 Wagon Springs! Can't wait to get them installed with the 06 TBSTI Bilstein struts and test drive them.

  14. Hey there,

Currently I have on the 08 JDM Legacy Wagon Spec B Rev F Bilsteins with matching JDM REV F Spec B Wagon Springs. I am however using the S402/TBSTI rear bump stops + washers which I believe have made a huge improvement on the suspension travel. I have to say this set up currently is incredible on highways and surface streets with all the horrible conditions we have in Los Angeles. Our roads are really bad as we have poor budget allocated for repairs. Just in the 60 miles I put in to test it both highway 75+ speeds and surface at 35-50mph I was really impressed with now comfortable and firm the ride is. Mind you I have so many suspension improvements that are from the JDM cars. Pillowball rear lateral arms + the other cusco braces and such. I feel they all compliment the car really well.

The 06,07 Tuned By STI Sedan and Wagon use similar spring rates and I believe that is due to the revision they made from when they introduced the 06 Tuned by STI model and even from the 04-05 TBSTI that they introduced. The TBSTI springs are available to buy from Japanparts.com from the REV C model but the D-F are not listed for sale and are only special order direct through Subaru of Japan.

The 06 TBSTI Pink Springs were said to have 7.6K rates F/R from SOJ (Subaru of Japan). The 07 ones I don't know since I didn't ask nor did I have the part numbers to make an inquiry. The S402 Spring rates are also different based on the Bilstein Struts they operate on compared to the TBSTI model.

I purchased a set of S402 Springs which only come as a STI pink design and will be paring them with the 06 TBSTI Bilsteins and also use the S402 top hats to see the difference in ride and height compared to my current set up. I was told by SOJ that the valving of the TBSTI Bilsteins is only a very slight variation compared to the S402 Sedan/Wagon so I should have have a issue putting them together but there is a height difference I was told, which is fine for me as I don't want to go any lower.

The S402 Sedan is higher in ride height than the 06/07 TBSTI Sedan and the S402 Wagon also has a height difference compared to the 06/07 TBSTI Wagon.

Once I get the other set up installed and tested I'll put up my findings to that differences. Hope this answers your questions. Thank you for looking at my thread.
